DETAILED LESSON PLAN (DLP)

(With inclusion of the provisions of D.O. No. 8, s. 2015 and D.O. No. 42, s. 2016)

Week: 6 Learning Area: Grade Level: Quarter: Duration:

Day : 1-2 Earth and Life Science 11 2nd 2 hours
Explain how populations of organisms have Code:
changed and continue to change over time showing S11/12LT-IVfg-
1. LEARNING 26
COMPETENCY
patterns of descent with modification from common
ancestors to produce the organismal diversity
observed today.
Explain the major observation of the natural world by
Knowledge researchers that influenced Darwin and his theory of
natural selection.
Specific Learning
Examine the new theories proposed by researcher about
Objectives Skills
the evolution of the natural world.
Attitudes Display cooperation through group activities
Values Show respect to any organism especially humans.
2. CONTENT Population of Organisms have Change Over Time
3. LEARNING References SLM – Quarter 2 Module 6
RESOURCES Materials SLM – Quarter 2 Module 6
4. PROCEDURES
Write the word EVOLUTION on the board and let the students
to write any term or idea related to this word. Then connect their
answers to the definition of evolution.
Evolution is a key unifying principle in biology…
What are the indications that show evolution has taken place in the past
4.1 Introductory
Activity
and is still happening today?
The evidence for evolution is compelling and extensive that has
been gathered supporting the theory of evolution. According to Charles
Darwin on his book published in 1895, the Origin of Species, to
identifying patterns in nature that were consistent with evolution.

Work on by group in the “What’s New- Activity 1: Will Survive’ in

4.2 Activity
Module 6
Based from the activity, answer the following questions:
1. Describe what is happening in the figure A to C.
4.3 Analysis 2. Is the population of mice different in figure C than in figure B?
Explain why.
3. What characteristic of the mice shows adaptation?
4.4 Abstraction Discuss about evolution by natural selection
4.5 Application Work on What’s More-Activity 2: Let’s Fur
Activity 3: Synthesizing Your Learning
Answer the following questions based on your learning. Be brief and
concise.
1. Why does a characteristic of an animal help them to live longer that
tend to become more common in the population as a result of evolution
by natural selection?
4.6 Assessment 2. Wolves have genes that give them a very powerful sense of smell
much more powerful than humans, this is an adaptation by natural
selection. The wolves that reproduced more offspring with a better
sense of smell thereby increasing the frequency of those genes in the
population that survived longer. Give an example of adaptations in
other organisms that may have resulted from variations that were
favored by natural selection.
4.7 Assignment Activity 4: Exit Ticket
1. What does the theory of natural selection mean to you? Explain in 2
to 3 sentences only.
2. Provide one example of natural selection. The example could be
real or fictitious as long as it shows natural selection.
3. Why it is important to understand this concept of natural selection
for the benefit of understanding other ideas in science/biology?
“The theory of evolution is quite rightly called the greatest unifying
theory in biology.” “Evolution is amazingly versatile in adapting the
4.8 Concluding
materials at hand to other uses.” “Believing as I do in evolution, I
Activity
merely believe that it is the method by which God created, and is still
creating, life on earth.”
Indicate below special cases including but not limited to continuation of lesson plan to the
following day in case of re-teaching or lack of time, transfer of lesson to the following day, in
5. REMARKS cases of classes suspension, etc.

Reflect on your teaching and assess yourself as a teacher. Think about your student’s progress
this week. What works? What else needs to be done to help the students learn? Identify what
6. REFLECTIONS help your instructional supervisors can provide for you so when you meet them, you can ask
them relevant questions. Indicate below whichever is/are appropriate.
A. No. of learners who
earned 80% in the
evaluation.
B. No. of learners who
require additional activities
for remediation.
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners who
have caught up with the
lesson.
D. No. learners who
continue to require
remediation.
E. Which of my learning
strategies worked well?
Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I
encounter which my
principal or supervisor can
help me solve?
G. What innovation or
localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish
to share with other
teachers?
