Make an art criticism of an editorial cartoon clipping found in newspapers. Make sure that you follow
the steps laid out by Rosalind Ragans.

1. Describe
I see in the artwork a child who is confused of what is really going to happen and what he
should obey. The image is about timely issues of society. Not sure when it was really published
but I am sure that is a fresh publication since the info wanted to be delivered is timely.
Technically the work was created through a piece of paper and a drawing utensils. The location
cannot be determined since it's not indicated. Based on how I can describe the artwork, it is
intended for a group of persons specifically the student as well as to all the people who go to
school back then when there was no COVID-19.
2. Analysis
The artwork is a drawing based on its appearance and it is a two - dimensional media. It has
width and height and uses an element of line which is the most important element in two -
dimensional artwork. It uses shading techniques such as blending and stippling.The source and
kind of subject is People and World Events since Covid - 19 and the temporary suspension of
face to face classes is connected with each other and it impacts globally. It has intended
emotional and intellectual messages. Probably, the author or the artist of this artwork is a
person who has experienced. He or she may be a student or a teacher or anyone who was able
to hear or observe such problems in the society.
3. Interpretation
The message of the art is about the inconsistent decision making of the government and IATF
regarding face to face classes. Some say that face to face classes can now be restored while
others still claim cannot be. And many say limited face to face which is I considered the most
idiot decision they ever had. The message is important because it does not just affect the
psychological behavior of students as well as it affects their health issues. In this kind of time,
learners face a lot of difficult challenges while dealing with online classes. Implementing sudden
changes in their environment while not yet fully adapting the prevailing system is a big factor
that affects them negatively. The mood of the artist is dismayed and confused as well as
disgusted since I can see in the image the deep sorrow in the artwork. It is possible that the
artist also suffers with this issue.
4. Judgement
The artwork is a success since the message it conveys is clear and precise. Not much design but
it is equivalent to ten times of a colorful artwork but has a vague message. The work is
significant to the message it seeks to convey because the artist uses simple yet appropriate
illustration. It serves an aesthetic and utilitarian purpose. The artwork is really effective in
communicating its meaning because one is able to determine the main point of the artwork in
just one look.
