0 Introduction
0.1 General information about this document
• This Trouble Shooting Guide (TSG) is for maintenance personnel, who are trained in
the general handling of the locomotive, traction equipment and locomotive control
equipment.
• The trouble shooting personnel should already be familiar with the specific safety
measures required on these locomotives due to the presence of the various high-
voltage capacitors. For a detailed description the personnel has to refer to the safety
precautions for the locomotive it is working on!
• This trouble shooting guide provides information about the diagnostic messages
(fault codes) in the Central Control Units diagnostic memory.
In order to understand the TSG, the user must be familiar with the documents listed below
in section 0.2.
Section 1 contains an overview, how to read the trouble shooting guide.

In addition to each individual diagnostic code in section 3, there is also a description of the possible
causes and corrective measures.

0.3 Safety instructions and notes

All safety instructions in the maintenance manuals of the relevant components must be observed
when performing tasks described in this document, safety precautions are not explicitly stated in this
document.
As general, at least the following five safety regulations have to be considered:

- Disconnect mains!
- Prevent reconnection!
- Test for absence of harmful voltages!
- Ground and short circuits!
- Cover or close of nearby live parts!
When performing troubleshooting on the vehicle, the relevant sections of the running maintenance
manual for the affected component/system and especially their Safety Summary must be
observed.
Also following must be considered:

- Even if a converter container has been switched off for a prolonged period of time, residual

charge can pose enough of a danger to cause serious personal injury.
- Personnel will be exposed to the same risks when working on the traction components
connected to the converter container and their supply lines (e.g. pantograph, main circuit
breaker, and all connecting lines).
- It can take more than one hour for the capacitors to discharge. Therefore, even after a long
wait time has elapsed, personnel have to make sure that the capacitors are actually
discharged and de-energized.
- Capacitors which are not short-circuited appropriately will continue to absorb power even
when disconnected. Accordingly, when capacitors are replaced, their connectors must be
short-circuited appropriately (and this shorting must, of course, be reversed once the new
capacitors have been installed and connected).
- If the converter container has to be opened for the purpose of accessing the TCU, the
same safety regulations shall apply as when working on the converter.
- When wiring interfaces to external destinations “on the fly”, extreme caution must always be
taken when laying cables so that there is always sufficient safety clearance between them
and live parts.
- Connectors must be attached as appropriate for their design (snapped or screwed into
place).
- Personnel are required to comply with all safety information in this document, as well as
that appearing on devices and vehicles.
- Only manufacturer’s original spare parts or parts recommended by the manufacturer are to
be used.
- All maintenance operations or repairs must comply with the necessary maintenance
intervals and repair and replacement guidelines.
DANGER
Only tools and auxiliaries to be used that are approved for carrying out work on and in the con-
verter container. This requirement applies to all cables temporarily or permanently connected to
the DSP. Connecting cables between the DSP and the PC or measuring devices must meet
specific requirements; therefore, only tools approved by Siemens may be used.
Noncompliance with warning notices and failure to take safety precautions can lead to fatal injuries
and serious material damage.

1 How to use the trouble shooting guide
This document assumes, that service personnel has retrieved the necessary information from the
CCU diagnostic memory and is analyzing it either:
• offline via Sibas Diagnosis Viewer or
• online via SIBAS-Monitor
The list of all possible CCU diagnostic codes can be found in section 3.2. Typical reactions of the
control system, which are repeatedly used, are defined in section 2.3.1.
Further information about the desired behavior and the functionalities of each system can be found
in:
- Related System Architecture Specifications [SyArs] of each system included in the
technical documentation
- Technical documentation, WAG9 Schematic [WAG9_Schem].
Strategy:
If more than one Diagnostic message is triggered, start working on the messages that are related
to faults or the status of:
- Circuit Breakers
- Contactors / Relays
- I/O-Stations
Solving these diagnostic messages could lead to dissolve further messages.

1.2 Using Circuit diagrams
The circuit diagrams are included in the technical documentation, section “WAG9 Schematic
[WAG9_Schem]”. Each electrical device on the loco and also each electrical Input/output of any
Lütze I/O module can be found in that circuit diagrams.
To find an electrical device its “Device Designation” has to be used. Device Designations are used
within the schematics in section 3 of this TSG.
A Device Designation is based on the standard 6k nomenclature and not on the SIEMENS
standards. Few examples have been stated below:
CCU1: 127.1/1
Auxiliary Compressor: 48.1
Battery: 111
This Device Designations can be used with the normal Search function of a PDF viewer software.

To find a specific electrical Input or Output signal on a Lütze module, it is also possible to use the
search function of the PDF viewer software. Refer WAG9 IO assignment [IO_assign] for the IO

Status of each Lütze contact can be checked easily via Service screen TOD.
In menu “Service” / “I/O signals” all inputs and outputs are listed.

Also, each Lütze contact can be checked via Sibas Monitor. Therefore, Sibas Monitor has to be
started and connected to CCU. Then the command “Applic. Connect.” has to be used.
Examples:
To check binary input E111_00 Applic. -> Connect. -> EXT11_20.O00
To check binary output A116_00: Applic. -> Connect. -> PACKA116.I00
To check analogue input EA213_00: Applic. -> Connect. -> E213_00.OUT
To check analogue output AA217_00: Applic. -> Connect -> SA217_00.IN
1.4 How to check, if a diagnostic message is still triggered

Checking if a diagnostic message is still active can be done online, without again reading out
Expert2-files.
Possibility 1, via Sibas Monitor:

Therefore, Sibas Monitor has to be started and connected to CCU.
Via menu “Events” / “Statistics_D”, the list of triggered Diagnostic messages can be displayed.
Each code that was active when the list was called is marked with an asterisk “*”.

The four IO stations provide digital and analogue inputs and outputs for the CCUs. In each VCU
box there are two IO stations installed (see Figure 8). Communication between IOs and CCUs is
realized via MVB.

2.3 Definitions
Cab activated:
The reverser in the active cab is in position Neutral, Forward or Reverse and no other cab in the train
was already activated.
2.3.1 Typical reactions of the control unit (CCU/TCU)
“Monitor-only” operation mode:

A mode of the SIBAS CPU units (mounting position C019 in CCU/TCU) in which the cyclical
processing of the application software is stopped. The control unit is brought to a safe state, all
outputs controlled by this control unit are opened. Only software functions for communication with
the Service-PC are still active.
That operation mode is visualized by a blank 7-segment-display on the CPU unit. Also, the red LED
directly below the 7-segment-display is not illuminated.
Once the reason is cleared the control unit can be put back into “Normal” operation mode via the
Service-PC or a hardware reset (battery off/on or reset button on SIBAS front panel).

The error word shows, which issues have led to the diagnostic entry.

- Are all L_Bus cables plugged correctly? Repress the plugs of the L_Bus cables accurately.
The plugs do lock in place late.
- Is there a damage on the L_Bus cable? The shielding should not be damaged in any way.
- Is the wiring of the I/O modules correct (inputs, outputs, power supply)?
- Is the shielding of the MVB-cable, shielding of other cables and the grounding carried out
correctly?
