Calculates the water quality index and the Physico-chemical quality

assessment of the groundwater of Khanguet sidi Nadji (S-E Algerian)

F. BOUKHENISSA1, T. DRIAS 2,

The need for water is increasing in arid regions, for this reason by carrying out this study
determined the hydrochemical characteristics and water quality belonging to the aquifer of
the region of khanguet Sidi Nadji, located in the south-east of Algeria. The climate of the
region is arid: rainfall of 132 mm/year and very high temperatures during the summer. At
least March 2020, 14 samples were taken the main elements are dominated by chlorides
and calcium sulfate Mineralization of water can have two causes: dolomitization and
dissolution of gypsum; Base ion exchange between water and the solid aquifer framework
Principal component analysis (PCA) shows rich participation of several mineralization
elements, mainly calcium. The Water Quality Index (IQE) is a water quality classification
technique that is based on the comparison of water quality parameters with international or
national standards within the framework of this study. The mineralization of the waters is
relatively high with an electrical conductivity that varies between (1725 to 3920μS/cm). The
EQI summarizes water quality data in simple terms (Excellent, Good, Bad, Very Bad, etc.)
According to the quality index (IQE), 7.14%(F10) of groundwater samples belong to the good
category, and 71% (F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F8, F9, F11, F12, F13) bad category and 21.43% (F1, F7,
F14) very bad category
