ASSIGNMENTS

AEJ 304 – Site Planning and Landscape


2022-23
Use A2 size sheets for all assignments. Composition and presentation of sheets carry marks.

Assignment 1: Site selection (5)

Choose any buildable vacant site in your neighbourhood. Get the google map of the site to an
appropriate scale. Check on the relevant master plan to identify the assigned land use.
Support with appropriate documentation. Identify and justify any suitable project on the site.

Assignment 2: Site Inventory (15)

Collect all relevant data of the chosen site with its surrounds from reliable primary and
secondary sources. The data is collected on all identified relevant parameters from the
checklists covering the following:

● natural features - orientation, wind directions, vegetation


● manmade structures such as built structures, utilities, and
● sensory attributes, including views and noise on an appropriate site plan.
● Climate
Maps, data from websites, satellite images, video and audio clips and photographs and simple
recording will together constitute the inventory.

Assignment 3: Site Analysis (15)

The inventory is presented as graphic sheets combining various parameters for clear and
comprehensive presentation of information to bring out existing site conditions, constraints
and potential. Site Analysis sheets Include Sketches, pictures and free annotations to support
the analysis.

Assignment 4: Landscape Graphics: Draw freehand using any media various landscape
elements as listed below. Present at least 3 sheets on this topic (15)

● Various types of trees, plants, shrubs, ground cover


● Landform - slopes. Embankments, mounds, cliffs, rocks
● Water features – streams, ponds, fountains
● Paving – cobbled, flagstone, brick
● Roads and sidewalks
● Built structures – fences, seating, signage, poles, waste bins, etc
● Automobiles
● People

Assignment 4: Case study

Undertake case study of any 3 well designed site plans from any source and make 3 good
presentation drawings on A2 sheets detailing. (15)

● roads, round-abouts, drop-off, parking, pathways, plazas,


● vegetated areas, lawns, flower beds, shrubs, trees,
● seating, lighting, waste bins, signage boards
● any other details
Discuss your findings and lessons learnt on site planning and landscape

Assignment 5: Site Planning (30)

The Site Planning assignment is to plan on your chosen site and prepare a detailed site plan
and at least 2 sections to an appropriate scale including

A. Block Layout with blocks orientation and placement, open spaces, gardens/lawns, future
expansion areas
B. Circulation entry areas, driveways, drop offs, parking lots, service roads, pedestrian paths,
plazas
C. Planting showing verities of plant material, their locations as well as common name,
botanical name and size of trunk and canopy described.
All plans to be presented aesthetically using landscape graphics on well-composed sheets.
