new furniture designer

PHOTOGRAPHS COURTESY OF CHIPPENDALE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF FURNITURE

T his unusual table design is the work of Ronnie Payne, a former

RAF technician and police officer who is now a furniture
designer-maker. The ‘Revv-it’ table was the centrepiece of Ronnie’s
graduation portfolio from the Chippendale International School
of Furniture in East Lothian.

Combining interests
Ronnie inherited his passion for woodwork from his father who
was a joiner and, after leaving Police Scotland, he enrolled at the
Chippendale school, Scotland’s only furniture design school. He
graduated from the School in June, 2016. Ronnie’s love of motorbikes
dates back to his teens, and he now drives a Harley Davidson Softail
Deluxe, and is also an enthusiastic member of the Harley Owners
Group. So for his graduation from the School, Ronnie decided to
combine these interests. He wanted to make something quirky and
unique, which was also sturdy and absolutely functional. The Revv-It
table, complete with wooden saddle, petrol tank and handlebars, shows
how innovative design and craftsmanship can add something unique
to a home – and a piece of furniture that will also become an heirloom.
Ronnie has now set up his own business, Ripplewood Furniture,
in Falkirk. His aim is to create functional and bespoke furniture, as
well as hand-crafted kitchens and other woodwork projects. “I have
always loved wood ever since my father taught me how to use tools
as a child,” said Ronnie. “I have now been able to realise my dream
and make wonderful creations from locally sourced wood here in
the central belt of Scotland.” Ronnie riding the ‘Revv-it’ table

18V cordless screwdrivers

Bosch has recently launched a new generation of cordless screwdrivers
aimed at professional carpenters. The range consists of the ‘dynamicseries’
and the ‘robustseries’. The ‘dynamic’ tools combine compact design with high
performance while the ‘robust’ screwdrivers are particularly durable models.
The screwdrivers feature unique precision coupling for reduced wear and tear,
an LED display alert when the tool switches off due to over-heating or blockage
and full control for screwing and drilling applications with the ‘KickBack Control’.
These are the first Bosch cordless screwdrivers or combi drills of this class to
have brushless motor technology, which helps to increase their service life.
