2. The assignment has to be submitted in a neat word-processed format with related figures where ever necessary to ARO in the specified format.

3. The report should not exceed 35 pages on A4 sheet.

4. Date of submission 02.07.2011. Late submission will attract penalty as per school norms.

5. The module requires extensive usage of literature survey, search tools and industry relevant examples 6. Assignment will be evaluated on the basis of a. Coherence of thought and writing/presentation skills b. Efforts taken to handle the assignment 7. Weightage is based on comprehension of the question, style of presentation, originality, logical thinking and justification of the relevance to question in an industrial scenario. 8. You can discuss the assignment in a group but the report should reflect individuals effort. 9. Students are required to discuss with module leader regarding selection of product/ industry to avoid repetition. 10. Plagiarism by students is considered as academic dishonesty or academic fraud. Students are advised to strictly avoid plagiarism. 11. References, wherever required must be acknowledged. 12. The learning outcomes reflected in the assignment and your observations on the possible gains after undergoing this module should be precisely written in a single page and 10 marks are allotted for this topic.

Introduction:
Product design management module is intended to prepare students to arrive and apply strategies to resolve complex product design management issues in business environment. This assignment is designed to test the depth of students understanding on concepts of product design management and facilitate them to apply the design concepts into practice in real industry situation. Part A focuses on debate/discussion on product design management, Part B focuses on industrial application descriptive type questions and Part C focuses on product design management interpretation and prediction of situations at workplace

Part A 30 marks Preamble:


Design of any product comes from two ways. One is through design up gradation and another is through satisfying customers requirements. The challenge is to improve the design in an innovative way. On the other hand, it is quite challenging to satisfy customers owing to reasons like competition in the market place.

Problem Statement:
Identification of customer need and satisfaction is more challenging than product up gradation in order to keep up with the competition Critically Debate the above statement. Your answer should not exceed 3 pages

Part B

40 marks

1. Select a company / product of your choice in consultation with module leader and identify the possible ways of new product development to suit present scenario. (15 marks) 2. Discuss the need and relevance of Product Life cycle Management. Justify your argument based on Indian business scenario. (15 marks)

3. Identify articles / research papers with reference to design management, in order to discover the current
academic and practitioners thinking and focus on new developments in design management practices; put forward your understanding and comments on the article by comparing the commonalties and difference in design management practices (10 marks)

Part C

20 marks

Carry out research using books / other resources to gather details of a company* situation with reference to management and statistical process control tools and techniques used for problem solving and efficient decision making in real world scenario post 2008. * Segment/Company shall be chosen in consultation with the module leader.
