What is ATTP?
oThe Alliance of Technology
Transfer Professionals
(ATTP) is an alliance of
fifteen knowledge and
technology transfer
associations.
oEstablished in 2011 by 5
associations, now with 15
and over 700 RTTPs plus
over 100 joining the
recently introduced
Candidate RTTP
programme worldwide
Why does RTTP exist?

Created in response to membership data that showed the need for


recognition and career progression. This was particularly the case for
newer members of the profession.

It tells employers, colleagues and others in our industry that you have
demonstrated the Core Competencies and are responsible for
significant achievements and contributions in the field of
technology/knowledge transfer
RTTP co-ordination :
o Program Manager via the ATTP website manages process of
applications for RTTP or Candidate RTTP status.
o A Peer Review Committee drawn from representatives of the member
associations, reviews applications, provides feedback and guidance and
makes decisions on the granting of RTTP status.
oBroad spectrum of functions and roles are engaged in KT/TT so many
people are eligible to consider this recognition.
ATTP Key o Only other process in EU was EUKTS project and ATTP has agreed to
Functions grant RTTP recognition to holders of EUKTS status.
Course Review Committee :allocates CE (continuing education) points to
relevant training courses
o Member associations submit any of their courses to the CRC (via the
Program Manager), asking for confirmation that quality and content
merit CE points.
o Non-member organisations (such as the EPO) are also entitled to apply
for CE points
o RTTP candidates can gather CE points from any combination of training
course, form a mixed group of training providers.
RTTP signals personal and professional credibility, and tells employers,
colleagues and business partners worldwide that:
oYou are an experienced, skilled professional with a proven record of
achievement
o You work effectively and creatively to add significant value and deliver
outcomes
oYou have demonstrated competence, integrity, vision, versatility and

RTTP Status o You have undertaken relevant training courses and/or gained
qualifications that enable you to perform well, and that have helped you
to build a rich network

Candidate RTTP allows entrants to the profession to signal that they are:
o Committed to a pathway of training and development and are working
towards earning RTTP.
oSerious about their career and aspire to meet the highest standards.

Entrepreneurial Leadership- Leadership in Building Collaboration and Partnerships and changing


organizations through innovation.

Legal Scientific and Technical Knowhow- Understanding and Managing the legal, contractual and
domain issues required to effectively exchange and transfer knowledge.

Effective Engagement- Marketing, Promotion, Brokering, Communication, Persuasion, and


Influencing Required to bring partners together.

Governance and Project Management- administration of systems and process to support the
effective transfer or exchange of knowledge.

Knowledge Transformation and Management- administration of systems and processes to support


the effective transfer or exchange of knowledge.

o Submit a CV detailing your role in KE/TT for three or more years
o Proof of current employment

Training Pathway:
o 60 RTTP CE points, provide certificates of courses completed.
Or Mixed Pathway:
Provide at least two of the following
Required o A list of professional qualifications or relevant courses

Documents o A list of ‘deals or projects’


o A description of leadership roles in KE/TT

3. Achievement Overview
Submit a 1,000 word Achievement Overview, endorsed by your manager.
To be submitted for review by ATTP. This should describe:
o A Complex and significant collaboration/ strategic partnership or
o A complex and significant commercial deal or
o A significant knowledge transfer initiative or
o Demonstrated leadership

Procedural:
◦ Missing documents; Particularly in the mixed pathway where you need to
chose 2 out of 3 options (not just 1)
◦ Wrong pathway
◦ Application does not include certificates for CE points/Confirmation of CE
points from Association.
◦ Documents need to be in English (or otherwise discussed with the ATTP
Programme Manager)

Typical problems Insufficient Achievement Overview:


◦ The applicant’s role in the case was unclear – Not written in first person and
with Submissions unclear what they were specifically responsible for and which parts of the
activity they had led.  What was your impact on the case outcome?
◦ The account does not reflect the complexity of the case – it is listed as a
series of events that follow each other almost mechanistically with no sense
of the initiating, proactive and leading role that the applicant played in
resolving complex issues that arose along the way leading to outcomes that
had demonstrable impact/investment.  Quantify the information, specify
the challenges and how YOU overcame them

Evaluating the relevance for you….
Gathering feedback from the different associations and the successful candidates
helps the ATTP community evolve, responding to the needs of the community.
