Providing Care and Comfort at the End of Life

The video talks about the end of life (hospice care) in Hong Kong. Three older people,

which are Chu Lai Kwan and Mrs. Fung Wu Mui Yung, tell their true feelings after their

illness and express their expectations for hospice care projects.

Connie Chu and Dr. Edward Leung talked about their views on hospice care, “What the

dying patients need, and the current situation,” and they were also concerned about what will

improve the question.

Connie Chu said that most people do not know about ACP (advance care planning), let

alone use it. At the same time, hospice care should help patients live as well as possible until

they die and die with dignity. For example, suppose some patients give up cardiopulmonary

rehabilitation. In that case, the nursing staff should ask about the patient's wishes and

preferences and take them into account when working with the patient to formulate a nursing

plan. You should also support your family, caregivers, or other people who are important to

you.
Dr. Edward demonstrated the ambulance service and lack of the capacity of the

residential care home; that’s the question that needs to improve. Increase residential care

homes to look after people and make sure the ambulance men would obverse are not going to

any resuscitation even in the hospital if they have signed the DNACPR order.
Then there is a brief interview with Wu Mui Yung; Mr. Wu said that although the old

man did not want to go to the hospital, he had no choice but to go to work without being

looked after at home, so he had to put them in the hospital, tied his hands and feet on the bed.

In fact, this shows the importance of hospice care. It will not be hard to sign the DANCPR

agreement, nor will the patients.

Finally, there was a home visit to Grandma Chu. Grandpa chu gave up treatment because

of the shortage of beds and had to treat at home. Grandpa Chu said she wanted to stay in the

hospital but had no choice. Although she was comfortable at home, the medical conditions at

home were not as good as in the hospital.
