Dear friends,
let me introduce myself,

My name is Kseniya and for past three years crocheting is my hobby. I'm
absolutely obsessed with crocheting Amigurumi toys and photographing my
toys in the best way to preset my creations. Perhaps, the idea to combine
these two kinds of expressing myself is the true reason why I'm so
obsessed with amigurumi and that is why we are both here to crochet the
little Santa's helper - Christmas elf.

Only in this year I've decided to start preparing for Christmas along before
the Holliday crocheting some one new. I've created my own Christmas elf.
It's a really big deal for me.

Someone says crafters create something that looks like they do. Something
that inspired with his own vision and soul. And here we are - two cute
smiling buddies. What can be more symbolic, right?
Now I would like you to
share the experience with
me in creating something
new and cute! It's time to
create your own Christmas
elf with his bag of the toys,
he will bring only good
vibes and memories.

5
Factors to Consider When
Determining Yarn Amounts
1. The first and the most obvious factor is a  crochet hook size. If you will use the
yarn mentioned in the materials list and a crochet hook size other than
recommended one, it would affect the yarn amount necessary for your project. If
you choose a larger crochet hook, then you will need much yarn and if you go for a
smaller crochet hook - then you will need less yarn than it is specified in the
materials list.

2. The second factor – your typical tension when crocheting. The gauge and
tension is going to make a difference with the amount of yarn used because it
allows for more or less space between stitches. The tighter your stitches, the less
yarn you need.

3. The third and very important condition – your stitches shape: V-shape, X-
shape/semi-X. The stitch shape depends on what crochet technique you use – yarn
over or yarn under.

If you wrap the thread, placing the hook underneath the yarn strand (circular
movement of the hook from the right to the left) – this makes V-shaped stitch, if
you put the hook over the yarn strand (circular movement from the right to the left)
– this makes X-shaped stitches, and if you make yarn under then yarn over, this
technique gives us semi-X stitches. You will need much more yarn for the fabric
made in Yarn Over technique compared with the amount needed for Yarn Under
technique.

Why did I specify the yarn density in the materials list? If you don’t have the same
brand that I recommended, You should use the yarn weight as substitution with
any risk of miscalculation for the toy and clothes sizes.

InstructionS
st = stitch BLO  = crochet into back loops
MR = magic ring only
ch/tch = chain/turning chain FLO  = crochet into front loops
sl st = slip stitch only
sc = single crochet k = knit / p = purl
hdc = half double crochet yo = yarn over
dc = double crochet e st = edge stitch
tr = treble crochet CL = cluster stitch (4 hdc joined
dec = decrease at the top)
inc = increase

The number in brackets at the end of every round means a total number of
stitches in the round,
(…) * n – means that you should repeat the combination of stitches n times.

In this pattern we use US terminology.

Choose the correct hook size which is appropriate for the yarn you are going to
use. Your choice can be different from mine, but please pay attention to the fact,
that the size of the toy and the clothes will be different when you use other yarn
and other hook size.

Use a stitch marker for your convenience and rounds counting.

The elf is crocheted in semi-X stitches. Shift stitches are calculated precisely for
this technique. If You crochet the stitches with Yarn Overs, then You will need to
determine the symmetry of the pieces and the number of shift stitches and their
location by yourself.

Stuff all the pieces as you go, firmly (unless otherwise stated), gradually adding
small portions of stuffing and forming necessary shapes of pieces.

About yarn change. I recommend to change color in the last stitch of a round,
before you start the round with a new color. Work this last stitch with thread of a
new color in the following way: pull up a loop with the yarn you're working with
and then finish with yarn new one. Also I colored the rounds (in striped part) with
the different colors of the yarn for easier pattern reading.

About increases. I make invisible increases - work in FLO, but it's easier to make
classic increases in some stitches - in both loops.

The elf measures is 25 cm tall (9.8 inches) in case of using the materials listed and
crocheting in semi-X stitch.

@KRU.TOYS • SANTA'S LITTLE HELPER • 2020

7
HOW TO MAKE AN INVISIBLE EDGE
Here I wanna show you how I ended the crocheting in the rounds by making invisible
edge.

1. Insert the needle in stitch 2 stitches before your last one. Pull it out.
2. Insert the needle between front and back loops of the stitch before your last one.
Pull it out.
3. Make sure the thread is tight enough. That is all.

The quantity of shift stitches in round 24 on the

legs depends on your own yarn tension and can be
different.

How to make a right quantity of shift stitches?

Put the legs on the desk and fold its upper part like
you see on pic. The stitches which are placed in the
middle of the inner fold - are the stitches you
should connect with the chain. Mark it. Then count
how many stitches you need to crochet after end of
the round 24.

CUFF:

Then crochet the cuffs on the boots.

Place the foot like you see on pic and attach the
thread of  burgundy color to the front loop  of the
round  2. The foot must be placed with the heel
facing up. Crochet 16 sc. Fasten off.

ATTACHING THE LEGS:

Continue to work, make 3 chain stitches and 1 sl st

into the markered stitch on the 1st leg.

We've attached two legs one to another.

In the next rnd we crochet with the gray yarn till
the place where we had change the yarn on the
2nd leg in previous rnd and change there the yarn
onto the green.
25. 24 sc along the
1st leg (last stitch
into sl st), 3 sc
along the ch , 24 sc
along the 2nd leg
(somewhere here
we need to change
the yarn on green),
3 sc along the ch
(54), put the
marker.

In next rnd we must change the yarn in the same

way: when we reach the place of change.

26. 24 sc, 3 inc, 24 sc (somewhere here we need

to change the yarn on gray), 3 inc (60)
27. 24 sc, (sc, inc)*3, 24 sc, (sc, inc)*3 (66)

Continue to crochet till the place where you

change the yarn, put the marker there. Now it will
be the start of the rnd.

28. (10 sc, inc)*6 (72), change color to green

#385
29. 72 sc (72), change color to gray #49
30-32. 72 sc (72), 3 rnds, change color to green

52. (6 sc, dec)*6 (42), change color to green #385
53. 42 sc (42), change color to gray #49
54. 42 sc (42)
55. (5 sc, dec)*6 (36)
56. 5 sc along the body, 6 sc along the inner side
of the 1st arm and the body, 11 sc along the body,
6 sc along the inner side of the 2nd arm and the
body, 8 sc, change color to green #385.

Pay your attention to the simmetry of the arms

location. Please correct it according to your thread
tention and position of the legs. Maybe you will
need to make other quantity of stitches at the
beginning or at the end of the round. Also I
recommend to make ordinary decreases in the place
of crocheting the arms.

57. (4 sc, dec)*6 (30), crochet 6 st of each arm

which were left free according to stitches
combination, change color to gray #49.
58. (3 sc, dec)*6 (24)
59-60.24 sc (24), 2 rnds, change color to green

Fill the head with the fiber tightly, and if you haven't
inserted the eyes, use pins for the best positions for
the eyes. Pull the fiberfill out the head, wide the
holes for the eyes with a hook, insert and close the
back of the eyes. Fill the head with fiber again. I
recommend that you melt the back of the safety eyes.

I use a household lighter. But be careful in using it,

because you could damage or dirty the crocheted
piece and you might burn it. Press the melted part of
the back side of the eye with a lighter or a knife to
secure it.

Part 2.
the OUTFIT
pants
Make a chain of 39 stitches.
Make sure the chain doesn't twist, then make 1 sl st
in the 1st stitch and close it in a circle.

1-4. 39 sc (39), 4 rnds

5. (12 sc, inc)*3 (42)
6-9. 42 sc (42), 4 rnds
10. (9 sc, inc, 10 sc,inc)*2 (46)
11-13. 46 sc (46), 3 rnds, fasten off and cut the
thread for the 1st part of the pants.
For the 2nd part make 2 more sc after the 13th rnd
(check to your crochet tensity, fold the trouser leg in
half, maybe you will need to make less amount of
stitches), don't cut the thread.

Prepare for crocheting in reverse direction

(counterclock-wise). Pull out the hook from the last
stitch and insert it back at the other side. It means
the tip of the hook must look into the pants first and
it will look out of the pants after.

Also make sure you have the same beginning for the
1st leg and for the 2nd leg, work 4 sc through both
parts of the pants. After connecting both legs we
continue to crochet in ordinary way: from the right to
the left.

The beginning of 2nd part of the Work 4 sc through both parts of the
pants must be in the same point. pants. Step 1.

14. 42 sc along the 1st leg, 42 sc along the 2nd leg, put the marker (84)
15-17. 84 sc (84), 3 rnds
18. (19 sc, dec)*4 (80)
19-27. 80 sc (80), 9 rnds, sl st, fasten off.

4 sc through both parts of the pants. Step 1-4.

Then work in rounds.

Hide the thread tail.

UPPER PART
The upper part of the pants is crocheted in turning rows,
so pay your attention that we need to make a turning
chain after each row. Mark 19 sc simmetrycally and
attach the thread to the right side. Leave a long (abot 50
cm/19,7 inc) tail.

1-8. 19 sc, ch( 19), 8 rnds, fasten off.

Crochet along the edge of the upper part of the pants

with sc using the long tail we have left in the beginning
of the work.

STRIPS

Make chain of 7 stitches, sl st into the 1st stitch

(that is the 1st loop for the button), make chain of
35 stitches, 4 sc along the upper edge of the pants
in the middle of the back, make chain of 41
stitches, sl st into the 7th stitch from the hook
(that is the 2nd loop for the button), crochet back
to the beginning along the chain 72 sc. Cut the
thread and fasten off.

Sew the buttons to the upper part of the pants for

the strips.

hat (knitted)
The hat is oversize, so if you don't wanna make so
big one, just cast on a less stitches. But please take
to attention if you will use a less stitches the hat
will be smaller and shorter.

Cast on (I use only 1 needle) 72 stitches.

1-5. make a ribbing k2p2, i.e. anterate k2 and p2 - Dec left.

up to the end of a row (72), 5 rows
6-17. stockinnette stitch (72), 12 rows
I recommend to make the 6th row with purl.

Then make 2 dec (in the end and in the beginning) in

every front side till the end of knitting when all is
left 6 stitches. I made total 89 rows.

dec left - k2tog.

dec right - slip 2 stitches and change their order on
the left needle, but the 2nd stitch (last one) must be
in over of the 1st one. Then work them together.
Dec right - step 1.
For example:

19. all purl

20. edge st, dec left, 50 k, dec right, edge st (54)
21. all purl
22. edge st, dec left, 48k, dec right, edge st(52)
23. all purl and so on till the end.

Bind off stitches and sew the hat or attach both

edges of the hat to each other with a hook. I prefer
to work with a hook. Sew the bell on the top.
Dec right - step 2.

Cast on 9 stitches.

The scarf has a lengh about 38 cm (14.96 inc). Just knit

stockinnette stitch while it will be long enough and
bind off stitches in the end.
