General Instructions:

1. The question paper consists of 14 questions divided into 3 sections A, B, C.

2. All questions are compulsory .

3. Section A comprises of 6 questions of 2 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in
two questions.
4. Section B comprises of 4 questions of 3 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in
one question.

5. Section C comprises of 4 questions of 4 marks each. An internal choice has been provided
in one question. It contains two case study based questions.

Section A

1. Without solving the following quadratic equation, find the value of m for which the given equation
has real and equal roots.

𝑥 2 + 2(𝑚 − 1)𝑥 + (𝑚 + 5) = 0

Or
𝑥+1 𝑥−2 2𝑥+3
Solve for x: + =4− ; 𝑥 ≠ 1, −2, 2.
𝑥−1 𝑥+2 𝑥−2

2.How many terms of the AP 65, 60, 55, … should be taken so that their sum is
zero?

3. Construct a tangent to a circle of radius 3 cm from a point on the concentric circle of radius 4.2 cm
and measure its length.

4.If the sum of the first 7 terms of an AP is 119 and that of the first 17 terms is
714, find the sum of its first n-terms.

5.The denominator of a fraction is one more than twice its numerator. If the
16
sum of the fraction and its reciprocal is 2 21, find the fraction.

6. Calculate the average age of workers in a factory whose ages are as follows:

Age 18-24 24-30 30-36 36-42 42-48 48-54

No. of 12 16 24 16 8 4
workers

Ans6: 33.3 years

Given below is a cumulative frequency distribution showing the marks secured by 50 students of a
clans.

Marks Below 20 Below 40 Below 60 Below 80 Below 100

No. of 17 22 29 37 50
students

Form the frequency distribution table for the above data

Section B

7.The angle of elevation of an aeroplane from a point on the ground is 60 0.

After a flight of 30 seconds the angle of elevation becomes 30 0. If the aeroplane
is flying at a constant height of 3000√3m, find the speed of aeroplane.

8.From a solid cylinder of height 14cm and base diameter 7 cm, two equal
conical holes each of radius 2.1 cm and height 4 cm are cut off. Find the
volume of the remaining solid.

9. The median of the following data is 50. Find the values of a and b, if the sum of all the frequencies is
90.

Marks 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 60-70 70-80 80-90

Frequency a 15 25 20(=f) b 8 10

10. In the figure, quadrilateral ABCD is circumscribing a circle with centre O and AD ⊥ AB. If radius of
incircle is 10 cm, then the value of x is?

Or
If PQ = 28 cm, then find the perimeter of triangle PLM.

Section C

11.From the top of a tower 50m high, the angle of depression of the top of a
pole is 450 and from the foot of the pole, the angle of elevation of the top of the
tower is 600. Find the height of the pole if the pole and tower stand on the
same plane.

12. Find the unknown entries m, n, o, p, q and r in the following distribution of heights of students in a
class. The total number of students is 50.

Height (cm) 150-155 155-160 160-165 165-170 170-185 185-190

Frequency 12 n 10 p q 2

Cumulative m 25 o 43 48 R

The following table gives the wages of workers in a factory,

Wages (in rupees) No. of workers

45-50 5

50-55 8

55-60 30

60-65 25

65-70 14

70-75 12

Calculate the mean by the shortcut method.

Case Based/Data Based

13. A balloon seller, sells packet of colorful balloon. Each packet has two different shapes. After filling
the air in the balloon, two different shapes can be shown below.

One of them is a spherical shape and another is a conical shape.

(i) Find the air capacity of spherical balloon and the slant height of the conical balloon shape.

(ii) If the air of spherical balloon is transfered into the shape of cylindrical container having radius 4m.
Find the height of container.

14. In a mathematics class, teacher just completed the chapter arithmetic progressions to the students.
And now he is going to start the chapter from geometry which is circle. After taking few classes, now
teacher has given the following problem to the students to solve.

(i) In the given figure, from an external point P, two tangents PQ and PR are drawn to a circle of radius 4
cm with centre O . if ∠QPR = 90°, find the length of PQ.
(ii) If PQ and PR are inclined to each other at an angle of 80°, then find ∠QOR.
