Abstract

Purpose: Transgender community is one of the most marginalized communities in the country
because they do not fit into the general categories of the gender of 'male' or 'female'. The study
primarily focuses on the differential treatment meted out to the transgender community of
Pakistan ranging from CNIC registration, societal labeling, and social exclusion, harassment
faced by them in public and private spheres.
Methods: Snowball sampling technique was used because the sample was hard to find. A
sample size of 150 was taken out using snowball sampling. The data was statistically presented
in a frequency table by using SPSS. The interview schedule was used as a tool for data
collection.
Results: It was found that transgender persons are a marginalized segment of society and their
families do not own them because a shame factor is associated with them. Transgender families
do not give them their due share in inheritance. The inherent exploitation in the guru system
ranges from enslavement. To become part of the guru system, they have to follow many rules.
Discrimination has impacted their life psychologically, emotionally, socially, and economically.
The cost of social exclusion being paid by the transgender community is enormous forcing them
to live in extreme penury, homelessness, forced separation from parents, and absence of
dignified jobs.
Implications: Easing out the process of registration for the TG community, to make it happen to
record their existence in all legal documents, medical insurance, and vocational training and
transgender homes could pave a way to address their impoverishment.
Originality: The issue has not been covered in a wide range before. The paper also recommends
a solution to the problem.
Limitation: The entire country’s picture is not highlighted.
