Workshop 1 – Safety Cases Computer Sciences 270

9:30 Sean White This workshop discusses the concept of a Safety Case, NHS Digital
to 13:00 Ibrahim Habli reflecting on the provenance of the concept and its use in other University of York
Shakir Laher safety related domains. The workshop will discuss the key NHS Digital
characteristics of an effective safety case, the advantages and
pitfalls of using safety cases and illustrate different approaches
that can be adopted.
Practical exercises will be undertaken to develop a safety case
for a hypothetical chronic disease self-management system
which will culminate in the creation of a Clinical Safety Case
Report

The workshop includes a series of presentations supported by


practical exercises designed to put the data safety guidance into
practice. The workshop draws on practical application of the
standard in the context of national, data intensive services and
provides tips and techniques to ensure successful application of
the guidance. The workshop also offers guidance and
suggestions as to how the guidance can be reconciled with
safety standards DCB 0129 & DCB0160.
