BUILDING MATERIALS

The main building uses these materials:

BRICKS
Bricks used in restaurant building and main building. It provides
more efficient thermal and sound insulation.

TEMPERED GLASS
Can transmit, absorb or refract light and it is both translucent and
transparent. Glass can transmit 80% of daylight in all directions. It is also
weather resistant and rust resistant. Tempered glass used as window and
wall.
TIMBER CLADDING
Timber cladding used in main building and restaurant building.
Effective for both heat and sound insulation, timber cladding is both
functionally and aesthetically ideal for buildings. Timber cladding has been
shown to have health benefits from reducing stress to increasing
productivity.
BEIGE MARBLE
It is used on façade of the main building. It resists UV radiation,
keeping its color like on the first day. Fire- and heat-resistant. No smoke or
toxic substances are emitted if affected by fire.

WOOD SHINGLES ROOF

Wood may seem like a weak material compared to other materials
but it can actually be quite durable. In a storm, wood shingles and shakes
are resistant to wind and impact of debris.
SOLAR PANELS

Solar power systems derive clean, pure energy from the sun. Installing solar panels on your
home helps combat greenhouse gas emissions and reduces our collective dependence on
fossil fuel. Traditional electricity is sourced from fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas.
Solar power also works during a drought or heat wave. Coal, natural gas and nuclear power
use large amounts of water for cooling. During heat waves or severe droughts, as we’ve
experienced in recent years, electricity generation is at risk. But solar power systems do not
require water to generate electricity.

DIRECTION OF SOLAR PANEL

Since the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, solar panels do
best when they face south. South-facing solar panels always face the
sun, which means they never have a shadow cast on them. Although
south-facing solar modules provide the best results, east and west-
facing solar panels also produce a sizable amount of energy.

TILT ANGLE OF ROOF

The perfect roof pitch for solar panels equals the latitude of the
location of the installation. However, if this angle isn’t possible, pitch
angles between 30 and 45 degrees will work. Having solar panels at
the perfect angle increases the production of the solar array. For this
reason, flat-roofed homes are ideal.
RAIN WATER HARVESTING

Applying rain water harvesting to the project will help to reduce the rain water run
off on the site as well as it can be stored into o tank or cistern for later use. The rain water
that being stored is best source of water for plants and landscape because it does not
contain chemicals such as fluoride and chlorine. Rain water harvesting usage can be for
drinking, cooking, washing vegetables, toilets (bathing and flushing toilet), gardens,
houseplants, pools, washing equipment, fire protection, and composting.
For the rain water harvesting, underground tank is suggested because since it is
located underground where sunlight does not really penetrate, the rate of evaporation is
reduced.

The amount of rainfall that you can collect is governed by the following formula:
1″ of rain x 1 sq. ft. = 0.623 gallons
Palawan Philippines Annual Precipitation: 1313.6 mm or 51.71653543”
Main building Roof Area: 2593.6864 sqm. or 27918.2080586 sqf.
Total Rainwater Collection Potential (gallons): 899,507.9566355271

GREENERIES

The hotel units of the main building feature greeneries and natural light through the balcony
side. These green spaces not only provide aesthetic beauty but also provides benefits to
building occupants through reducing energy use and moderating temperatures in hot
spots. Another use of these greeneries to the main building are:

 They act as rainwater buffers - By absorbing rain, the water travels through the
plants, substrate and drainage layer before reaching the sewage system. This
reduces the level of groundwater and reduces the risk of flooding a sewage system
at peak load.
 They reduce roof temperature, reducing energy usage - They reduce roof
temperature, reducing energy usage. Plants reflect 30 percent of the sunlight
received, absorbing about 50 percent. This reduces the ambient temperature, which
increases the efficiency of solar panels on the roof and air conditioners in the
building.
