Classroom Feudalism

What is Feudalism?

A social system existing in medieval

Europe in which people worked and
fought for nobles who gave them
protection and land in return.

What will we be doing as a class?

We will be holding as a class an election for classroom king or queen.

The king or queen will have to then choose one classmate each to be
nobles. The Nobles will then be able to choose two classmates to be a
knight. The rest of the class will be the peasants.

Duty of the king or queen:

The king or queen hold absolute authority. They will collect money and
military service from their nobles. They will oversee the nobles and
ensure that nobles are properly performing their duties and obligations.

Duty of the nobles:

Owe absolute loyalty to their king or queen. Provide part of their taxes
to their king or queen as well as military service. The nobles oversee the
daily lives of the peasants and knights and ensure that the peasants and
knights are performing their duties properly.

Duty of the knights:

Provide military service and loyalty to their noble who provide them
payment in return. The knight's duty is to monitor and protect the
peasants from any and all dangers. They act as both a police force and an
army depending on the need of the time.

Duty of the peasants:

Tend the land and provide taxes to their local noble in return for
protection. Owe absolute loyalty to their king or queen.

What will our election look like?

Each class member can vote once, but cannot vote for themselves. Those
seeking to be King or Queen must decide on how they will govern their
peasants and what they will offer their peasants. The King or Queen will
create a small presentation explaining what they will offer if they are
elected.

What needs to be in a presentation:

● Information on your royal dynasty/lineage (Does not need to
be european, but would have to be from the time of the
middle ages)
● Tax level (Maximum is 60%)
● Tax split with the nobility (Min 20%)
● Bonus promises for the peasantry, nobles and knights
