Video #1:
Synchronizing Two AC Generators Using Sync Lights

STEP-BY-STEP DISCUSSION
Introducing all the equipment for the demonstration of synchronizing two AC
generators such as AC generators, motors, speed control, step-up transformer, current
transformer (to measure current), circuit breaker and the blinking lights.
Starting the demonstration, close the three-phase contact first. In here, the light
bulbs are blinking which means the two AC generators are not in phase with each other.
Changing the speed of the generator using speed control that result for the
blinking rate of light also changed.
Slowing down the speed of the generator that leads to the light bulbs to blink
faster.
Increasing the speed of the generator. In this stage, the light blinks slowly which
means that the sine waves of the generators are nearly the same.
Speeding up continuously until the blinking rate of the light bulb became slower
even more.
Wait for the light to be completely dark and then close the breaker.
As a result, the two AC generators are now in parallel and stays synchronous
with each other.
Note: Don’t close the breaker when there’s still light.

Video #2
Synchronizing Two AC Generators Using Stroboscope and Tape

STEP-BY-STEP DISCUSSION
Introducing all the equipment for the demonstration of synchronizing two AC
generators such as AC generators, induction motors, VFDs, pieces of tape attached in
the generator’s shaft and stroboscope.
The generators are set to be unsynchronized with each other. In a clear view,
the tape on the first AC generator slowly rotates and doesn’t have the same movement
compare to the other one.
Closing the breakers makes the two AC generators to spin at exactly the same
speed. And slowing down the induction motor a little bit than its original speed level has
no effect to the generators since they are still in sync with each other.
Slowing down the induction motor a little further makes the first AC generator to
be out of sync with the other generator.
To synchronize the two AC generators, monitor the sync lights to be dark and
then turn the breakers off. This will result for the tapes to spin at the same phase which
is the physical proof that the generators are synchronize together.

Video #3:
Demonstration of Synchronizing and Unsynchronizing AC Generators

STEP-BY-STEP DISCUSSION
Introducing all the equipment for the demonstration of synchronizing two AC
generators such as AC generators, AC motors, stroboscope, lights and circuit breakers.
The AC generators are set to be unsynchronized.
It can be seen that the generators are not synchronized because of the flashing
lights of the stroboscope.
Using the bank of lights, we can see and measure the phase difference between
the two tapes attached in each generator’s shaft.
When the lights goes all the way out, that means the generators are exactly in
phase.
To synchronize both of the generators, wait when the light’s out then close the
breaker to make the generators in synch with each other.
Open the breaker to unsynchronized the generators again. This will result the
two generators to be no longer coupled to each other.

Video #4:
Phase Deviation in Synchronizing Two AC Generators

STEP-BY-STEP DISCUSSION
Introducing all the equipment for the demonstration of synchronizing two AC
generators such as AC generators, AC motors, stroboscope and circuit breakers.
Slow down the prime mover on the first AC generator. In here, the first generator
is acting as a motor while the other generator acts as a true generator.
Adjusting its frequency makes the two generators to spin exactly and the better
alignment of the tapes in the generator’s shaft are now visible.
Turning the frequency higher than before makes the tape in the first generator
to be slightly ahead than the other one.
Going back to the original frequency, the two AC generators are now
synchronous with each other and the alignment of tapes are much closer than before.

Putting all the gathered information together, we learned some ways on how to
synchronize two AC generators together. Based from the videos, increasing the speed of
the generator, closing the circuit breaker after the light of the bulb became dark and
having the same frequencies in the generators can help to make the two AC generators
to be synchronous with each other.
