GAME: RECENT EVENTS

B.Establishing a What things have your students done recently. Have

PAST TENSE is a form by adding /-d/ or /-ed/ to the


base form of the verb.

For regular verbs, add -ed to the root form of the verb
(or just -d if the root form already ends in an e.)

Examples:

talk - talked, listen - listened, play - played, love -


loved

For irregular verbs, things get more complicated. The


simple past tense of some irregular looks exactly like
the root form.

Example:

cut - cut, put - put, hit - hit

For other irregular verbs, including the verb to be, the


simple past forms are more erratic.

Examples:

speak - spoke, eat - ate, blow - blew

PAST PERFECT TENSE is used when you are


talking about a completed action before something in
the past.

PAST PERFECT TENSE is form by using the word


“had” + past participle of the verb. It expresses
activities that existed or occurred before another
activity in the past.

Example:

We had finished dinner when james called.
