The instruction is as follows:

1. Write the tree diagram for each of the sentences below:

i. Brian found a stray dog.


ii. My niece broke her fingers.
iii. The tall tree swayed in the wind.
iv. She will attend the reunion at her school.
v. The boy in the yard is playing with his brothers.
vi. Cats are gentle, friendly and affectionate animals.
vii. An extremely suspicious man lived in that small house.
viii. The young and rich lady shopped at the prestigious mall.

Sentence 1 : Brian found a stray dog.

The sentence can be broke down into two major constituents which is Noun phrase
(NP) and Verb Phrase (VP). This NP can be further broke down into a Noun (N),
“Brian”. Moving on to VP. This VP can be broke down into constituents which is
Verb Phrase (VP) which is made by Verb (V) “found” and Determiner (DET) “a”
meanwhile Noun phrase (NP) were made by Adjective (ADJ) “stray” which modifies
Noun (N) “dog”.

Sentence 2 : My niece broke her fingers

The sentence can be broke down into two major constituents which is Noun phrase
(NP) and Verb phrase (VP). This NP can be further broke down into Determiner
(DET) “My” and Noun (N) “niece”. This VP can be broke down into to two
constituents which is Verb (V) “broke” and Noun phrase (NP) that made up by
Determiner (DET) “her” and Noun (N) “finger”.

Sentence 3 : The tall tree swayed in the wind.

The sentence can be broke down into two major constituents which Noun phrase (NP)
and Verb phrase (VP). This NP can be broke further into Determiner (DET) “The”
and Noun phrase (NP). This NP can further broke down into Adjective (ADJ) “tall”
which modifies Noun (N) “trees”. Moving on to VP, this VP can be broke down into
Verb (V) “swayed”. On the other Prepositional phrase (PP) were also involved in this
fraction and can be broke down in to Prepositional “in” meanwhile this Noun phrase
(NP) were made up by Determiner (DET) “the” and Noun (N) “wind”.

Sentence 4 : She will attend the reunion at her school.

The sentence can be broke down into two major constituents which consist of Noun
phrase (NP) and Verb phrase (VP). This NP were made up by Noun (N) “She”. This
VP can further broke down into Verb phrase (VP) and Prepositional phrase (PP). This
VP were made up by Auxiliary (AUX) “will” which is helping verb and Verb (V)
“attend”. Moving on to PP, this PP can further broke down into Noun phrase (NP) and
Prepositional phrase (PP). This NP were made up by Determiner (DET) “the” and
Noun (N) “reunion” while PP were made up by Prepositional (P) “at” and Noun
phrase (NP) which were made up by Determiner (DET) “her” and Noun (N) “school”.

Sentence 5 : The boy in the yard is playing with his brothers

The sentence can be broke down into two major constituents which is Noun phrase
(NP) and Verb phrase (VP). This NP can be broke down into Noun phrase (NP) and
Prepositional phrase (PP). The NP were made up by Determiner “The” and Noun
“boy”. PP were made up by Preposition “in” while Noun phrase were made up by
Determiner (DET) “the” and Noun (N) “yard”. Moving on to Major Verb phrase (VP)
section. This VP can further broke down into Verb phrase (VP) and Prepositional
phrase (PP). This VP were made up by Auxiliary (AUX) “is” and Verb (V) “playing”.
This PP were made up by Prepositional (P) “with” while Noun phrase (NP) were
made up by Determiner (DET) “his” and Noun (N) “brothers”.

Sentence 6 : Cats are gentle, friendly and affectionate animals.

The sentence can be broke down into two major constituents which is Noun phrase
(NP) and Verb phrase (VP). This NP were made up by Noun (N) “Cats”. Moving on
to major VP section, this VP can be broke down into Verb phrase (VP) and Noun
phrase (NP). This VP were made up by Auxiliary (AUX) “are” and Adjective phrase
(AdjP). This AdjP were made by Adjective (ADJ) “gentle” and Adjective (ADJ)
“friendly”. Lastly, this NP can further broke down into Conjunction (CONJ) “and”
and Noun phrase (NP). This NP were made up by Adjective (ADJ) “affectionate”
which modifies the Noun (N) “animals”.

Sentence 7 : An extremely suspicious man lived in that small house.

This sentence can be broke down into to major constituents which is Noun phrase (NP)
and Verb phrase (VP). This NP can be further broke down in to Determiner (DET)
“An” and Noun phrase (NP). This NP can be further broke down in to Adjective
phrase (AdjP) and Noun (N) “man”. This Adjective phrase (AdjP) were made up by
Adverb (ADV) “extremely” and Adjective (ADJ) “suspicious”. Moving on to major
VP section, which can be broke down into Verb (V) “lived” and Prepositional phrase
(PP). This PP can be further broke down into Preposition (P) “in” and Prepositional
phrase (PP) which is made up by Preposition (P) “that” and Noun phrase (NP) which
were made up by Adjective (ADJ) “small” that modifies Noun (N) “house”.

Sentence 8 : The young and rich lady shopped at the prestigious mall.

This sentence can be broke down into two major constituents which is Noun phrase
(NP) and verb phrase (VP). This NP can further broke down into Determiner (DET)
“The”, Conjunction phrase (ConjP) and Noun (N) “lady”. This ConjP were made up
by Adjective (ADJ) “young”, Conjunction (CONJ) “and” and Adjective (ADJ) “rich”.
Moving on to major VP section. This vp can further broke down into Verb (V)
“shopped” and Prepositional phrase (PP). This PP were made up by Preposition (P)
“at” and Noun phrase (NP). This NP were made up by Determiner (DET) “the”,
Adjective (ADJ) “prestigious” which modifies the Noun (N) “mall”.
