MECHANICS AND GUIDELINES

FLAG RAISING

GENERAL RULES

 Each team must provide their own banner that will serve as the flag. The measurement will be 3ft high and 4ft wide
cloth / thin taffeta fabric. The color of the banner must be the same as the department shirt. It must be printed with the
department logo.
 Two participants from each department (male and female) carrying the banner will line up and wait for the signal.
 When the whistle blows, the participants will run to the respective poles assigned.
 The first group to raise the flag and tied the ropes to the pole will be declared as winner.

BANNER LOGO DESIGN

GENERAL RULES

 Each team must have an original logo design printed in their official banner.
 Designs can be in the form of graphics, written messages or both.
 The design must emphasize the 2022 theme 
 There must be one (1) representative from each team to describe and explain the logo.
 Entries will be judged and shall be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Originality 40%
(Refers to how innovative the design is, ideas not copied from any source)
Balance and composition 20%
(Refers to the artistic arrangement of the design elements)
Craftsmanship 20%
(The ability to display mastery of technical skills)
Relevance/Message Conveyed 20%

CHEERDANCE COMPETITION

GENERAL RULES

 Each participating team is entitled to enter only one (1) official group composed of eligible female/male (performers)
and female/male (dancers) not less than fifteen (15) and not more than twenty (20) in number.
 The routine must have a part for cheers, yells and cheer dancing
 The participants should wear their departmental/team t-shirt as part of their main costume. Accessories are allowed.
 Any form of lifting is NOT allowed.
 The entire duration of the performance must not exceed seven (7) minutes, inclusive of thirty (30) seconds pre-setting
and thirty (30) seconds exit/pack-up and clean-up. 
 Deduction of 5 points from overall score for every thirty (30) seconds, or increment thereof, in excess of the allocated
seven (7) minutes for the performance. 
 No interaction between members of the panel judges and participants, coaches and spectators
 Pyro-Techniques are STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED.
 No abusive and profane language
 No inappropriate and disrespectful action
 The performance should not have a vulgar or daring acts
 The over-all committee has the right to deduct points if the performers fail to comply and violate the mechanics. There
will be a (3) three points deduction in every rules violated.

LARO NG LAHI

SACK RACE (MEN AND WOMEN)

Supplies : One sack for each team.

Set Up : The first set of participants will line up on the starting line with their sacks.
Place a marker 10 to 20 feet from the starting line.

No. of Participants: 5

Guidelines:

1. When the whistle blows, hop to the marker.


2. Hop back to the starting line and tag the next person in line.
3. The next person in the line hops into the sack and repeats the journey around the marker.
4. The first team to successfully get all participants around the cone and back WINS!

KADANG KADANG

Supplies : Two pieces of wooden stilt with a stepladder one foot above the ground
for each team.

No. of Participants: 5 for Men, 5 for Women

Guidelines:

1. At the signal "Get Set," the players stand at the starting line with their KadangKadang.
2. At the signal "Go," the players mount their stilt and start walking.
3. The first player that reaches the finish line without getting off the stilts wins.
4. A player loss if he gets off the stilts two times before reaching the finish line.
5. The first team to successfully get all participants around the marker and back wins.
MARIA WENT TO TOWN (MEN)
MARIO WENT TO TOWN (WOMEN)

Supplies : Bakya, Sayal, Kimona, Payong, Basket, Bandana (Men)


Supplies : Shoes, Slacks, Polo, Cap, Shades (Women)
Set Up : The first set of participants will line up on the starting line.
Place a marker 10 to 20 feet from the starting line.

No. of Participants: 5

What to do:

1. When the whistle blows, the players will start wearing Maria’s clothes.
2. The player will ramp to the marker, back to the starting line and tag the next person in line.
3. A player is disqualified if he doesn’t walk gracefully.
4. The last player of the first team to finish the race will present himself to Committee In-Charge and will be recognized as
the winner.)

BUNONG BRASO (MALE and FEMALE Category)

No. of Participants: 1 Player for every category

What to do:

1. Each team has one male/female participant.


2. The opponents grip one another’s hand with their elbows firmly set on a sturdy table.
3. At the signal, the competitors try to pull the other’s arm flat on the table. The first to do so wins.

TUG OF WAR (MALE and FEMALE Category)

Supplies : Pisi
No. of Participants : 7 Players for every category

What to do:

1. When the whistle blows, players will start pulling the rope.
2. The first team to successfully lose the rivals. WINS!

Note:

Supplies for Laro ng Lahi will be provided except in Mario/Maria went to town. Please see to it that you have brought with you
the proper supplies (both Mario and Maria) otherwise you will be disqualified from joining the contest.
ACADEMIC CONTESTS

POSTER MAKING CONTEST

OVERVIEW

This is an on-the-spot individual competition which aims to enhance the creativity and skills of students in conceptualizing and
creating poster design through freehand drawing.

GUIDELINES

1. Each team must have two participants for the poster making contest.
2. Participants are requested to be on the venue 30 Minutes before the time. Latecomers will not be allowed to enter the
Contest Room once the contest begins.
3. The topic will only be announced just before the contest begins. Thus, the contestants will not know the topic ahead of
time.
4. The contestants will have to create a poster using pastels, crayons, or other colouring pen in 3 hours.
5. Only the participant must enter the contest room. Coaches, advisers and students are not allowed in the contest room.
6. No books, or any other equipment or aids except laptops shall be allowed in the contest room.
7. There shall be no discussions among the contestants during the contest. No questions will be entertained, once the
clock starts ticking.
8. The results of the poster making contest shall be announced on the awarding session.

JUDGING RULES:

ESSAY WRITING CONTEST (ENGLISH Category)

GUIDELINES

1. All essays must be done on the spot.


2. One participant each team for the Essays in English Category.
3. The minimum number of page is one (1) and maximum of two (2) pages.
4. The specific topic shall be given during the actual competition.
5. The competition starts as soon as the specific topic is given.
6. Each participant will be given 90 minutes to finish the essay.
7. All essays must be done in Microsoft Word with the following settings:
 Font: Times New Roman
 Font Size: 12
 Spacing: Single space
 Paper Size: Letter (8.5” x 11”) with 1” margin on all sides
 Ink: Black
It is a requirement that participants should have at least the basic knowledge in computer typing.
8. The participants must be informed thirty minutes prior to the end of the competition to wrap up their essay.
9. Only the coordinator, witnessed by the member/s of the committee is allowed to print all entries. Each printed entry will
be assigned a number.
10. The Board of Judges, composed of three (3) members will convene as a group to judge the entries and determine the
winner.
11. The winners shall be judged based on the criteria for this competition. The first, second and third place winners will be
awarded based on the average scores computed by the judges.
12. The Board of Judges’ decision is considered final and irrevocable.

CRITERIA

The judges will be looking for quality essays that merit wide attention worthy of publication, and that add to the public debate on
the future by providing new analysis, perspectives, judgments or ideas.

1. ORIGINALITY and COMMUNICATION (40 points)

The contestants’ knowledge and depth of understanding about the issues being addressed will be demonstrated by the
quality of their essays.

a. Does the essay have a creative approach to a topic or story? (30 points)

b. Do vocabulary and word usage enhance the essay? (5 points)

c. Is the reader left with a “finished” feeling? (5 points)

2. CONTENT (40 points)

One goal of the contest is to encourage contestants to develop their own perspective on international issues. This
perspective should be reflected in their analysis of a complex issue and presentation of clear, concise arguments to support
their point of view.

a. Is the main idea well developed throughout the essay? (25 points)

b. Is the essay well organized? (10 points)

c. Is the point of view consistent throughout? (5 points)

3. WRITING MECHANICS (20 points)

The competition is designed to promote good writing as well as serious thinking. The clarity of presentation and quality of
writing will also figure in the score.

a. Are spelling, capitalization, and punctuation correct? (5 points)

b. Is the sentence structure correct? (5 points)

c. Is the paragraphing appropriate? (5 points)

d. Is the essay consistent in tense? (5 points

QUIZ BOWL: GENERAL INFORMATION and MATH

GUIDELINES

1. Each participating team must have 2 participants for Math Quiz and General Information Quiz who will compete
individually.
2. The coverage of the Quiz Bee is as follows:
Mathematics
Topics include Basic Math concepts, basic algebra, and geometry, Trigonometry, basic Probability and Statistics, Problem
Solving.

General Information

Topics include Philippine History and Culture, Art Appreciation, Philippine Literature, Science and Technology and Physical
Sciences, and Current Events which includes local and foreign significant events.

3. Only recognized participants shall be allowed to take the contestants’ seat.


4. Participants are requested to be on the Contest Room 30 Minutes before the time. Latecomers will not be allowed to
enter the Contest Room.
5. The Quiz Master shall read each question twice and the question shall be projected on a screen.
6. To answer the question after reading by the Quiz Master, the contestants are given the following time allotment:

G.I. MATH QUIZ

Easy Round 10 seconds 30 seconds

Average Round 15 seconds 60 seconds

Difficult Round 20 seconds 90 seconds

7. The end of the time allotted shall be signaled by a buzzer and the contestants shall be required to raise their answer
which is written in a rectangular board.
8. The contestants must write their answers on the rectangular board provided by the organizers.
9. Once all the boards are raised, the Quiz Master shall announce the correct answer and the team/s which got the
correct answer/s to be reflected on the score board.
10. There shall be no penalty for wrong answers. Each question shall earn points based on the following:

Easy Round 1 point

Average Round 2 points

Difficult Round 3 points

11. Complaints/Protests as to the accuracy of an answer/question must be lodged with the technical panel before the next
question is asked.
12. In case of tie, clincher questions shall be drawn from questions of those not in the tie-breaker and the winner shall be
determined in a first-to-score basis.

LITERARY CONTESTS

Madulang Sabayang Bigkas

Patnubay sa Kalahok

1. Ang paligsahan ay bukas sa mga mag-aaral ng Northlink Technological College;


2. Inaasahang ang bawat kalahok sa bawat department ay may kabuuang sampu(10) hanggang labinglima(15);
3. Isang piyesa lamang ang gagamitin sa Madulang Sabayang Pagbigkas na ibibigay ng mga punong-abala na sina Gng.
Jenelyn Gomayao at Bb. Annie Jean Pogata.
4. Pinahihintulutan ang paglapat ng himig, tunog o awit at pagkakaroon ng koryograpi;
5. Mahalaga ang sa madulang sabayang pagbigkas ang tinig, bigkas, pormasyon, blaking,ekspresyon, imahinasyon, in-
terpretasyon, damdamin, at tamang pagbigkas.
6. Tinataya sa tatlong(3) minuto hanggang limang(5) minuto ang gagawing presentasyon.
7. Ang kasuotan ay kinakailangang angkop sa gagawing sabayang pagbigkas.
8. Pinal at hindi na mababago pa ang magiging resulta.

EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING

Mechanics

1. Only one (1) representative is allowed (per track) for SHS and College.
2. The topics/questions/phrases related to the theme shall be given on the spot by the judges.
3. During the contest, participants will be given five (3) minutes for preparation. During the preparation, participants are
allowed to create a draft or notes, but it is restricted to bring it in the speech proper or read the notes.
4. Participants are given five (3) - eight (5) minutes to deliver the speech. The excess time will be deducted to the final
score. Thirty (30) seconds is equivalent to 1 point deduction.
5. Speeches should be delivered in English / Filipino.
6. The style of the delivery shall be conversational, oratorical or a combination of both.
7. The contestant should wear his/her school uniform or NTC T-shirt.
8. Use of sound effects, microphones and props is disallowed
9. After the deliberation of the members of the board of judges, the judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.

SHORT AND SWEET PLAYS

Mechanics

1. The category is a presentation of a short play with limited time and number of characters.
2. The play will be limited to a maximum of 6 characters and a minimum of 3 characters. Each player should portray a
character.
3. Technicians, musicians, and all personnel needed for production will be counted in the six contestant limit.
4. The writer is NOT required to be a part of the cast. Females must play female roles; males must play male roles.
5. No recorded speaking or singing will be permitted in play production.
6. Props, Lights, and Costumes – Handprops and a maximum of two chairs will be allowed on stage. Performers must
wear appropriate costumes. Lighting will use the available room light.
7. Time limit – Six (6) minutes minimum to Ten (10) minutes maximum. If competition play does not meet the six (6) minute
minimum or exceeds the (10) minutes maximum time limit, the contestant will receive a .5-point deduction for any
portion of thirty (30) second increments outside the allotted time. (For example, a piece timed at 3:42 would receive a
half-point deduction from the total score. A piece of 6:42 would receive a deduction of a full point from the total score.)
8. Script – Originally written scripts will be allowed. Five copies of the script must be given to the organizers. The play must
include at least two scenes. The play should depict or illustrate the theme of family unity, values and youth issues.
Scripts are to be memorized.

Mechanics

1. The team shall be composed of not less than 15 and not more than 25 students.
2. Each team shall be given the choice to select its contest piece.
3. The time element of the contest shall be 3-5 minutes.
4. The first syllable/word uttered signals the start of the performance, and the last syllable/word determines the end of the
performance.
5. Costumes and props are allowed.
6. The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.
7. The criteria for judging are as follows:

MUSICAL AND DANCE CONTESTS

VOCAL SOLO

Mechanics

1. The piece must be an Original Pilipino Music (OPM) composed by a Filipino composer written in English or in Filipino
dialect.
2. The use of accompaniment such as minus one, tape recorded, keyboard instruments are allowed.
3. The participant is free to choose a composition suited to his/her voice range.
4. Back-up singers in the minus one is allowed provided they do not sing louder than the soloist during the entire
performance.
5. Costume must be appropriate to the singer. Ball gown dress which restricts the participants to move freely is highly
discouraged.

Mechanics

1. The piece must be an Original Pilipino Music (OPM) composed by a Filipino composer written in English or in Filipino
dialect.
2. The use of accompaniment such as minus one, tape recorded, keyboard instruments are allowed.
3. The contestants maybe both males, both females, and male and female.
4. There should be two (2) voice parts
5. Singing maybe acapella, or with live piano, guitar or minus-one music (USB) accompaniment.
6. Delivery is from 3 to 6 minutes.

DANCE SPORTS – FREE STYLE COMPETITION

Mechanics

1. Each team must have one (1) pair as the official entry for Dance sports Free Style Competition.
2. The performers for the Latin Dance shall execute a combination of Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Jive and Samba with free
style choreography.
3. Attire/costume must be modest, but appropriate for the kind of dance being performed.
4. Each team must submit their official music with a maximum of 4 minutes.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

 Difficulty (20%)
Judges will look for the complexity, intricacy and speed of footwork, spins, patterns, lifts, tricks & overall routine. Points
are deducted for any routine that uses an excessive amount of tricks/lift/flares. Clean execution of the elements will
contribute to the marks on difficulty.

 Technique (20%)
Judges will look for posture, clean lines, foot placement, flexibility and body movement appropriate to the chosen
dance style. Dancers are expected to demonstrate clean execution of the chosen movements.
 Originality and structure of Choreography / OR Freestyle vocabulary (20%)
Freestyle categories are judged on the vocabulary of freestyle patterns for the lead and the vocabulary of styling of the
of such patterns by the follower.  Choreography is judged on such elements as: use of floor space, interpretation of
music, interesting pattern and shine combinations, formation changes (where applicable) and use of height levels
(lower, mid and upper).

 Appearance, Connection & Synchronicity (20%) 


Dancers will be judged on stage presence and visual presentation: aesthetics of the couple (hair, costumes, makeup
should be appropriate and complimenting to the body and the chosen dance style and should not be distracting), 1
point will be deducted for every wardrobe malfunction.  Additionally, interaction and connection with partners is
considered: coordination of movements between them, and lead/follow relationship. Synchronicity in shines for couples
and overall execution of the routine for duets and teams is marked in this section.

POWERDANCE COMPETITION

Mechanics

1. Dance group/s should consist of a minimum of 5 members and a maximum of 10. Group/s should be composed of
either male or female members.
2. The group may perform a combination of jazz, hiphop, ballet, gymnastics and cheer moves with a maximum of 5
minutes, a corresponding deduction is given per second time lapsed.
3. No liquid of flammable materials or props are allowed in the contest.
4. The attire must be suited to the presentations’ theme.
5. The used of props and creative materials is encouraged.

Pageant Mechanics

a. Each department must have 1 pair of representatives.

c. Pageant Night

 Production Number/Presentation of Candidates – all the candidates will have their production
number at the start of the program wearing their Creative Jeans & Department T-shirt. The pair will
introduce / present themselves and the department being represented.

FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY CONTEST

HIMIG NG LAHI - QUARTET – A CAPPELLA

The purpose of this contest is to develop musical ability and leadership characteristics through member participation in musical
activities.

Mechanics

1. This contest is open to all students who are presently enrolled in SHS and College program and bonafide students of
Northlink Technological College.
2. Each quartet must consist of four different parts in harmony. Each quartet will sing only one (1) OPM song in a
cappella.
3. Using of musical instruments as accompaniment is not allowed.

SAYAW NG LAHI

Katutubong sayaw is also known as Ethnic Dance or Folk Dance.  The Philippines is not only gifted by more than 7000 islands.
Philippines is also rich with a diverse culture in arts, songs and dances.

Mechanics

 Each group must be composed of a minimum of 6 dancers and a maximum of 20 dancers.


 A time limit of 8 minutes will be enforced and corresponding one point from each judge’s average score shall be
deducted in the event the time limit is exceeded. The time of the performance starts with the first note of the music or
the first movement, whichever comes first.
 The following are strictly not allowed in the performance:
a.) The use of real fighting armor (e.g. sword, knife, guns, arrow, spears, etc…)
b) The use of any form of liquid (e.g. blood, oil, water, etc.)
c.) The use of fire, candles and any pyrotechnic materials.
d.) The use of confetti either drop or bomb.
e.) Breaking of glass, pots, etc…
f.) Audio visual presentation or screen projection.
 The judges’ decision is final and unappeasable.

15 Years of NTC – A Video Documentary Contest

Overview

This competition aims to enhance the creativity and skills of students in multimedia authoring (text, graphics, audio, video, and
animation) to express a new concept, to describe an idea, or to illustrate something, given a particular THEME.

Conduct

1. Each team must have one (1) entry for video documentary. It can be in Filipino or English.
2. Each team must submit only one entry (wmv/avi/mpg format).
3. The team must create a short video from 3 to 5 minutes long that will showcase the 15 Years of NTC’s operation and
service to the community.

Scoring of the Contest

Judging of entries will be done by a panel of judges. Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Application of these criteria as to matters of subjectivity shall be at the sole discretion of the judges, whose decisions are final
