Foreword
Dear customer,
as a manufacturer in an international market, we are aware of the major responsibility we
have and our products meet the latest technological and safety standards.
There are mandatory safety regulations for all work performed on our products. According
to these, operation as well as maintenance and repair work may only be performed by ap-
propriately authorized personnel as described in the chapter entitled "Personnel - Qualifi-
cations and Duties", and not by third parties.
Safety is the highest priority for all work.
The safety rules and regulations must be complied with. This also applies to minor work
even if this results in the work being made more difficult or repair times being lengthened.
Each country has its own safety regulations. The private or public safety regulations of each
country, as well as those from accident prevention organizations, are to be followed under
any working or local conditions.
This documentation provides the basic safety regulations for working with the product.
Please read this documentation before operating your product and follow the instructions
provided here.
We are happy to answer any queries that you may have.
Regards
MWM Service
Introduction
Please read and take note of the information in this documentation. This information
prevents accidents, preserves the manufacturer's warranty and will provide a function-
al and operational product.
If the product is integrated into an existing system, a new risk assessment must be per-
formed on the the whole system. The safety instructions should therefore not be taken
as conclusive for the whole product, since each assembly and combination of further
safety measures requires a new risk assessment. For this reason, the supplied safety
instructions in the documentation must also be observed.
Please make sure that all people involved have access to and understand the contents
of this documentation.
Nonobservance of this documentation may cause injury to personnel for which the
manufacturer will not be held liable.
In some cases, the product shown in the illustrations and photographs may differ from
the one supplied. This has no effect on the contents and information given in the doc-
umentation.
A product that is defective or incorrectly repaired is always a hazard and should there-
fore not be operated.
Unauthorized modifications to the product affect safety. Any liability of the manufactur-
er is excluded for any resulting damage. Modifications to the product may also affect
performance and exhaust output to the extent that compliance with statutory environ-
mental regulations is no longer guaranteed.
The product may only be used, maintained and repaired by trained personnel who are
familiar with the safety regulations documentation and have been informed of the risks.
Assembly, maintenance and repair work may never be carried out alone or unsuper-
vised.
The safety and security devices must be correctly re-installed upon completion of the
work and tested for functionality.
Before the product is put back into operation, its operational safety is to be checked.
After maintenance and repair work, the work performed is to be documented and
checked.
Components such as springs, clamps, elastic retainers, etc. increase the risk of injury
when used incorrectly.
Only original parts or parts approved by MWM may be used.
Introduction
1
General information
Hazards are clearly identified in all operational documentation supplied by MWM in accord-
ance with EC Directives and international standards such as DIN, EN, ISO, ANSI etc.
The safety regulations must be made available to the operating personnel. The information
must always be at hand at the genset's location or, when this is not possible, at another
location that is accessible to the operating personnel.
Operating personnel must receive instruction on product operation on the basis of the sup-
plied documentation with particular attention being given to safety. This is particularly im-
portant for those personnel who only occasionally work on the product.
The generally applicable legal and country-specific regulations for accident prevention and
environmental protection at the place of operation complement the safety regulations and
operating instructions.
The relevant applicable legal regulations and guidelines for industrial health and safety at
work must be observed even when these are not expressly mentioned in the operating
manual.
All signs and adhesive labels attached to the product should be observed and legible.
Structural modifications to the product may only be made if they are in accordance with the
contractually stipulated purpose and the intended use.
The security and safety devices must be fully installed and functional.
The operating and service personnel are responsible for complying with the following
points:
Obeying the safety and operating instructions of supervisors and/or safety officers
Wearing personal protective equipment
Knowing the product components and their function and being able to use them
Being informed of the installation sites and function of the emergency stop switches
Illness or the intake of medication, alcohol or drugs reduces reaction time to such a degree
that safe working is longer be guaranteed.
The product may only be operated after it and all safety and security devices have been
checked for normal condition.
Introduction
Only authorized specialist personnel may operate, maintain and repair the product
Unauthorized persons must not enter the genset room or switchgear room
Ensure sufficient air supply and ventilation (do not cover ventilation shafts)
First aid boxes and suitable fire extinguishers must be provided. The contents and/or
the operational readiness must be checked regularly
Only store those combustible materials in the genset room which are required for op-
eration
Smoking and open flames are prohibited in the genset room
As a general rule, the following applies to the operation and maintenance of the genset:
Only put the genset into operation if all safety and security devices are properly mount-
ed
Make sure that no one is in the danger zone
Maintenance and repair work may only be performed by authorized specialist person-
nel with the appropriate competence class
Generally, the marked danger zones should not be accessed while the genset is run-
ning
- Perform the work only when the genset is shut down and secured against starting
If work has to be performed on the genset while it is running and the marked danger
zones must be accessed for this, the following points must be observed:
- The danger zones may only be accessed when the genset is running properly
(without any abnormalities) and without interruption (no background noise or sim-
ilar)
- When entering the danger zone, a second person must be on site in order to press
the emergency stop switch if necessary.
- If possible, perform work from the front or coupling side of the engine
- Once the work is complete, the danger zone must be left immediately
The general rules for occupational safety and accident prevention must be observed

General information
The labeling methods for hazardous substances applicable in the EU thus far will be re-
placed by the GHS labels.
The United Nations globally harmonized system for classifying and labeling chemicals
(GHS, Globally Harmonized System of Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Chemi-
cals) is a standardized global system for classifying chemicals and their labeling on pack-
aging and in safety data sheets.
Through a globally applicable classification method with standardized hazard pictograms
and texts, the hazards for human health and the environment during production, transport
and use of chemicals and/or hazardous substances should be minimized.
In GHS labeling, the hazard pictograms take the place of the hazard symbols with their haz-
ard designations, if necessary with a signal word (Attention or Danger)
