and let the students guess which register is considered. (about 5 sample
situations. 1 for each language register)

SITUATION 1:

Oath of Office:
I, Sam Peters, do swear thatI will well and truly serve Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
the second, Her heirs and successors according to law, in the office of Governor-
General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and I will do right to all manner of
people after the laws and usages of the Commonwealth of Australia, without fear
or favor, affection or will. So help me God!

SITUATION 2:
Man: Love, I have something for you.
Woman: What is it, Love?
Man: I give you this promise ring as a sign of me staying with you until the end.
Woman: Oh, Love. Thank you so much.

SITUATION 3:

Patient : Doctor, I don’t feel well today. I feel pain on my lower back.
Doctor : Ma’am, for now, we are going to run some tests for us to see if there are
complications on your body.
Patient : What are the possible complications, Doc?
Doctor : If you feel internal pain on you lower back, there is a great chance of
having kidney failure or just muscle strains.

SITUATION 4:

Friend 1 : Hey, listen. I have chika.


Friend 2 : Now what is the tea?
Friends 1 : I heard that there is a new student in the other section. And he is known
to be handsome.
Friend 2 : Let’s go check him out!

Instructions:
The class will be divided into 5 groups:

GROUP1 FROZEN
GROUP2 FORMAL
GROUP3 CONSULTATIVE
GROUP4 CASUAL
GROUP5 INTIMATE

Each group shall perform a short skit highlighting the language register assigned
to each group.

VII. ASSIGNMENT ROSELLE

Instructions:
Be able to make a comic strip showing the correct use of language register.
Pick only one from the 5 language registers presented in class.
