The end beginning
Everyone has been hurt in their lives. Some emotionally, whether it be a broken heart or the
aching grief of losing a loved one, and some physically, like a scraped knee or a born
disability. Everyone experiences it, has emotions such as rage, yearning, and acceptance.
Common, right? We all experience the same thing, in the same way. But what isn’t the same,
is the outcome. The result. The product of all this distress, fear, and healing. The way people
emerge from the cocoon of change will never be the same, positive, negative, we are all
changed people. But that doesn’t mean our lives can’t take a turn for the better.

Now, I’d like to introduce you to a man by the name of Doctor Joe Dispenza. Now, you may
have heard of him, you may not have, but that doesn’t change the fact that this man is seen as
a walking miracle. In 1986, Dr. Dispenza was crippled in a triathlon. He was riding his bike
and turning at an intersection, when a four-wheel drive going 88 kilometres per hour hit him
from behind. He landed on his back and broke SIX of the vertebrae in his spine. Four doctors
told him he was lucky to be alive, but he was likely to be disabled for the rest of his life. The
Harrington rod surgery was recommended by all of them, requiring him to have steel rods
surgically implanted in his back and align his spinal cord.

But Joe didn’t want the surgery. He didn’t want to be physically unable, he didn’t want to
have to spend his life in a wheelchair, he didn’t want to lose his life’s work. So while he was
sitting in that hospital bed, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, he did something that would
completely change his life. He healed himself. ‘How? What? No way!’ Believe it or not, Dr.
Dispenza completely re-aligned his spine through meditation and visualisation.

Now, you may be thinking, ‘why didn’t he just stick it out with western medicine?
“conventional” medicine?’ ‘how did he know meditation would work?’. Before I answer that,
you have to know how western medicine works. Their approach is to divide the disease from
the health, changing the body’s circumstances to adapt to the medicine, using drugs, pills,
liquid, anything they can get their hands on to inject substance into your body. Now, let’s
look at this in comparison to meditation and manifestation.

First, I’m going to differentiate between the two. Manifestation, instead of forcing the body
to adapt for the medicine, forces the ‘medicine’ to adapt for the body. Instead of accepting
how your body is in that state and bringing in outward forces to change that state, the state
changes from within through the power of the mind. You imagine yourself in the state that
you want to be in, you affirm yourself in that state, until you truly believe that you are in that
state. Most of the human brain can’t tell fact from fiction – if you believe you are healed,
your body will simply start to heal. As crazy as it sounds, it is real. And if you apply it, you
have the power to change your entire life.
In the mind, there are two parts: the conscious and subconscious mind. Everything you are
currently aware of is your conscious mind. The extension of your conscious is your
subconscious, the largest chunk of the mind. Some believe it is about 95-97% of your entire
brain, with a minute 5% in your conscious. But what most people miss, something that’s
crucial to the manifestation process, is the way the subconscious influences the conscious.

Our subconscious controls almost every part of our being, formed from our memories and
experiences throughout life. These memories and experiences determine our future
behaviour, and our conscious mind is fed information from our subconscious whether we
realise it or not. This is what provides us with the significance in all our communications with
the world.

Now, there are certain ways to shape the subconscious mind to make it bend to our will in
ways it cannot conquer, therefore influencing our conscious and positively affecting our
actions. One way to do this is the exercise of visualisation. During the exercise, your
amygdala, a tiny structure in the center of the brain responsible for the fight or flight
response, has trouble distinguishing between something that is simply being seen during a
visualization meditation session and something that is actually happening in real time.
Therefore, it will imagine it is real to give you the best survival chance possible. For
example, with a broken spine, this would trigger bones to heal so that you can trigger
adrenaline around the body and run from whatever danger might be causing this response.

Furthermore, this ties in with the reactions of positive thinking and a strong belief, leading to
the final step: meditation. This can be done via a guided video or simply being aware of your
surroundings in a natural setting. Some of the steps for beginners include to sit up
comfortably and take a few deep breaths to calm your mind whilst closing your eyes and
noticing any and every sensation around you. Be aware of the thoughts you are having, focus
mainly on your body first before extending your focus outwards, and gently open your eyes
when you feel ready.

Meditation may seem tedious, boring, and ineffective, but it can have many great impacts. By
relaxing your body and brain, it's easier to quiet the distracting thoughts that keep your mind
buzzing. Studies have found that meditation can help reduce cortisol, which is the hormone
associated with stress. In turn, meditation increases the natural melatonin levels to help with
more restful sleep. It also improves your mood and mindfulness, as meditation can produce a
deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. During meditation, you focus your attention and
eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress.
This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.

All of this finally helps your health, extremely benefiting your mind and body in the best
ways possible. Thus, the subconscious mind has a massive impact on the small conscious
mind that we exploit daily. We can manipulate subconscious behaviour by changing the way
we think, through concepts such as manifestation and meditation. This in turn impacts our
health by triggering the body to go into flight mode, allowing for intense physical
improvement. We cannot allow our bodies to be slammed down by the endless waves of
societal and personal challenges when the answer is right in our own bodies. Make the
change. Be the change.
