A very good day to the excellences, distinguished guests and my dear friends.

Today I am here to share

my views about a critical health issue which is depression.

Depression is a medical illness that brings negative effects on a person’s health and feelings. It brings a
feeling of sadness for a long period of time. It can decrease the person’s ability to function at home or
workplace.

It is seen that one in six people get depressed at some point of their life. Normally depression occurs in
adults but some times it can happen to teenagers of 17 years and above.

A depressed person feels sad and looses interest in day to day activities. The person may loose or gain
weight. He or she finds difficulty in thinking or concentrating and at times feels worthless. This is a
critical part of the disease and the person should immediately take medical advice.

There are various therapies and medications which cure depression. Along with this there are number of
ways by which people can reduce symptoms of depression.

The person should talk to someone about his feelings and focus on a balanced diet. Including green
vegetables and fruits in the diet will help to a great extent. Regular exercise and exposure to adequate
sunlight also reduces the symptoms of depression. Depression is an illness which many people don’t
talk about. People hesitate to contact a psychiatrist for treatment. This should not happen. We must
understand that like our body gets ill our mind too can get some illness and it can be treated as well.
With proper treatment many depressed people can live a happy life.

That’s all I had to say today. Thank you everyone for listening to me so patiently. Have a great day
ahead.
