II. RATIONALE

The importance of employee health cannot be overstated. It goes

beyond smooth day-to-day operations. For an organization to succeed,
employees need to be mentally and physically healthy.

Faculty members now a days are bombarded with much anxiety, stress,
emotional breakdown brough about by Covid -19 pandemic. Staying in their
table for almost 8 hours a day, doing their instruction function like giving
lectures, preparation of modules, power point presentation, instructional
material, quizzes, test questions, and doing many other related works in their
administration position, extension and research proposals and papers. With
tedious work assigned to each faculty, their physical fitness, emotional,
psychological -mental health is at risk. Adding another task and multi- burden
responsibilities to every female employee is as well a risk factor that health
wellness is being disregarded.

Based from the initial report given by the group, most of the members
are in their productive years having the age range 0f 30-35, they are on their
productive years. Most of the women do a multiple role of being a mother,
wife, housemaker, tutor to their children, gardener, and attending some
community work. Men on the other hand focuses on “bringing food in the
table”, that aside of being a professor/instructor, they attend to other
productive role like being an entrepreneur, researchers and farmer.

It was noted that most of the faculty members seldom drink water,
even forget to eat nutritious breakfast or a morning snack instead prefer to
have a coffee at their table. It is sad to note that 40% of the faculty members
are prone to urinary tract infections, gallbladder problems, diabetes, high
level on bad cholesterol,

Majority of the employee agreed that after office work, they bring home
academic -related work and stay until 10- 11 at night. Lacking sleep, rest and
time to relax, to re- energize and recharge is at question.

Taking care of employees’ health in the workplace is not only beneficial

to them, it also creates an effective and efficient working environment that
benefits the organization. Employee health and productivity go hand in hand:
A mentally and physically healthy individual is more optimistic, creative, and
motivated. Taking care of the employees’ wellbeing also means: Staff who
feel cared for and appreciated, Increased morale and job satisfaction, reduced
absenteeism, better staff retention, a good work culture with positive
relationships between coworkers and supervisors.

Ensuring the health, wellness and invests in the wellbeing of its

employee is one of the primary purpose, concern and responsibility of human
resources management (HRM) and a top concern of Gender and
Development of the institution. As an employee advocate, the HR manager
and GAD Focal Person should focus on keeping workers motivated,
contributing, and happy. One of the key strategies in achieving this is
prioritizing employee’s health, hence a health wellness program should be
established and be sustained to ensure protection of every faculty health
wellness.
