My name is Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo Calderón but whole people know
me for Frida Khalo. I was born in July 6th in Coyoacán, Mexico in 1907. And, I´m a painter. My childhood was not the best, because I suffered from poliomyelitis, it's like infantile paralysis and I couldn't walk very well; but with exercises and rehabilitation programs I was able to recover. Due to my illness, I couldn´t enjoy playing and participating in activities with other children, but my father was always there to support me. In 1925 I had a serious accident when I was returning from school with my ex- boyfriend, Alejandro Gómez Arias, on a bus. I fractured my spine in three parts. In addition to my ribs and collarbone sustaining injuries, my right leg was broken into eleven pieces and my right foot was dislocated. I am alive because God wanted it that way. I underwent multiple surgical operations, plaster corsets and different types, as well as various "stretching" mechanisms to improve. Before the accident, painting did not interest me at all. But after suffering the accident, painting takes on a central place in my life. In September 1926 I painted my first oil self-portrait, which I dedicated to Alejandro Gómez Arias, my ex-boyfriend. and as if it were a dedicated song, I understood the purpose of my paintings: to reflect in them the events of my life and the feelings they produced in me. In 1928 I met Diego Rivera at a party and after a few months we started a relationship. Then in 1929 we got married. The Tate Modern considers me "one of the most important artists of the 20th century", [251] while, according to art historian Elizabeth Bakewell, I am "one of the most important figures of the 20th century in Mexico". All this due to my participation and search for the feminine identity in my works; in addition to the fact that my reputation and recognition as an artist and person arises above all from a fascination with the story of my life, especially the painful and tragic aspects. I´m a common and normal person. I like to walk in the park with my husband, I like to read books of romance and psicology. My favorite book is “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. Also, I like to take pictures of beautiful landscapes. If a weren´t a painter now, I will be a medical illustrator because a like science and art. Also, if I weren't a painter, I'd like to be an arts teacher to teach that art is a form of expression that helps us communicate our feelings and more. I´ll work in a school and museums.
