My name is Jack Martin and I’m crazy about computers. I'm always in front of the monitor. My little sister
Judy, is stupid. She has computer classes at school, but she’s not interested. Daddy is different. He has a laptop
and it is always in his car. It is a smart computer, but it has no Internet access. Mum always gets angry when I
sit in my room on my PC all day. But the Internet and the games are so much fun! Frank, my brother, always
brings some strategy game home. Of course Mum has a computer in her office too! Well, life is hard for a
teenager.
2. Dialogues
1. Jack - Judy.
- Hi Jack! Are you going back to school? It is Monday today. Have you got a computer class in the
afternoon?
- Hi Judy! Yes, but I'm not going today because Peter has a new computer game and he's free now.
- Can I go with you? What is the game like?
- No, you cannot. I don't know what the game is like. Anyway we are installing his modem. It is not very
exciting for a girl!
- Install, modem! Why are you using words I don't understand?
2. Judy – Mother.
- Jack, Judy! Dinner is ready. Where is Jack? Is he sitting in front of his PC again? Isn't he hungry?
- He is with his friend, Peter. They are installing a modem.
- Judy? Are you turning into a computer freak too?
- But Mum, he is only helping Peter.
- Yes, and he is never at home. His room is full of instruction books, spare parts, cables. And of course he has
no time to repair my keyboard, clean my mouse or buy a new cartridge for the printer.
- Mummy, don't be angry! Boys will be boys!

Hackers and Netnames. You don’t have to be a computer genius to break a password. A survey by credit
card giant Visa has found that 67% of passwords are names or numbers. People choose their birth date,
nickname or favorite sports team as a password. Visa says many people are putting themselves at risk by
choosing passwords that are easy for hackers or criminals to crack.
Net names. Almost a fifth (19%) of people use their own name or their nickname as a password for personal
or private information. Next in the list is the name or nickname of their partner. Many people use the same
password to protect access to the different online accounts and confidential information.
a. A cikk szerint nagyon nehéz kitalálni, milyen jelszóval védik meg az emberek a számítógépeiket.
d. A felhasználók mintegy egy ötöde a saját nevét vagy becenevét használja belépő kódként.

Review 1
HOW DOES A DIGITAL CAMERA WORK? Digital cameras are very much like the still more familiar
35mm film cameras. Both contain a lens, an aperture, and a shutter. The lens brings light from the scene into
focus inside the camera so it can expose an image. The aperture is a hole that can be made smaller or larger
to control the amount of light entering the camera. The shutter is a device that can be opened or closed to
control the length of time the light enters. There's a computer in your camera. Each time you take a picture
millions of calculations have to be made in just a few seconds. It's these calculations that make it possible for
the camera to preview, capture, compress, filter, store, transfer, and display the image. All of these
calculations are performed by a microprocessor in the camera that's similar to the one in your desktop
computer.

Nothing is perfect. Anything can go wrong. There are gadgets that you can fix without any help, and there are
complicated ones, and when they go wrong, you have to ask for help. Can you fix a printer fault? Do you know
what to do when you get a computer virus? What will you do if you can't open a website, or you break your
digital camera? Will you phone somebody if you can't withdraw money from an ATM, or you can't get back your
credit card from the slot? I think, you can add to this list with your own experiences. But what are the most
common mistakes and problems in this area? One day Judy was alone at home. She wanted to use Google

homework before morning. First she phoned her mother but she was out at a meeting. Then she talked to her

got home - showed her how silly she was. She forgot to check the mains. There was a blackout in the whole

- Right. But I need that program, I must finish my homework.
- OK. Now you can reopen it. But don't open more than 3 programs at the same time, because the

Xmas was so near that even Frank remembered he needed some money to do the shopping. But he was a
computer freak, he didn't want to waste time going from shop to shop. He decided to do some online shopping.
He started surfing the Net trying to find something special. He knew his parents loved books so first he browsed
in an online bookshop. He found some lovely picture book of Switzerland for his father, who was planning to
visit the country in the summer. He decided to buy a nice romantic novel for his mother and an interesting book
on Macromedia Flash for his brother. He was just looking at the books for children when he saw that there was a
section on computer games and CD ROMs. That was the best present for all the family! Everybody could use it,
and Christmas was a time when everybody was at home. The problem was there were so many interesting CD
ROMs that he couldn't choose one. Then he remembered his grandmother. She had no computer at home! So it
meant he had to go to the shops anyway. But now a t least he knew where to start. In a bookshop of course!
2. Dialogues

- How much are they?
- € 9.90 and 18.90. And you wanted to buy a mouse. Here you are. Do you want a wireless or an optical
mouse? One with auto scrolling? The mouse with auto scrolling is more expensive. But if your son has a
palmtop, he doesn't need a mouse. Palmtops work with trackballs.
- Well, I don't really know. I wonder how much money I have.

small that he can take it to school.
- I'm afraid, it is a bit expensive.
- Then perhaps a digital camera. Has he got a PC at home?
- Yes, and a camera too. What is that strange looking gadget on the top shelf?

Troubleshooting a PC Mouse. The humble and simple PC mouse revolutionized computer use. This
remarkable device is simple and easily serviced by the user, whether in a maintenance situation or when
trouble arises. Except for the newer wireless and optical versions, a computer mouse is also very cheaply
replaced. You can buy a decent mouse for under $10 in many areas. Like your keyboard, it's one of those
components you can spend very little on. The damage comes from abuse.

Grandmother usually arrives with a lot of parcels and full of news about her village and questions about the
children's school. It takes some time before things get back to normal, although life is different with
grandmother around. She needs some help with life in a big city and in a modern household. Judy is always
happy when she can show her how much she knows about gadgets and equipment and how well she can use the
computer. Granny can hardly understand the simplest operations on the computer like scanning a document or
browsing the Internet. For her, even a mobile phone seems mysterious. One day Jack tried to explain to her how
to make a phone call from his cell phone. "You have to dial in the number. Just be careful, because if you are
calling a ground-line number, first you have to dial 06 and the area code. You can of course check the number in
the memory first to save you dialing it". Granny prefers the 'old fashioned' ground-line phones to mobile phones,
and she also prefers printed photos to digital images. She cannot understand why it is better to use a digital
camera than a traditional one. She definitely insists on taking her grandchildren's photos home in print! The
same happens in the kitchen. Mother has difficulty showing her how to use the different gadgets like the
dishwasher, the food-processor or the microwave oven. "I don't need these silly gadgets. All I need is my two
strong hands" she says when Mother tells her not to do the washing up. However, even Granny will admit
machines can be smart when she can watch her grandchildren's happy faces on the family video or she can enjoy
reading the news on the Internet without going out to the cold streets for a paper on a December morning.

don't you go and join him?
- I don't care for computer games. I don't even know what a computer is good for!

switch it on and how to use the Internet! He will show you some search engines and you could even find your
favorite newspaper!

- But then we have to wait again. This is very slow. I prefer my newspaper.

Mr. John Martin has worked for his company for twenty years. He still remembers how his colleagues disliked
computers, how his first e-mails arrived and how special it was to access the Internet. Now he cannot imagine
his life without the monitor on his desk and the laptop in his car. Today he has a very special task to perform in
the office: he has to order the company's homepage as the management has decided to start an e-business. He
has contacted some web design experts and has browsed several sites to have an insight into this field. He has
even asked his son, who is studying multimedia development, what specifications he has to define and what
financial conditions he can expect. But he is still not very sure what he wants and what the company really
needs to become a profitable e-trader. So now he decides to phone one of his friends who has recently started his
home page to get some useful advice.
2. Dialogues
1. Alan and Father.
- Hi Alan, how are you doing these days? Still sitting at home with the computer and not even giving a call to
your old friends?
- Hi John, where are you calling from? Don't you want to come over for a beer?
- It's eleven o'clock on a grey Monday! It's too early to start drinking. I have phoned you because I need
your advice. I have a meeting with a web designer in half an hour's time. The problem is I don't really know
what I want.
- I'm afraid nobody can tell you what you want. But of course I can tell you some basic things to remember
when designing a site. There are rules about the layout and structure and others about the contents. Which
shall I start with?
- I think I can decide about the contents. I know what I want to put on the page but I don't know how.
- The best thing would be to ask the designer to prepare several different plans so you can choose the one
you really like. Just remember some basic rules, like
– don't load too much information on one page,
– don't use too many graphics and pictures,
– use a site map to help the visitor,
– apply a search function,
– don't use too many links, and I'm afraid many more.
- Alan, I have a brilliant idea! Why don't you come over and talk to this web Designer with me? I could tell
him about the content and you could give him the technical specifications.
- Sorry, no way, I'm quite happy with my PC and a beer. Unless you are paying...
- Of course, I'm paying. Just come over quickly, because he is arriving in no time!
- Well, just take a seat. Will you have coffee or mineral water?
- Just water, thanks. I have been in a great hurry to get here on time!
- I'm so sorry but we have to wait a bit more. You know I have invited Mr. White, an old friend of mine to
be present when we talk about this web site.
- It's quite all right. Anyway, this is only a first time. I have thought of showing you some sites I have
designed. Perhaps by looking at them we can decide what you like and what you don't like about them. We

Frank is going to have his twentieth birthday at the weekend. The whole family is preparing for the great day
with something special. Frank has decided to celebrate with friends on Saturday so the family meal, with
grandmother present, will be on Sunday. Family members have asked him several times about his wishes, but he
hasn't really come up with anything new. Of course he would need a new PC with more memory and high-tech
peripheries such as a scanner, a microphone or a color printer, but he knows the limits of the family budget very
well. He could spend a lot of money on new software too but now he has to make his choice quickly. As
recently he has started collecting music CDs he has decided to ask for a CD burner. He knows that downloading
from the Internet is not really legal, but all his friends do the same regularly. He often gets e-mails from friends
who forward him useful URLs from where he could easily access great music, but without the CD burner it is a
bit complicated. So this is what he has told his mother to buy and this is what he is going to get. Blank CDs,
good books, some new clothes will be next to his plate on the Sunday table as well, but he won't waste too much
time on them. He will quickly phone Peter to ask him to come over and help him install the precious new
device.
2. Dialogues

- What are you talking about?
- The CD burner! Don't you remember? I have received it from my parents.
- Yes, of course, it was your birthday yesterday. And I completely forgot! What can I get you?
- Could you bring me some blank CDs? And I know you have some URLs where we can download some
good music from.
- Do your parents know what you want to use the burner for? Your father must know that downloading is
illegal!
- Well, I don't think he cares. And anyway he thinks I want to make a backup copy of my documents and
of the sites I'm designing for school. He has already asked me to save his files on a CD too. So are you
coming?
- Of course, but we are still eating.
- So see you in an hour, OK?
- OK!

Subject: Happy Birthday!
Dear Frank,
It's ages since we met. How are you? I am doing a computer course now. I need it for my job. I started it in
October. It takes 2 months. It includes computer hardware, I mean operation and maintenance, introduction
to computer networks and problem solving. I can also select some optional modules like introduction to
programming or system analysis. Unfortunately, I can't decide what to choose. Which one do you
recommend?
Also, I know, it is your birthday today. So, happy birthday to you! I have also sent you an e-card, I hope,
you will like it. It would be lovely to meet somewhere just to say "happy birthday to you" in person too.
What about the Corner Internet Café in Park Road tomorrow afternoon?
I'm looking forward to your reply.

7. Reading Comprehension
1. This is a CD burner ad. Read it and answer the questions.
How CD Burners Work. In 2000, one of the biggest news stories was the rise of Napster and similar file-
sharing programs. With these programs, you could get an MP3 version of just about any song you want
without shelling out a dime. The record companies were fairly upset over this turn of events, and
understandably so: they weren't making any money off the distribution of their product to millions of people.
An external writable CD drive, also called a CD burner, help you take music or data files from your computer
and make your own CDs. But there was money to be made on the "Napster revolution," as electronics
manufacturers and retailers soon discovered. In 1999, 2000 and early 2001, sales of CD burners and blank
CD-Recordable discs skyrocketed. Suddenly it was feasible for the average person to gather songs and make
their own CDs, and music-mix makers everywhere wanted to get their hands on the means of production.
Today, writable CD drives (CD burners) are standard equipment in new PCs, and more and more audio
enthusiasts are adding separate CD burners to their stereo systems. In less than five years, CDs have eclipsed
cassette tapes as the mix medium of choice.
b. With the help of Napster one could access music without paying.
d. The rise of file-sharing programs meant a great loss for all the IT industry.

Unit 9 - Surprise for the Birthday
2. The following reading passage explains how CD drives work. Read the text and answer the questions
with one word or expression. CDs store music and other files in digital form – that is, the information on
the disc is represented by a series of 1s and 0s. In conventional CDs, these 1s and 0s are represented by
millions of tiny bumps and flat areas on the disc's reflective surface. The bumps and flats are arranged in a
continuous track that measures about 0.5 microns (millionths of a meter) across and 3.5 miles (5 km) long.
To read this information, the CD player passes a laser beam over the track. When the laser passes over a flat
area in the track, the beam is reflected directly to an optical sensor on the laser assembly. The CD player
interprets this as a 1. When the beam passes over a bump, the light is bounced away from the optical sensor.
The CD player recognizes this as a 0. A CD player guides a small laser along the CD's data track. In
conventional CDs, the flat areas, or lands, reflect the light back to the laser assembly; the bumps deflect the
light so it does not bounce back. The bumps are arranged in a spiral path, starting at the center of the disc.
The CD player spins the disc while moving the laser assembly outward from the middle. To keep the laser
scanning the data track at a constant speed, the player must slow the disc as the assembly moves outward.

von Neumann, John. (1903-1957), world-famous Mathematician who was professor of mathematical
physics in the University and later a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study, was born on December 28,
1903, the son of a well-to-do banker in Budapest, Hungary. From the age of thirteen he showed an interest in
mathematics, which was fostered by his teachers at the Lutheran High School of Budapest. After graduation
from high school, von Neumann studied chemistry for two years in Berlin and for two years in Zurich but
spent much of his time with mathematicians, taking a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Budapest not
long after receiving his chemistry diploma at Zurich. Thereafter, he concentrated on mathematics and
theoretical physics in further study at Göttingen and Hamburg and after 1927. In 1929 von Neumann
accepted an invitation to come to Princeton as a visiting professor for one term. Later he spent one term each
year in Princeton and one in Germany until 1933 when, at the age of 30, he accepted appointment as the
youngest and one of the first professors in the newly founded Institute for Advanced Study. In 1937 he
became a United States citizen. In collaboration with the University's Class of 1913 Professor of Political
Economy, Oskar Morgenstern, he developed further the interest in game theory. Their joint endeavors
resulted in Theory of Games and Economic Behavior (published by Princeton University Press in 1944).
Probably the best known and most dramatic of von Neumann's accomplishments was his development of one

of the speediest, most accurate, and most useful computers, which made the essential calculations that
enabled the United States to build and test its first full model of the hydrogen bomb. In the summer of 1955,
only a few months after his appointment to the Atomic Energy Commission, von Neumann became ill with
what was soon diagnosed as cancer. His last public appearance came early in 1956 when, in a wheelchair at
the White House, he received the Medal of Freedom from President Eisenhower. That April he was taken to
Walter Reed Hospital where he died on February 8, 1957.
William H. Gates. - Chairman and Chief Software Architect, Microsoft Corporation William (Bill) H. Gates
is chairman and chief Software Architect of Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft employs more than 50,000
people in 78 countries and regions. Born on Oct. 28, 1955, Gates grew up in Seattle with his two sisters.
Gates attended public elementary school at the private Lakeside School. There, he discovered his interest in
software and began programming computers at age 13. In 1973, Gates entered Harvard University as a
freshman. He has developed a version of the programming language BASIC for the first microcomputer.
Under Gates' leader-ship, Microsoft's mission has been to continually advance and improve software
technology, and to make it easier, more cost-effective and more enjoyable for people to use computers. Gates
has written Business @ the Speed of Thought, a book that shows how computer technology can solve
business problems in fundamentally new ways. The book was published in 25 languages and is available in
more than 60 countries. Gates' previous book, The Road Ahead, was published in 1995, held the No. 1 spot
on the New York Times' bestseller list. Gates has donated the proceeds of both books to non-profit
organizations that support the use of technology in education and skills development. Gates has invested with
cellular telephone pioneer Craig McCaw in Teledesic, which is working on an ambitious plan to employ
hundreds of low-orbit satellites to provide a worldwide two-way broadband telecommunications service.

Chapter 13. Unit 10 - Gadgets and
More Gadgets
1.
General topics. Household devices; Doing shopping
Examination skills. Reading Gadget Man Writing Describing gadgets Speaking Useful and useless gadgets
Have you got a food processor at home? And a bread-kneading machine? What about a large freezer with ice
cubes dropping out of it on nice hot summer afternoons? Or even better: an ice-maker in the car? Or perhaps
you don't care for everyday comfort? You just want to sit back and relax. Then you could probably do with a
palmtop or electronic organizer! What about a cell phone that reminds you of birthdays and deadlines? Or
perhaps a mapping system in your car? Buy our latest invention, the pen drive! No battery, no more cables are
required. Just attach it to your USB port and no more removable hard disk drives are needed! No more faded
family photo albums! What you need is a VideoChip Wallet. Your digital photos can be viewed in bright colors
on the special LCD display! Why don't you buy the world's smallest MP3 player? With the Casio Wristwatch
MP3 player even the worst math class can be made enjoyable. Jack is sitting at his desk with printed
advertisements about gadgets and electronic devices around him. He has even put down some ideas. Still he
feels he has not one idea in his head about what to write in an essay for his literature lesson. The essay with the
title “Could you live without electronic gadgets?” must be written by tomorrow. He is stuck. Perhaps Peter is at
home. He always has clever ideas. No, he is out, of course! He could check Google. Though, he has always
known that too much information is no information. A search for “electronic gadgets” has given 1.289.260
results with sub-categories like Shopping, House and Gardening, Kitchen and Dining, and Industrial Gadgets.
After he has browsed the 16 results under the category “Magnets” and has read a lot of crazy things about fridge
door magnets and dining room devices, he realizes he has to ask for help.
2. Dialogues
1. Mother and Jack.
- Mum, if you had to write an essay with the title “Could you live without electronic gadgets?”, what would
you write about?
- Jack, you know that I never do your homework.
- I haven't asked you to do it for me. Just help with some good ideas!
- All right, if I were you I would first find out what electronic gadgets can be found in a house and what
they are used for. Then I would check how often they are used and if there are some that are never used. You
know people often buy them because they look nice or seem useful but later they are just forgotten and left
on a top shelf. Then I would try to draw a general conclusion like “gadgets don't make us happier” or “the
more gadgets you have at home, the easier your life becomes”, just as you think.
- But mother, do you really think that gadgets can make our life easier?
- Of course, I don't, it was just a stupid example to make you think. I'm happy that you have asked me! I
have just the opposite opinion. Although we need gadgets and devices to keep us comfortable, let's not forget
that money, comforts and technology are not everything!
- Well Mother, now I know the moral, but what should I write in the essay?
- Peter, you are back, finally! Where have you been? I badly need you.
- Well, you know that Dad is going to have his birthday tomorrow and my mother has asked me to help her
buy a digital camera.
- Have you bought it?
78

Unit 10 - Gadgets and More Gadgets
- No, because there will be a sale from next week when all the electronic products in that shop will be half
price.
- Have you seen anything really exciting?
- It depends. Mother was quite excited about a microwave oven that can grill and bake and has automatic
settings for time and weight.
- But your micro was bought only two years ago! I still remember how happy your Mother was!
- Yes, you are right. But Mother thinks this one is smarter and will look much better with its shining
surface!
- As a matter of fact this is exactly what we have to write our essay for the literature lesson on. Have you
forgotten?
- What is it? Gadgets in our home?

When Frank got home from college he found the family in crisis. Mother was nervously clicking through her
documents saved in her folder on the computer, Jack was shouting something to Peter, holding some strange-
looking book and Judy was explaining something to Father with red eyes and a dripping nose. What had
happened? It took Frank some time before he could find out what it was. Everybody was so happy with the 24-
hour Internet service and the opportunity of downloading from the Internet that they completely forgot about
security and virus scanning. The result was a tragedy! Just an hour ago Mother wanted to find a file stored
among her personal folders and she was shocked to see that several files had names unknown to her and others
had become unreadable. All she could see was squares and dots. She got even more hysterical when Jack started
to explain about viruses and data security. And it was still the beginning! When Judy realized that all her work
collecting information for her paper on the life of jungle animals to be published in the school journal's biology
section was gone, she started crying and blaming Jack. Jack knew something had to be done and could hopefully
be done as well, so he phoned Peter. Now they are talking about the damage done by the virus.

Chapter 15. Unit 12 - E-Learning

General topics. Internet and learning
Examination skills. Reading E-learning Writing Composition on E-learning and summary writing Speaking E-
learning and traditional learning
Judy had often seen Frank sitting in front of the monitor and taking notes while reading long texts. She had
asked him several times to explain to her what he was doing and the answer was always \e-learning\. She
wondered what he meant until one day she understood! Their biology teacher told them they needed to go up to
the computer room to be able to access the Internet. It sounded exciting. Judy thought it would be something
like a video lesson, but she was mistaken! Firstly the teacher showed them how to type in the URL then he
wrote some questions on the board. He handed out a list with addresses of interesting sites and search engines.
"You have 60 minutes to find the answers to my questions. You must save your answers in Word and print them
in one document by the end of the lesson!" Most of the pupils felt lost! They had no idea what to do. Then the
teacher started walking around the room and explaining to them what to do step by step. Finally she decided to
write the instructions on the board. "In order to save time you can download two sites in different windows. You
must highlight the text to be able to cut and paste it. When you download the test from the Web it is in Web
format. In order to change the format you have to highlight it and click on Normal. It takes a long time to copy a
page with a lot of graphics and pictures. To save time you can usually find a printer-friendly version". Those
pupils who had a PC at home started working silently while others still didn't exactly know what to do. Now the
teacher collected them around one PC and clicked on the different icons to show their functions. "To see what
the icon means you just have to place the pointer on it. If you wait a second the command will appear right
under the arrow of the mouse. To use a scroll down menu you just click on the arrow pointing down and you can
find the options. This way you can change the font size or character or you can change the format". By the end
of the lesson most pupils understood more or less how to find and download information from the Internet.
2. Dialogues
1. Judy with Mother in the kitchen.
- Mum, do you know what we did in the biology lesson today? We had an Internet class. Now I know what
Frank is always doing when he sends me away from the computer saying he is studying!
- Sounds interesting! What did you actually do?
- We learned how to use search engines and how to download, edit and save texts.
- Are you sure this is what Frank is doing when preparing for his exams?
- Why are you asking? Do you think that I am too small to learn electronically?
- No, of course not. But I think first you must ask him to explain to you what e-learning means before you
start bragging. Anyway what did you actually learn from biology?
- Not much. I spent most of the time cutting and pasting and watching the green window filling up!
- Frank, I told Mum that we had an Internet lesson today and that I finally understood how you were studying
for your exams. But she told me to ask you to explain what e-learning exactly means.
- Judy, what are you talking about again? Don't mix up e-learning with a simple Internet lesson! Look at the
following passage that I have downloaded from the Internet the other day. Perhaps you will understand it -
although it is in English!

3. Reading Comprehension
1. Read the following text carefully, then decide whether the sentences below are true or false.
The 21st-Century Classroom. From the time of the ancient Greeks to the digital economy of the 21st
century, the goal of passing on knowledge and building a better society has stood at the forefront of
civilization. Yet, it's clear that education is now undergoing the most fundamental change in its history:
schools are going digital; e-learning tools are supplementing the classroom; and online discussion groups are
eclipsing study groups. Technology and the Internet are making an indelible imprint on education.
These new tools are changing the landscape...and mindscape. Corporations, universities, and public and
private schools are turning to the Internet and online solutions to improve learning, reduce costs, and manage
the business of education more effectively. In the evolution of education, it's clear that the Internet is a
revolutionary tool. Today, young children in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa are beginning to access the
Internet on a daily basis, and some use PDAs to manage projects and homework. Universities are
increasingly posting coursework online and corporations are turning to e-learning tools to boost knowledge
and skills. In many cases, interactive courseware, portals, and Internet sites allow students of all ages to
monitor their learning and master one topic before moving on to another. At the same time, broadband is
replacing dialup connectivity, and asynchronous learning. Downloading materials and exchanging e-mail is
giving way to real-time collaboration. Increasingly, students are able to view high-quality streaming video,
engage in live discussions using videoconferencing and telephony, view Microsoft PowerPoint slides and
multimedia presentations, and tune in to Webcasts offering audio, video, interactive chat, and other
multimedia capabilities.
Wireless connectivity is also transforming how schools and students communicate. Many universities are
turning to wireless local-area networks (LANs) so that students can access course materials, notes, and other
information anywhere on campus. The capabilities will continue to grow. For instance, a campus using
telephony could also offer advanced directory services. A student could call a library and find out if a book is
