GARMENT COSTING
Basic Categories
Costing includes all the activities like the purchase of fabrics and accessories, processing and finishing of fabrics,
sewing, and packing of garments, transport and conveyance, shipping, overheads, banking charges, and
commissions, etc.
To find out the costing of a garment, the following things should things be calculated:
·Fabric consumption.
·Gross weight of other components of the garment.
·Fabric cost per kg.
·Fabric cost per garment.
·Other charges (print, embroidery, etc).
·Cost of trims (labels, tags, badges, twill tapes, buttons, bows, etc).
·Cost of accessories (hangers, inner boards, polybags, cartons, etc).
·Cost of a garment.
Men’s Basic Polo T-shirt Description:
Men’s Basic T-shirt-short sleeves- 100% Cotton 140 GSM Single jersey – 1 x 1 rib at neck – solid dyed – light,
medium, and dark colors in equal ratio.
Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL Ratio: 1: 2: 2: 2: 1.

Export carton: 7 ply -120 GSM virgin corrugated – seaworthy.


Cartons are to be strapped with 2 nylon straps.

Fabric consumption for polo T-shirts =₹2550 Packaging( Butter paper, label, shider) -
= 2.5kg+8% of 2.5 ₹10
= 2.72kg/DZ Cost of 1 piece size label = ₹0.23 Total = ₹135.4
cost of 5100 pieces of the size label Overhead = 8% of ₹135.4 + 135.4
1kg is cost = ₹400₹ = 0.23*5100 = ₹144.873
= 2.75 kg will cost (2.72*400) = ₹1275 The margin on each T-shirt = ₹50
= 1088
Cost of 1 piece brand label= ₹0.1 Cost of accessories:Polybags: Normal –
Cost of 1 T-shirt = ₹90.6 cost of 5100 pieces Rs 0.30 per garment. Master Polybag:
Cost of 1 Button = ₹0.35*3 = ₹1.05 = 0.1*5100 Rs 2 per master polybags to contain 8
= ₹510 garments – Rs 0.25 per garment.
The total cost of the button Cost of the thread for stitching 1 T- Export carton: Normal: Rs 40 per carton
(15000+300) shirt= ₹0.1 to contain 48 garments – Rs 0.80
= 15300*1.05 Total cost of the thread = ₹510 per garment.
= ₹16065 So the total cost of accessories is Rs 1.35
