In first section there is a simple resistive load. So, when positive half cycle came the diode
become forward bias and in the negative half cycle the diode remain reverse bias and at the
output there is no voltages. We got pulsating dc at the output there is no negative cycle.
In second section when we applied inductive load to the circuit in positive half cycle the
inductor became charge and when negative half cycle came the diode could not be reverse bias
instantly. So, in the negative half cycle the voltage cannot be zero due to the charge of inductor.
And current flow in negative cycle. After some instant of negative cycle, the charge of inductor
became neutralize and diode became reverse biased and output voltage became zero.
In section 2 the output voltage became in negative half cycle for some instant. And output
cannot be pure DC. So, we apply freewheeling diode across the load which is in section 3.
When we applied freewheeling diode in the circuit the charge of inductor neutralized through
this diode. Because freewheeling diode forward biased due to inductor charge and all current
flow through freewheeling diode. And we got pure DC wave form.
In full wave rectification for pure resistive load, we got DC voltages. But when we
apply inductive load the output wave came in negative cycle for some instant and
then positive half cycle came due to the charge of inductor.
When we apply high frequency on general purpose diode the diode remains on in negative half
cycle for some instant. Because due to high frequency the diode cannot be turn off instantly. So,
some part of negative half cycle came in the output. But when we use high frequency diode, we
got only positive half cycle at the output. Because high frequency diode is designed for rapid
switching.
