density D, radius r and surface tension σ. Show dimensionally that T = D r .
σ
29. Obtain an expression for the centripetal acceleration.
30. Show that there are two values of time for a projectile when it is at same height. Also show that
the sum of these two times is equal to the time of flight.
31. Define the term ‘coefficient of limiting friction’ between two surfaces. A body of mass 10 kg is
placed on an inclined surface of angle 300. If the coefficient of limiting friction is 1/3, find the
force required to just push the body up the inclined surface. The force is being applied parallel to
the inclined surface.
32. A machine gun has a mass of 20 kg. It fires 35-gram bullets at the rate of 400 bullets per second
with a speed of 400 metre per second. What force must be applied to the gun to keep it in position.
33. A body of mass 0.3 kg is taken up an inclined plane of length 10 metre and height 5 metre and
then allowed to slide down to the bottom again. The coefficient of friction between the body and
the plane is 0.15.
(a) What is the work done by the gravitational force over the round trip?
(b) Work done by the applied force on the upward journey?
(c) Work done by the frictional force over the round trip?
(d) kinetic energy of the body at the end of the trip?
34. Obtain an expression for acceleration of a ring rolling down an inclined plane without slipping.
35. Discuss how the principle of conservation of momentum is used in launching of rockets. Deduce
an expression for (i) velocity at any instant and (ii) acceleration of the rocket and force
experienced.
36. (a) Discuss elastic collision in one dimension. Obtain expressions for velocities of the two bodies
after such collisions.
(b) A railway carriage of mass 9000 kg moving with a speed of 36 km/h collides with a stationary
carriage of the same mass. After the collision, the two get coupled and move together. What is
the common speed and what type of collision is this?
37. Obtain an expression for torque in cartesian coordinate system.
