Introduction
Why has this book been written? What’s in it For You?
This Book has been written with the Sheer Purpose of helping
every stakeholder or decision maker in the value chain who is
involved in making or renovating a project Space. I founded
Ecoste 10 years ago in 2012 with a vital purpose, the story of
which I will share on the next page.
I don’t even realize how these 10 years flew by, learning each
day from everyone about the product, applications, technicalities
& so much more.
This Book is co-authored with the city’s leading WPC
Expert, who has played an instrumental role in being on the
ground and getting the market feedback—improving product
& service levels.
Thus, we share a common purpose to help you in many
ways, which I will share in this chapter only.
So be with me and get excited!
There are a few sections that have been written by me & a
few Sections are purely written by my dear Co-Author. However,
your focus must not be on who has written what but on what
meaningful learning you can extract from the same.
Introduction i
It’s said, “There is No Coincidence”. Thus, In the same way,
this journey of 10 years did not begin 10 years back but much
before it. Since we will spend multiple hours together, let me
give you a beautiful glimpse of those parts of the story which
would be relevant & meaningful for you.
I completed my B.com (Hons) from Hansraj College, Delhi
University, because I was greatly interested in finance &
management. During those days, I made certain friends who
were in the construction business & they used to take me to
their sites. My fascination for sites, and construction materials
started budding from then.
Post that, one day, I went to college in my third year just
before my exams & I met a very close friend Roshan. He told
me he was going to Cardiff University (Wales, UK) for an MBA
in Marketing & Finance. I, too, started visualizing myself
learning from International teachers, enjoying every bit of a
beautiful country that I had never visited, and started seeing
how Cardiff looked the whole night.
However, going there was not easy, as I faced a hurdle. My
dad was clear about me joining his business and was eagerly
waiting for me to complete my graduation.
This Point bothered me so much that I thought of 100
Different ways to convince him. But, I was skeptical & a little
nervous too about what could be that pitch or a magical
statement I could use that would convince him in a flash.
I finally called Roshan in desperation & he gave me relief
by saying, “I am coming to the house tonight to meet you.”

He landed at home in the evening at 7. My dad also came
home at 7: 30 PM & we all sat in our living area having a
drink. During the conversation, Roshan said, “Uncle, I am
Going to Cardiff for a Short program for one year. I want Ankur
to come too.” He said it so effortlessly that even I was taken
aback.
I looked at Dad’s face and was even more taken aback when
he said, “Ok, beta, as you feel right!” That evening I felt as if
the weight of a mountain had been removed from my head. I
felt so happy; I hugged my dad & thanked him for his decision.
The Moment I entered my university, I saw a vast new
campus where massive construction was going on. The site
looked so big & seeing such a modern, state-of-the-art building
truly mesmerized me. It just blew away my mind. I saw those
materials being used in a way that I had never seen before in
my life.
Aluminum form work construction, brickless construction,
in fall walls OMG! In 2004, a new meaning of construction
was imprinted on my mind.
Every day I used to pass in front of that building & think,
how could I get permission to enter it? It was impossible due
to security reasons. However, Just like your attention and intent
attracted you to this book. My attention and deep intention
got me a reference who managed to get me inside that site for
15 minutes. In one line, I can safely say that one visit truly
inspired a passion for new-age materials for a lifetime!

After Completing My MBA, we had a plot that we bought
& the property prices shot up like anything. Also, in 2007 the
Delhi Government passed a scheme to develop 4 Floors on a
plot.
I proposed to my dad to construct that plot & he agreed.
We started construction & each day, I spent hours learning the
subject from the core. Whenever we stopped after that initial
project and within 3 years, we Built more than 30 apartments
which gave me immense exposure.
In 2011, I did this particular site, and 6 months after its
completion, Mr. Jain, the client, called me one fine evening.
He invited me to his house the following day for a cup of tea.
I went there, and he asked me to come to one of his kids'
bedrooms. What was he up to? He opened the wardrobe & I
could see the small white termite running in the corner of the
wardrobe.
I was terrified to see that happening in less than 6 months
of installation. Since we had given the project fully furnished,
thus it topped up the tension that I would have to replace it.
I had 2 choices open to me to make at that time:
1. The first choice was easy; I could stand firm and say
that I had used what I had promised to operate in terms
of branded plywood, laminate & adhesives.
OR
2. The Expensive One: I will replace it at my cost.

I chose and committed to the 2nd one without even thinking
twice. However, I asked myself 1 crucial question:
"What guarantees it won't happen again even using any
other branded conventional material?"
This question kept on flipping & tossing through my mind
for a couple of days, and I kept my attention there & again. I
found a person named Rajeev who came to another of my sites
and showed me a small plastic sample & demonstrated it as
being a complete substitute for plywood. I could not believe
how a polymer-based product could replace nature-based
plywood. However, my old site visit on campus helped me
overcome the objection, which was self-created.
Thus, I placed with him an order of a few Sheets to make
a wardrobe. The other major unexpected hurdle besides my
mindset was the unexpected resistance from my own Purana
carpenter. It was a considerable task to convince him. OMG!
He was like, "I haven't worked with this & how can it replace
a ply or board? I don't have the tools for it..." and whatnot
what not… His face showed 101 reasons not to work on it.
However, it was a success unlike what he had expected,
making me research this material. That night, I thought this
big problem across the country needed to be solved. Every
consumer faces issues of dampness, termite, borer, expansion-
contraction, delamination, swelling & many more at least once
or twice in their lifetime.
Thus, this became a strong purpose for working on this
problem. That is how the seed of this new material, Wood
Polymer Composite (WPC), was conceived in my mind….

We started manufacturing with 1 extrusion line in 2012
with practically zero knowledge of sales, marketing, market, or
product. However, the problem to be solved was obvious in my
head.

recently & In crux; there are 2 Primary reasons we have authored
this Book.

The WPC Industry was Started in India in 2011. Ecoste
was one of the leading first few manufacturers to enter the
industry. When We entered the industry, it was absolutely a
new concept & no stakeholder or decision maker was aware of
the product, application, or technicalities.
We struggled severely for a couple of years as physically
educating carpenters and dealers was draining, and the acceptance
was significantly less. There was no acceptance by the architects
& project decision makers as we had no past performance or
results to showcase. Thus, our goal was to reach the end
consumer and strip off objections at much less cost.
We chose to go digital by making one video & post, and
then we never looked back. Today we have over 200+ videos
showcasing different applications, technical aspects of the
product, and functionalities of the same. If You are serious

In 2018, we got an enquiry from M.P.Police Housing &
they had a requirement of frames in wood but were searching
for alternatives. They tried to call several vendors of FRP, M.S,
LVL & Other materials, but still were not satisfied… We Went
there & gave them a presentation. The Chief Engineer there
was Mr. Sanjay Rana. He attended the presentation along with
the officials & helped us to get the first approval letter for our
brand. The journey started from there & post that, and we tried
to take approvals from other Police Housing in other states like
Telangana & Andhra Pradesh.
This journey, from one department to another at the state
level, was good, but we realized that it would take years to scale
the game. The purpose was when the global industry is growing,
how can the Growth of WPC in India be accelerated to outpace
any other in the world.
I remember I had to visit a government building with my
CA, & the condition of that building was pathetic, and it
demanded long overdue maintenance. I Was waiting for my CA
in the canteen & that’s when I asked myself a simple yet powerful
question.

I enrolled a few of the industry members along & we gave

a presentation to the officials of the CPWD to get the WPC
product enlisted in the Daily Schedule of Rates (DSR), which
is like the Bible for any construction happening in the majority
of departments across the country.

Post that, it was history. I remember it took precisely 41
days from the start to getting the product enlisted in DSR of
CPWD on 5th July 2019. In the Last 4 Years, we have been
able to serve 500 (and still counting) projects across the country
from diverse departments. As per the data, in more than 1500
government projects, WPC has been proposed following the
DSR. This has made it super easy for the engineers to take the
specs & recommendations.
We are confident that the day is not far when no conventional

material will be used in any government building. It will save

there exists a choice of Plywood (LVL), Metal, Cement, FRP
(Fiber reinforced Plastic) & Stone frames (popularly used in
Rajasthan).

Choosing the right product for your application is extremely

there is a budget constraint. The Most Adopted Section is 75
by 45 and 75 by 50 MM. However, to make the bedroom and
toilet frame look the same aesthetically, they recommend 100
by 60 or 100 by 63.5 MM. Thus, it depends on how much
budget you want to invest. However, from the angle of
functionality, there is no challenge.

toilet frames), The most common running section is 100 by 60
MM or 100 by 63.5 MM. The other section, which is most
prevalent for 150MM Wall thickness, is 100 by 60, which is

do add beading for aesthetics.

in India primarily uses Chinese extrusion machines when we
talk about extrusion. There is nothing terrible in that. However,
Italian technology uses a similar screw barrel technology instead
of conical technology. So, why is it essential for you?
The parallel screw barrel is double the span in terms of
length, which allows the polymer, fibres & additives to get
blended homogeneously. It also allows more natural fibres, which
will be covered in the next section.

& there used to be no separate 6 MM core layer on all the 6
outer sides of the frame.

What does this layer do? It allows the screw to get 2 rigid

dealer gets a significant margin on the same, so this is pitched

3. The Right Composition
The composition of any product is of utmost importance as it
impacts all its properties and functionality. It is common
knowledge that the final output/result is always dependent on
the input, be it a process or a consequence.
The famous principle of GIGO says Garbage in-Garbage
Out; it basically means what you give is what you get.
So it is with the composition of WPC. The right product
must have all 15 odd components in proportion and quality.
Of all the components, there are four that majorly impact the
composition; these are PVC, Fillers, Fibers & Additives.
For the composition to be ideal, the PVC used should be
virgin PVC; however, as we discussed earlier, due to unhealthy
competition, most manufacturers use recycled PVC to cut costs.
So, don't forget to check whether your product has virgin
or recycled PVC.

A product Made with Virgin Polymers would always be
Beige to Brown in colour & will not have a plastic look from
the outer surface.
A product made with recycled Polymer, would always be
different colors as standard PVC, which is white in color isn't
added. The regrind PVC is half the cost and is available in
different colors. Generally, manufacturers add Brown or Black
Pigment to make the final finished product. It looks like this:

Then let's talk about the fillers. The fillers are nothing but
Calcium Carbonate, sourced majorly from Rajasthan. Still, as
the name suggests, these are to be used as fillers in combination
with PVC in 50-70% to give strength and dimensional capability
to the product.
However, in a bid to win the price war, this proportion is
being abused, and a majority of products have a shocking 150%
proportion of fillers. This directly impacts the cell structure
affecting the screw withdrawal strength of the product.

So always question and check the proportion of fillers when
choosing a WPC solution for door frames.
The Next important component is Natural Fibers, which
also play a significant role in the product's dimensional stability.
The Natural Fiber is Wood Fiber or Rice Husk Fiber. Hardly
any manufacturer uses Wood Fiber because it impacts the long-
running machines being a dry Substrate. Moreover, on the
Chinese machines, the natural fibre can be used in a tiny
percentage, say 5% max.
Manufacturers also avoid that to save cost by running a
single run for the long run. Thus, Natural Fibers must be used
to the tune of 15 to 30% minimum for the product's overall
strength.
Finally comes the Additives; this component is also being
tampered with majorly to outdo each other in prices without
realizing the consequences and the severe loss and damage to
the customer.
Most manufacturers use less than the required quantity of
additives which directly impacts all the product properties in
the short and long run.
All that we have shared with you in this section will help
you ensure that you choose a product with a suitable composition.
Now, you must have understood the role of composition in
getting the right finished product. Moreover, one point is that
despite the same standard composition being used, the final
product has variations in quality which impact the final physical
finish of the product. This happens due to the compounding
process.

When the compounding is done with manual mixers, in
that case, the variation in composition is there due to certain
unseen process parameterparameters changes which occur.

4. The Right Properties
The properties of the WPC solution you are choosing play a
critical role in its performance. These properties are:
The standards for Physical & Mechanical Properties for these
are given in the table below.
Physical Properties
Let's begin with the physical properties. Some of these

physical properties will be visible to you on examination of the
product yourself, like the colour of the product. If your product
has been manufactured properly, it should be a consistent Beige
in colorcolour.
No matter how much a dealer pushes a product that is grey,
brown, reddish etc., as unique, please know that any such
deviation from Beige means your product is substandard in
quality.

You should also make sure that you examine the external
cell structure of the product before zeroing down on it. If your
product has been manufactured with the right process and
composition, it should have a 7MM thick layer of protection
called the Duracap on all sides. This layer should be rigid and
smooth. This layer is meant to enhance the Screw holding and
screw withdrawal strength of the product, which is essential for
door frames.
While comparing products, if you find this layer of
encapsulation missing on other products, it would be best for
your dream outcomes if you stayed away from such products.
Other physical properties you should check, compare and
verify would be thickness, tolerance and edge squareness.
Mechanical Properties
The most critical mechanical property to verify when choosing
a WPC solution would be the crew withdrawal capacity/strength
measured in newtons.
In simpler terms, this means you should know whether a
screw, once inserted in your chosen product for hanging up the
door, can be taken out and re-screwed 10-15 times without
impacting its safety, hold and strength.

The WPC product is super easy when it comes to workability.
Most probably, in every city, now you will find the carpenters
and contractors who must have worked prior on WPC frames.,

It is Simple. Because there is no special tool, machine or
technique required regarding workability on WPC frames.

Now, when it comes to installation, this is a general question

which gets asked, at what stage should we use WPC frames? It
Purely depends on the type of construction & your choice.
The product can be used at every stage of the product,
whether when the civil masonry product is going on. Also, it
can be used at the later stage when the complete finishing is
done post POP prior final coat of paint. The product will indeed
not become a constraint.
These days, civil construction has transformed from
conventional to Mivan (aluminum formwork technology). In
Mivan, it must be used at the last stage, just before the previous
coat of paint and post-flooring.

However, in the conventional methodology of civil
construction, it can be used at any stage, as told prior.
Now, what is the difference between both stages? The
Assembling will remain the same. The only difference will be
the hardware. The hardware used at the civil construction stage
will be holdfast & fasteners will be used in the post-construction
stage.

mistake & then regretting it.
6. The Right Surface Treatment

When it comes to getting the final aesthetics or look of the
product, there are specific points which are essential for the
consumer to know & take an informed decision. Many people
ask, "Would the natural grain come on this just like wood?
There are 2 answers to this question:
• The product as a substrate differs from the natural
product, which has knots and grains, just like wood
logs. That won't be there because the composition is
different.
• However, you don't need to worry if that is becoming
a constraint for you because, through surface treatment,
that can be achieved.
Remember that you cannot paste laminate on the frame
when getting the desired finish to match the door's finish.
However, paint and polish can attain any solid colour or specific

finish. Even through hand painting, the wooden finish in any
colour can be achieved. There are certain do and don'ts you
must know before the stage of surface treatment.
Even if it's a commercial application like a factory, the frames
can be kept in the original factory finish with no additional
surface treatment over and above it.

7. The Right Value Engineering

When it comes to getting the maximum value out of the
WPC frame solution, there can be 2 baselines on which you
are making your decision.
It would depend on whether in your mind you are comparing
WPC vs other conventional wooden frames.. Or are you still

Regrind with virgin PVC to cut costs.

Then let's talk about the fillers. The fillers are nothing but
Calcium Carbonate, sourced majorly from Rajasthan. Still, as
the name suggests, these are to be used as fillers in combination
with PVC in 50-60% to give strength and dimensional stability
to the product. However, in a bid to win the price war, this
proportion is being abused, and a majority of products have a
shocking 100-150% proportion of fillers. This directly impacts
the cell structure affecting the screw withdrawal strength of the

So always question and check the proportion of fillers when

The Next important component is Natural Fibers, which
also play a great role in the product's dimensional stability. The
Natural Fiber is Wood Fiber or Rice husk Fiber. Hardly Any
manufacturer uses Wood Fiber because it impacts the long-
running machines being dry in nature substrate. Moreover, the
natural fibre can be used in a tiny percentage on the Chinese
machine, say 5% Max. Manufacturers also avoid that to save
cost by running a single run for the long run. Thus, Natural
Fibers Must be used to the tune of 30-40% Minimum for the
product's overall strength.
The manufacturers generally use Ivory, Yellow & Brown
Pigment to attain a similar outer look of the door. However,
the product's physical properties get impacted when you try to
replace the Natural Fibers with Pigments.
In Short, they are nothing BUT Cheap Calcium Based PVC
Solid Doors and are useless for the application.

Now, when it comes to workability, the most important
factor where carpenters go wrong is that they stack the doors
against the wall. The doors, being polymer based in nature, start
taking a curvature. Thus, doors must be stacked on a plain,
level floor, checking the zero water level. Besides this, in terms
of workability, there is nothing different when working on WPC
or any other substrate. It's just the same.
Calculation of sizes of doors is also necessary when you
place the door order, as you have to keep in mind the sizes post
installation of the frames. Keep a 10 MM margin, so it can be
shaved off at the site if there is any undulation.
The best part is that a minor reduction of the sizes can be
made quickly with everyday conventional tools.
Hardware: The hardware won't become a fuss for you, or
your architect won't have to compromise choosing the WPC
Doors. When it comes to hardware, the similar hardware which
you had in mind for any other solution can be used with WPC
doors with even more ease of installation.
Just be sure that some hardware requires a certain thickness
specifically. For Eg: A cylinder lock can be fitted in a 24 MM
door & a door lock requires 30MM & certain fixtures require
up to 35MM. Your architect will take care of this. This
information is here as a double-check measure to ensure you
make an informed decision so there is no rework for you.
Just keep in mind that we recommend 4 hinges as per the
drawing. Preferably Use SS 304 hinges instead of MS as they
would rot quickly in dampness.

Installation: When it comes to installation, it must be
installed at the dry stage, at the finish, and at the last stage post
its surface treatment. The reason is simple, to keep the finish
of the surface treatment intact. In the case of polish or paint
as a surface treatment choice, the last buffing or coating will
occur at the last stage, after being hung on frames.

The goal is clear & simple. To choose & get a similar finish on
the frame & the door…Similarly, paint and polish can attain
any solid colour or specific finish. A wooden finish in any colour
can also be achieved through hand painting. You must know
certain dos and don'ts before reaching the surface treatment
stage.
What kind of paint can be used?
Duco, Melamine, PU, and Acrylic Latex are all usable. Don't
Use Polyester or Enamel Based Wall Paints. Moreover, any finish
like Matt, Gloss, or High Gloss can be easily attained.
Even plain doors can be done with CNC & post so that
any paint and polish in any colour and finish can be attained.
Point to remember: Always do ANY surface treatment on
both sides of the door. The mistake initially in the early years
of painters was that they painted on one side & they observed
slight bending as it developed tension. Thus, always paint or
polish on both sides.
You can also paste laminate, but PVC-based laminate can
be pasted instead of paper-based laminate (Which we know as
Mica)..the Reason is that it's been 10 years, but still, the exact
adhesive is under research. Pidilite & many other companies

have launched their products, but issues come about adhesive
while the season changes.
The PVC laminate, a PVC-based product, develops a cross-
linking polymerization & bonds well with PVC solvent cement
(Adhesive) with WPC doors.
Even if it is a commercial application like a factory, the
doors can be kept in the original factory finish with no additional
surface treatment over and above.
How to treat the edges of the doors?
The edge banding can be done on edge banding machines if
you get help from any OEM. However, if you are getting it
treated at the site, then edge banding available in the market
can be easily pasted with PVC solvent cement.
The rest of the complete details are mentioned in the dos

When it comes to getting the maximum value out of the WPC
door solutions, there can be 2 baselines to make your decision…
Let's say you are comparing the WPC Door vs Conventional
Flush Door solution. Then, the product cost will undoubtedly
differ, which we will explain in a moment. However, the labour
& surface treatment would either cost you similar or maybe a
little less.
A decent conventional flush door of 30 MM would cost
you nothing less than 120 Rs Sq ft & a WPC Door of 30 MM
would cost you 200 Sqft.

Now, it may seem that it's more than 1.6 times the cost of
the base product. However, if you feel spending a few extra %
seems to you an additional cost, then I have 2 points of
consideration for you.
Let me give an example. On average, in a 3 BHK, hardly
there is 12-15 Door & each door is 7 feet by 3 feet max, then
considering 21 sq feet, the maximum consumption of doors
would be 350 Sqft.

would require to take them off, again re-do them by investing
in the right product later, call a masonry worker, carpenter,
painter etc. Why do you want to undergo such pain,
inconvenience, and financial loss?

short and long run, considering the substantial lifetime

extreme sunlight, making them more prone to termite, borer,

A window is a vented barrier provided in a wall opening to
admit light and air into the structure and give an outside view.
Windows also increase the beauty of the building. Many types

of windows are available based on their positions, materials, and
functioning. Windows are classified into the following categories
mentioned below:
Fixed Window: Fixed windows are fixed to the wall without
closing or opening. In general, they are provided to transmit
the light into the room. Fully glazed shutters are fixed to the
window frame. A picture is attached below. This can completely
be made in WPC & concern on how to bend the top part is
covered in workability.

Casement Windows: Casement windows are the most widely

used and common windows nowadays. The shutters are attached
to the frame, and these can be opened and closed like door
shutters. Rebates are provided to the frame to receive the shutters.
The panels of shutters may be single or multiple. Sometimes
wired mesh is provided to stop flies from entering.

Corner Windows: As in the name itself, corner windows

are provided at the corners of the room. That means corner
windows have two faces in perpendicular directions. With this

criteria. If the window is to be used for the internal toilets or
kitchen, then a small section like a 3 by 2 Inch profile can also
be used.
Moreover, if a double shutter window (One with Glass &
other with a Net for Ventilation) is required in the same
application, then a 4 by 2-inch Profile will be better.
Now for Fixed Large Sized Glazed windows with no openable
shutter, a 4 by 2.5 Inch Profile will work. Moreover, for the
Double-sided Shutter Windows, 5 by 2.5 Double rebate or 6
by 2.5 Inch Double rebate windows will be Used. The choice
is made by seeing the budget & Aesthetics in mind 2 of them.
Construction of the Window: There are specific components
used in window construction with WPC. Let's understand them
one by one:

to be installed, then certainly the double rebate head jamb &
side frames to be used instead of single rebate frames. The
mullion has to be 4 sides rebated for the same. The profile will
be 125 by 63.5 MM with a double side rebate. However, the
shutter used will be 30 by 72 MM fixed with glass or net.

The WPC Window product is super easy when it comes to
workability. Most Probably, in every city, you will find carpenters
and contractors who must have worked before WPC Window

Simple…because bcoz there is no special tool, machine or
technique required regarding workability on WPC Window
Frames.
In workability, the rebating, for making a frame compatible
with a double side shutter window, you need to request the
factory to get the same at work. However, if you buy from an
authorized dealer, they can do it at their workshop, or your
carpenter can do it at the site. The rebating process remains the
same as a carpenter does in wooden window frames. We will

also be launching both sides pre rebated products very soon.

In the workability of windows, the carpenter must bend the
window head frame if the arch has to be created. This can be
done easily in a WPC Window frame with a hot air gun using
the clips as it is a polymer-based product.
As far as the right joinery is concerned, multiple types of
joints can be seen below. Out of these joints, the Mitre joint is
used most popularly in window construction. However, other
joineries can also be done if the machines are available at the
workshop.
Nailing is one thing a lot of carpenters are used to while
constructing wooden window frames. However, we recommend
screwing instead of nailing. It is simple because it is a
homogeneous blended product and not a layer-based fibrous
product.
Is any Adhesive required for Joineries?
Yes, solvent cement of any brand can be used…Don't use Fevicol
or any other water-based adhesive. Even if the adhesive isn't
used, it will work, but adding a few drops of solvent cement as
a layer of adhesive will bond it very fast.

This is a very common question when it comes to installation.
At what stage should we use WPC window frames?
It purely depends on the type of construction & your
choice.
The product can be used at every stage of the product, even
when the civil masonry is going on. Also, it can be used later
when the complete finishing is done post POP, before the final
coat of paint. The product will indeed not become a constraint.
These days, civil construction has transformed from
conventional to mivan (aluminum formwork technology). In
mivan, it must be used at the last stage, just before the last coat
of paint and post flooring.
However, in the conventional methodology of civil
construction, it can be used at any stage, as told prior.

Now, what is the difference between both stages? The
assembling will remain the same. The only difference will be
the hardware. The hardware used at the civil construction stage
will be holdfast & fasteners. It will be used in the post-
construction stage.
Hardware. Now when it comes to hardware, the same
hardware can be used in door frames. Moreover, hardware like
mosquito nets, glass, or sealants would be similar to those used
in wooden window frame solutions.

As mentioned, this section remains similar to the one on

One crucial point is that since the windows are always
exposed to exteriors, the main thing that must be kept in mind
is the choice of paint or polish which also gives longevity, just
like the base solution.
The Duco Paint won't be the right choice for the windows.
The Enamel based paint won't work well on window frames
too.
However, Acrylic latex paint can be a good choice. Even
the Solvent-based Paint, of which we have done trials & have
worked very well, is of IMPA (Best Company Manufacturing
Paints for Plastic Surfaces).

When it comes to getting the maximum value out of the WPC
frame solution, there can be 2 Baselines on which you are
making your decision…
It would depend on whether you are comparing WPC with
other conventional wooden frames or you are comparing WPC
with new-age modern products like UPVC or Aluminum
windows.
Let's say you compare the WPC Window solution to the
wooden window solution. Then, you must take into account
the product cost & additional costs above it.
Thus, the cost comparison demonstrates that if you compare

only the product cost, it won't be correct for you to make an
informed decision. Moreover, if you feel spending an extra few
per centper cent seems to you an additional cost, then I have
2 points of consideration for you
Let me give an example. On average, in a 3 BHK, there are

Then considering 49 feet, the maximum consumption of the
structure would be 300 Square Ft at max.

& dust proofing, which come in a wooden frame solution.
Indeed, from the functional point of view, if you are looking
for a sliding window solution, then UPVC & Aluminum would
be better.
However, when you are looking for the interior door opening
to match with the window solution, UPVC would be white &
that would be in wooden grain, which generally gets better.
Thus, if you are looking for a strong resonance of window and
door opening to go together, then WPC for door opening &
window opening would be a great choice.
Regarding cost difference, the UPVC & aluminum windows
are an expensive option which is about 20-40% more expensive
than WPC windows, depending on your chosen brand.

someone shifts from the conventional material to new-age
material, they are trying to solve certain problems they have
faced, or their near ones have met.

Choosing the right product for your application is crucial for
having the desired outcomes with your Boards. Choosing a
product based on the right density and thickness is essential.
lifetime of sturdy boards is 550, 650 & 750 kg/m3. But beware,
the market is flooded with 350-520 kg/m3 products being
pushed and presented as the ideal product for the Boards.
Therefore, be proactive and check the product density you are
investing in.
Now, how will you choose density?
We have observed consumers or carpenters choosing the
wrong product. Where do they go wrong??
They choose either less or more than the required density
in the application where it isn't needed & the right thickness
too. The general thicknesses available in the market are 5 MM
to 25MM.

Thus, we will let you strike the right balance between density,
thickness & application.

Wardrobes: In the Wardrobe, there are 5 critical components.
The backer ply (the back side, which is adjacent to the wall but
is critical as it is exposed to maximum risk), sides, shelf,
headboard & shutter.
The backer ply can be 5 MM & 6 MM. This is exposed

to the risk of termite, borer & dampness attacks. It can be in
a density of 650 kg/m3 & even 550 kg/m3 can be used. Both
can be used; however, 650 kg/m3 would be better.

The sides ply must be 18 MM & must be 650 kg/m3
The shelf is a critical part where in the initial days, carpenters
made a mistake in wardrobe construction & due to which
rumours for bedding happened in the WPC board shelves. The
horizontal shelf up to 2 ft is not challenging even if 550 Kg/
Cm3 is used. However, if the shelf width is 3 ft or 4 ft, then
it's always better to use a vertical member of WPC to divide
the width span. However, the aluminum profile can also be
used with the shelf board having a density of 650 kg/m3. In
the drawer board, 12 MM can be used with a thickness of 650
kg/m3. The headboard must be 18MM with a density of 650
kg/m3.
The shutter is the most critical component of the whole
wardrobe. Now, it's essential to understand its criticality. The
shutter must be used in a width of 18 mm, if the width is 2 ft
or less, with a density of 650 kg/m3. Now, if the width is 3 ft
or 4 with the shutter sliding, the shutter must be 25 MM with
a density of 750 kg/m3.
However, the surface treatment of the shutter is also essential
to understand.
Kitchen: In the Kitchen, the wall cabinet & base cabinet
are 2 important parts. Similarly, as in the wardrobe, the side
panel & shelf also must be 18MM with a density of 650 kg/
m3. If the shelf is 2 ft, then a vertical member is not required.
However, if the width is 3 ft, then 18 MM, 650kg/m3 must
be used. Now, if you are clear that the weight which has to
come on the shelf is not too heavy, then a glass shelf can also

be used instead of a WPC Shelf. The backboard can be 8 MM
with a Density of 550 kg/m3. The shutter must be 18 MM in
density and 650 kg/m3.
Bathroom Vanities: The bathroom vanities have 3

components, a side panel, a backer ply & the shutter. The backer
ply could be 8MM in 550 kg/m3 & the shutter in 15 MM in
a density of 550 kg/m3, with the side panel in a density of 550
kg/m3.
Wall Paneling: Vertical wall paneling in WPC boards is
certainly possible. The thickness we recommend is 12MM or
15 MM with a density of 550kg/m3. The surface treatment is
also essential, covered in the section ahead.
Ceilings: The plain ceiling or 2 by 2 T Grid ceiling can be
made in 5 MM with a density of 550 kg/m3.

both sides. Initially, the mistake in painters' early years was that
they painted on one side & they observed slight bending as it
developed tension. Thus, always paint or polish on both sides.

You can also paste laminate, but PVC-based laminate can
be pasted instead of paper-based laminate (Which we know as
Mica). The Reason is that it's been 10 years, but still, the exact
adhesive is under research. Pidilite & many other companies
have launched their products, but issues do come about adhesive
while the season changes.
The PVC laminate, a PVC-based product, develops a cross-
linking polymerization & bonds well with PVC solvent cement
(Adhesive) with WPC doors.
The lacquered glass, a very heavy substrate, must be pasted
with a silicon sealant like Stixall. It must be used along with
the straighteners advised earlier.
Even if it's a commercial application like a factory, the boards
can be kept in the original factory finish with no additional
surface treatment over and above it.
How to Treat the Edges of the Boards?
The edge banding can be done on edge banding machines if
you get help from any OEM. However, if you are getting it
treated at the site, then edge banding available in the market
can be easily pasted with PVC solvent cement.
The rest of the complete details are mentioned in the dos

Value engineering is a very crucial decision as a lot of decision
makers make a decision that they regret later. Now when You
compare, it can be done on 2 baselines. One is the comparison
to conventional substrates & another is compared to substandard
Inferior Quality WPC Boards.

When you compare WPC boards to any conventional
Plywood, there are many cons in terms of physical properties
of being prone to get attacked by termite, borer & dampness.
Thus, this has been the primary reason for the rapid success of
this product across the country.
When you take any well-branded plywood & compare the
same to a good recommended dense product of a good brand,
there would certainly be no difference in cost. However, the
primary advantage of choosing a WPC board is that it can be
directly used without any lamination, unlike in plywood
(Especially in boxes of Kitchen & Wardrobes). Thus, you save
money on lamination, adhesives & labor costs. Not just this,
you also eliminate the risk of delamination, which happens on
plywood.
Now, compared to HDHMR boards, they are about 30%
cheaper. However, they are claimed to be 100% water resistant,
but they are not. Thus, the whole purpose gets defeated.

the board, which means the board serves as an input to produce

a product based on the right density and thickness is essential.
lifetime of sturdy boards is 550 & 650 Kg/Cm3. But beware,
the market is flooded with 350-520 Kg/Cm3 products being
pushed and presented as the ideal product for the boards;
therefore, be proactive and check the density of the product
you are investing in.
Now, how will you choose density? We have observed
consumers or applicators are selecting the wrong product. Where
do they go wrong?
They choose either less or more than the required density
in the application where it isn't needed & the right thickness
too. The general thickness used for the grille varies from 5 MM
to 30 MM depending on whether it is being used in interiors
or exteriors. Thus, striking the right balance is very important.
In interior applications, striking the right balance between
density, thickness, dimensions & application is essential.

Interior Applications: In the Interior Applications, there are
majorly 4 types of applications mentioned below:

Ceilings: In-ceiling application, 6 MM thickness is the right
choice, provided the span in terms of width and length is less
than 4 by 4 feet. However, if the span is 8 by 4 ft, then 12
MM could be a better fit. The density recommended is 550
kg/m3.
Wall Paneling & Furniture: In-wall panelling application,
12MM thickness, is the right choice for any span up to 8 by
4 ft. The density recommended is 550 kg/m3.
Interior Screening & Partitioning: In this application,
18MM thickness is the right choice for any span up to 8 by 4
ft. The density recommended is 650 g/m3.
In Exteriors Application, striking the right balance between
density, thickness, dimensions & application & altitude is
essential.

In Exterior Application, the Dimension & Altitude plays a
vital role in conjunction with density & thickness too…
Exterior Applications: In exterior application, 18MM must
be used for the shaft or the elevation facades. It must be used
in 650 kg/m3 if the span size is 4 ft by 8 ft. However, if the
shaft is small, let's say 3 by 3 ft or 2 by 4 ft, then ana 18 MM
with 550kg/m3 density also works. Moreover, when it has to
be used in a high-rise apartment where the wind pressure is
very high & it has to be applied above the 10th floor, then a
density of 650 Kg/cm3 in thickness of 18MM must be used.

As Said Prior, This Section remains Similar to WPC Board

Moreover, one thing is additional to understand when it
comes to the composition, as the grille is the product which
has extensive use in exteriors, majorly for diverse applications.
Thus, there is one fact you need to understand as to when you
will go to purchase the same.
You would have 2 options. Either you will go to your nearby
local plywood shop, or you will find a CNC router machine
shop near you. The main point of concern is since it is a value-
added product & they aren't aware of the criticality of the
product & application; thus, it is observed that to get more
margins, the high filler product is being pushed. This Kind of
high filler product would have multiple challenges.
If used in the interior, it would bend & do the Surface
treatment would be a massive challenge as the cell structure is
terrible when the calcium filler is high. If used in exteriors, it
will pale and develop yellow patches after the product is not
UV-treated. Secondly, doing surface treatment to match the
core & surface would be a huge challenge.

5. The Right Workability & Installation

Workability: The WPC board is super easy when it comes to
workability. In every city, you will probably find carpenters and
contractors who must have previously worked on WPC window
frames. However, still, if you don’t find one, ask our authorized
dealer for help. Now, if you don’t find it, don’t worry. It’s not
rocket science.

Simple. Because no special tool, machine or technique is
required when it comes to workability on the WPC board.

One thing you need to remember is that before placing the

order to the dealer or the company, the size & the total quantity
play an essential role. If the quantity is small, like 500 Sq ft,
then it is advisable to search for a dealer or CNC router near
you to get the grille near you. If the quantity is largerbigger
than that & the sizes are not standard 8 by 4 ft., Then, in that
case, the wastage will be high. Thus, to avoid that, an enquiry
can be placed directly with the company to help you with the
exact measurements being made for you. Taking the sizes can
easily be done by any ACP (aluminum composite sheet)
applicator or facade applicator, and any carpenter can do it in
case of interior grille installation.

While installing, a 4MM gap must be kept for the walls for
expansion & contraction.
6. The right surface treatment

Surface treatment is not a challenge with the WPC grille.
Whatever you can think, you can attain. It is possible to attain
any solid color or specific finish with paint and polish. Certain

and interiors.

consumers have kept the grille in white color.
However, if you want to Paint the Exterior, then the Specific

a guarantee for Non-Fading & peeling, or any patch will not
get developed. Moreover, Acrylic latex paint also can be used
in exteriors.
In Interiors, if you want to glam up your grille with any
colour matching the interiors, it won't be a constraint. In
Interiors, they are more options. Any Duco, melamine, or PU
Paint can be applied without hassle.

solution, the metal solution will undoubtedly be at least 30-40%
cheaper, but the aesthetics get compromised. It can be a standard
louvre look which surely can not match the aesthetics your
dream project deserves.
Now when we compare the concrete grills & WPC Grille
solutions, they certainly have many associated cons, like their
3X Weight & being Easily breakable & Low Aesthetic Value.
The Cost difference is about 30% less compared to the WPC
Grilles Solution.
