 1. NEPLAN 360 – Student/Demo Version Limitation
The NEPLAN 360 student/demo version is a very much simplified version of the original NEPLAN
360 application, but on the other hand very simple to use without too much learning effort. This
document describes the restrictions of the free NEPLAN 360 Student/demo version compared to
the full NEPLAN 360 version.
Many calculation modules (e.g. ArcFlash, Protection, OPF, Risk Based Analysis, Asset Simulation)
and many elements and models (e.g. DC and SmartGrid models, HVDC, PWM, etc.) are not included
in this demo version. Also the models, which are included are simplified (e.g. transformer and line
models). The very extensive libraries are not included in NEPLAN 360 – Student. Import/export
(e.g. to GIS, SCADA, ENTSO-E CIM, PSS/E) are not included. The graphical editor (GUI) has also
limitations (e.g. splitting lines, adding graphic layers, etc. is not possible)
However, NEPLAN 360 – Student allows very quickly to build network examples with mostly used
power system components and run basic load flow and short circuit analysis as well as dynamic
simulations (transient stability).
The student/demo version has a size limitation of 15 nodes.
The student/demo version has a size limitation of 10 projects.
The student/demo version allows not to store data in the server database (SQL-Server, Oracle),
that means the student/demo version can only work file oriented. The NEPLAN 360 data have to
be stored locally in *.nep360 project files.
Also the Online-Help is not included.

2. Overview of differences of NEPLAN 360-Student with

original NEPLAN 360

the complete NEPLAN 360 but are not available in the NEPLAN 360 student/demo version

2.2 Library-Manager and extensive Libraries
The library manager and the extensive NEPLAN libraries (with thousands of models) are
not included. The symbol editor is also not included.

2.3 Geographic diagrams and maps
In the demo/student version only schematic drawings are allowed. Geographic drawings
with background maps are only supported in the full version.

2.4 Not supported function in the Graphical Editor (GUI)

Many functions in the graphical editor are not enabled e.g.:

- splitting of lines
- changing symbol
- working with graphic layers
- background coloring
- working multiple different diagrams
- path search algorithm
- building and showing different network hierarchies (e.g. geographical areas, regions,
etc.)
- adding substations with bays including protection, circuit breakers and switches
- working without graphical representation of elements
- interfacing with google map
- working with scripts
- appendixes
- …and much more…

2.5 Not supported elements/models
The available elements/models in the demo/student version is very much reduced.
Also the included models have restricted functionalities (e.g. transformer or line/cable
model), in order to keep it simple. But many networks (also from literature or IEC and
IEEE) can already build up with this reduced model set.

2.6 Dynamic Models not included in NEPLAN 360 –Student
The interactive block diagram editor for regulators is not included.
There are only a few dynamic standard models (exciters, turbines/governors, PSS, limiters,
HVDC controllers, etc.) included in the regulator library for demo purposes.
The performance of the dynamic simulator is quite slower than the one in the full version.

2.9 Operational Data Manager

The operational data manager is not included in NEPLAN 360 –Student. Operating data
(e.g. P and Q of loads) can easily be managed here.

2.10 Measurements and Load Allocation

Measured data (e.g. from SCADA) cannot be imported and included in NEPLAN 360 –
Student and also the load allocation module is not included.

2.11 Scenario Manager

The Scenario Manager is not included in NEPLAN 360 –Student. It allows easy to include
new scenarios (variants) and find the best possible technical and financial solution.

2.12 Report Generator

NEPLAN 360 allows you to generate and define your own reports and save it to Word or
PDF file. This option is not available in NEPLAN 360- Student.

2.13 Simulation and Analysis Modules
In the NEPLAN 360 –Student version are only the modules Load Flow, Short Circuit and
Dynamic Simulation in DQ0 mode supported. But not all functionalities of these modules
are included in the Student/Demo version (e.g. no transient stability in ABC, no EMT
simulation, no special fault in short circuit calculation, no PDF and sensitivity calculation in
load flow etc.)

accurate superposition method. Special faults can be defined (e.g. more than one fault at

2.17 NEPLAN 360 Data Management

The full NEPLAN 360 stores the data on the server in a SQL Server database.
The student/demo version allows storing data up to 10 projects on the server.

analysis models (e.g. AC 1-Phase, AC 3-Phase, DC , SmartGrid, Renewable Energies
