BRAZILIAN AIRWORTHINESS

DIRECTIVE

The following Airworthiness Directive (AD), issued by the Departamento de Aviação Civil (DAC) in
accordance with provisions of Chapter IV, Title III of Código Brasileiro de Aeronáutica - Law No. 7,565
dated 19 December 1986 - and Regulamento Brasileiro de Homologação Aeronáutica (RBHA) 39, applies to all
aircraft registered in the Registro Aeronáutico Brasileiro. No person may operate an aircraft to which
this AD applies, unless it has previously complied with the requirements established herein.

AD No. 2002-03-01R3 - EMBRAER - Amendment 39-1059.


APPLICABILITY:
This Airworthiness Directive is applicable to Embraer EMB-145( ) and
EMB-135( ) aircraft of serial numbers 145002 thru 145373, 145375, 145377 thru 145391 and
145393 thru 145408, equipped with nose landing gear struts P/N 1170C0000-01 (including all
modifications), P/N 1170C0000-02 or P/N 1170C0000-03.
CANCELLATION / REVISION:
This AD cancels and supersedes the AD No. 2002-03-01 R2 – Amdt 39-992,
dated 22 Apr. 2003, and is being issued to include in the applicability the aircraft serial number
145002.
REASON:
It has been found the occurrence of nose landing gear outer wheel bearing
failures and separation of the corresponding wheel from the wheel axle.
Since this condition may occur in other airplanes of the same type and affects
flight safety, a corrective action is required. Thus, sufficient reason exists to request
compliance with this AD in the indicated time limit.
REQUIRED ACTION:
Replacement of the nose landing gear wheel nuts and seals with parts bearing
new P/N's.
COMPLIANCE:
Required as indicated below, unless already accomplished.
Within 1200 landings after 12 Apr. 2002, the effective date of the original issue
of this AD, or 12 calendar months after 22 Apr. 2003, the effective date of the revision 2 of this
AD, whichever occurs first, replace the nose landing gear wheel nut P/N 1170-0007 with nut
P/N 1170-0082; also replace the associated inner and outer seals P/N 68-1157 or P/N 72-290
with seals P/N 68-1498; and re- identify the struts according to the instructions of the below
referenced Embraer Service Bulletins.
After 01 Oct. 2002, no nose landing gear strut with the P/N's referred in the
Applicability section is allowed to be installed in any aircraft unless the nose landing gear wheel
nuts and seals have been replaced in accordance with the provisions of this AD.

The detailed instructions and procedures to accomplish this AD are described in


the Embraer Service Bulletins Nos. 145-32-0068 Rev. 01, or 145LEG-32-0006 Rev. 01, or
further revisions approved by the CTA.
Record compliance with this AD in the applicable maintenance log book.
