BRAZILIAN AIRWORTHINESS

DIRECTIVE
SERVIÇO PÚBLICO FEDERAL
EFFECTIVE DATE: AD No.:
DEPARTAMENTO DE AVIAÇÃO CIVIL
01 May 2000 1999-09-01R2

The following Airworthiness Directive (AD), issued by the Departamento de Aviação Civil (DAC) in accordance
with provisions of Chapter IV, Title III of Código Brasileiro de Aeronáutica - Law NR 7,565 dated 19
December 1986 - and Regulamento Brasileiro de Homologação Aeronáutica (RBHA) 39, applies to all aircraft
registered in the Registro Aeronáutico Brasileiro. No person may operate an aircraft to which this AD
applies, unless it has previously complied with the requirements established herein.

AD No. 1999-09-01R2 - EMBRAER - Amendment 39-874.

APPLICABILITY:
This Airworthiness Directive is applicable to all Embraer aircraft models
EMB-145, EMB-145ER, EMB-145EU, EMB-145EP, EMB-145LR, EMB-145LU, EMB-145MP,
EMB-145MR, EMB-135ER and EMB-135LR, of serial numbers 145004 thru 145094, 145096 thru
145098, 145100 thru 145103, 145105 thru 145113, 145115 thru 145121, 145123 thru 145126, 145128 thru
145136, 145138, 145139, 145141 thru 145153, 145155 thru 145174, 145176 and 145177.
CANCELLATION / REVISION:
This AD supersedes AD 1999-09-01R1 – Amdt. 39-868, dated 25 Oct 1999, and
is being issued to request periodical inspections and a final rework of the affected components.
REASON:
One case of elevator spring tab arm attachment looseness has been reported,
which was caused by the incorrect application of the attachment fasteners (two) to the tab upper
skin. The loss of the fitting rigidity may cause damage to the other fasteners (four) in the tab
spar which may lead, at worst, to the linkage separation and possible loss of aircraft flight
control.
Since this condition may occur in other airplanes of the same type and affects
flight safety, an immediate corrective action is required. Thus, sufficient reason exists to request
compliance with this AD in the indicated time limit.
REQUIRED ACTION:
Periodical inspection of the elevator spring-tab and servo-tab hinge fittings and
actuating linkages fittings to the tab structure; replacement of unserviceable components; and
rework of the spring-tab and servo tab hinge fittings and actuating linkage attachments.
COMPLIANCE:
Required as indicated below, unless already accomplished.
PART I – At each 100 flight operating hours or seven days, whichever occurs first after the
effective date of the revision previously issued of this AD, check externally the
overall integrity of the tabs hinge fittings, spring–tab actuating arm attachment and
servo-tab actuating linkage attachment to the tab structure, according to the
detailed instructions and procedures described in Part I of the Embraer Service
Bulletin No. 145-55-0022 Rev. 1, dated 25 Jan 2000, or further revisions approved
by the CTA. In case of any evidence of relative movement or gap between the
fitting and tab structure is found, perform immediately the rework required by Part
III of this AD or replace the affected tab. Upon compliance with Part II below, the
periodicity of the inspection required by this Part I may be extended to 400 flight
operating hours until incorporation of Part III.

CONTINUATION OF AD No.: 1999-09-01R2 - AMENDMENT 39-874 PAGE No.: 2/2

PART II – Within the next 400 flight operating hours of the effective date of the revision
previously issued of this AD, perform an internal fiberscopic inspection of the tabs
hinge fittings, spring–tab actuating arm attachment and servo-tab actuating linkage
attachment to the tab structure, according to the detailed instructions and
procedures described in Part II of the Embraer Service Bulletin No. 145-55-0022
Rev. 1, dated 25 Jan 2000, or further revisions approved by the CTA. If any
fastener or component is found unserviceable or damaged perform immediately
the rework required by Part III of this AD or replace the affected tab.
PART III – Within the next 4000 flight operating hours of the effective date of this AD, replace
all composi-lock fasteners of the spring tab and servo tab hinge fittings, actuating
arm attachment and actuating link attachment by NAS bolts and nuts, and install
internal reinforcement plates according to the detailed instructions and procedures
described in Part III of the Embraer Service Bulletin No. 145-55-0022 Rev. 1, dated
25 Jan 2000, or further revisions approved by the CTA. Aircraft with S/N’s 145004
thru 145043 shall perform previously the elevator mass balance assembly and
control column nose-up spring modifications in accordance with the detailed
instructions and procedures described in the Embraer Service Bulletin No. 145-27-
0034 Rev. 1, dated 03 Aug 1998, or further revisions approved by the CTA. Upon
compliance with this Part III the inspections established by Part I and II are no
longer required.
Record compliance with Parts I, II and III of this AD in the applicable
maintenance log book.
