The story unfolded with Rose, (Rudolf Rassendylls sister-in-law) telling Rudolf Rassendyll that he need to get himself a job. Rudolfs brother, (Robert) had found an interesting job for him as an attache to Sir Jacob Borrodaile. Borrodaile will be the Ambassador of Ruritania in six months time. As Rudolf had some time before he started to work, he planned to traveled in central Europe. He choose to visit Ruritania which was the only country in central Europe that he had not visit. He decided to witnesses the coronation of King Rudolf the Fifth in Strelsau, the capital of Ruritania. He felt very happily with the idea. Strelsau is packed with people and there was no accommodation or lodging available. Thus, Rassendyll was to stop at Zenda, a busy town which was fifty miles away from the capital. Rassendyll stayed in an inn in Zenda. He saw the famous castle of Tarlenheim. He was happy to be in the inn, as the inn keeper was very hospitable. He heard about Duke Michael and the King. The King was stayed in the Dukes hunting lodge in Zenda while the Duke was making the necessary coronation arrangements in

Strelsau. Johann, the Dukes forest guard enter the inn and was astonished to see Rassendyll. Rassendyll learns from the inn keepers daughter that the inkeepers hair was of the exact colour with his. The Royal family members of Ruritania has red hair! Colonel Sapt splashed a bucket of water on Rassendyll to wake him up. Rassendyll realise the King had been drugged by Black Michael and is senseless. The King was unfit to attending the coronation and Black Michael stood the chance to be crowned as King of Ruritania. Sapt and Fritz convinced Rassendyll to takes the place of the King and to be crown. Rassendyll resisted but both Sapt and Fritz managed to persuaded him into doing it. Rassendylls beard was shaved to made him look like Rudolf the Fifth. He putted on the Kings uniform and took the Kings cane and revolver. Then, Rassendyll, Sapt and Fritz rode through the forest on their horses. Sapt instructed Rassendyll, on how to behave like the King and what to doing during the coronation. They board a special carriage at the railway station and headed for Strelsau. When they arrived at Strelsau, they were welcome by government and army clowns. The crowds cheered the King. The coronation procession began with bell ringing, bands playing and people cheering. Everyone were in high spirit in the New Town. However, the people who lived in the old town were not, as they liked the king. They were disheartened to see Rudolf the Fifth be the new king. They prefer Duke Michael as King. While travelling through the old town, Rassendyll did something out of the ordinary. He rod alone through the crowd in the old town to showed that the King trusted them and to convince them that he was good. The cheering grew louder as the King passed through the town. Later, the

coronation taking place (Rassendyll) met the

beautiful Princess Flavia and the Duke Michael. Rassendyll feel uneasy with Princess Flavias presence. She noticed a slight different in the King. However, he made his presence felt at the palace especially to Marshall Strakenz. Rassendyll and Sapt went over a secret passageway under the palace into a quiet street. They left for Zenda on cars. Sapt realised that the Dukes men were followed them. When they arrived at the hunting lodge, they notices that the old woman was gone and Josef, a loyal servant of the king, was kidnapped. They realised that the real King was not in the lodge. He is missing! Rassendyll urged Colonel Sapt to rescue the real King from Black Michael. But Sapt remain calm and explained the situation to Rassendyll. They needed to return to Strelsau at once and Rassendyll must continued to act as the King. They had to do that to prevent Black Michael since using his evil ways to become the king. Colonel Sapt explained further that as long as Rassendyll act as the King of Ruritania, the real king will remained safe. Black Michael was not a fool to kill the real King and let Rassendyll rule Ruritania. Rassendyll and Colonel Sapt taught a lesson to the group of eight horsemen. They managed to killed three of them.
