INTRODUCTION

The Problem and the Business

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) known as Global Goals

which are adopted by all United Nations Member States wherein SDGs serve
as a universal call to action and protect the planet and ensure to end poverty.
Last September 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was
adopted by the General Assembly, and it includes the 17 sustainable
development goals (SDGs) that have a "leaving no one behind" principle. The
development must balance social, economic, and environmental
sustainability.

One of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is the SDG 13, the
"Climate Action" wherein taking urgent action is a must to combat climate
change and its impacts on society. Improper waste management is one of the
biggest environmental issues in society, there are more than 7 billion people
who consume different waste. There are many countries experiencing issues
regarding the Improper Waste Disposal.

The lack of disposal facilities and inefficient waste collection are

common problems in developing countries. Developing countries are more
affected than developed countries due to a lack of resources to purchase
expensive and advanced technologies that support waste management
activities. However, these studies show that this type of technology may not
always be helpful but instead result in more environmental and health damage
if not properly managed and greater financial debts (Kojima and Michida ed.,
2011).

type of technology may not always be helpful but instead result in more

environmental and health damage if not properly managed and greater

financial debts.

In this study, the discussion focuses on the environmental issues in the

Philippines. For the past decades, waste management has become the
biggest issue in the Philippines just like other developing countries. As a
result, the significant increase of waste generated especially in urban cities is
caused by urbanization, rapid population growth, and modernization in the
country. Due to the inability of both national and local governments, this
condition has been created by both environmental and health problems to
implement proper waste management primarily due to human, financial and
technical resources. "Solid waste problems are not the only environmental
problems, and environmental problems are certainly not the only issues
competing for attention and funds” (UNEP-IETC 1996: 16).

The most comprehensive solid waste management policy in the

country, the Philippines Republic Act 9003 (RA 9003), known as the
“Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000’’ was the law that has been
signed on January 26, 2001, and the major agency tasked to implement this
was the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC).

The Rising Fortepreneurs company decided to create a business that

will serve/help the community to lessen the negative impacts of Improper
Waste Disposal. The company will create and innovate new products made
from recycled materials that may improperly/properly dispose of by the
community.

Market Analysis 1
STI COLLEGE ALABANG

The Target Market

Rising Fortepreneurs is one of the corporations in Muntinlupa which
aims to minimize the solid waste and turn it into a unique, cost-effective, and
valuable product.

Rising Fortepreneurs’ target market is the people who are residents of

Muntinlupa City only. This residents of Muntinlupa aged 15-69, both male and
female, and 5, 000 and above monthly income individuals are the primary
target market of the company. The size of the target market is probably a
large sector. The lifestyle and preferences of the community area will serve
as company basis in producing new product that will give them a satisfaction.
Quality, design, size, and texture are the look ups of the target market so the
company would make a products or service that would really satisfy the
costumers. For as low as P150.00, the costumers would preferably buy the
products from recycled materials according to their preferences. This
innovation of the product in the market would benefit the company to gain a
higher demand and bring the name of the company in top.

Hence, Rising Fortepreneurs made a right decision of putting up a solid

waste management in the community to help Mother Earth sustaining a clean
and safe environment for all.

Marketing Need
The Rising Fortepreneurs company aims to satisfy the needs and
wants of the society that may influence the country’s economic performance
by bringing new products and production development to the market and by
uplifting productivity and competition widely.

As part of the business environment, there are factors that influence

the need of the products or services. The economic development has an
impact to business environment wherein the higher levels of pollution, global
warming and increased consumption of non-renewable resources can be
prevented by seeking the positive influence of the economic development.
More likely, the business earns more customers, increase the profitability, and
can experience great opportunities for further expansion. The environmental
issue has an impact to business, it includes the improper waste disposal
wherein it is really one of the biggest issues of the society and the reason why

the company wants to prevent it and turn it into an opportunity for the society.
The company uses the 3R’s wherein, the waste can help the business to earn
money and help the society to turn waste as recycled products. The
development of the products or services made by the company will turn into a 1
STI COLLEGE ALABANG
something new that will be the first ever product/s to exist in the market and it
will satisfy the market needs. The recycled products made by the company
will be more attractive to the market because of its characteristic and it will be
a big help to sustain the needs of the market. The company’s mission and
vision have the best objective over the other companies. In terms of the
products or services made by the company it offers the affordable price with a
premium quality of the products or services, uniqueness, an eco-friendly, and
create employment opportunities not only for company but for the others as
well.

As the Rising Fortepreneurs rise, it would also bring the environment,

the society, and the market to rise and satisfy the needs and wants of society
in exchange for profit and minimizing the climate change through solid waste
management programs.

Market Growth
Although the Philippine economy developed at a slow pace until the
twenty-first century, it has grown significantly in the last two decades.
Between 2001 and 2009, average annual growth was 4.6 percent, and
between 2010 and 2019, it jumped to 6.4 percent (Investopedia, 2020).
Probably, the company would expect an increase in the market size in the
next few years. Rising Fortepreneurs, as a company aiming high, it would
consider maximizing the opportunity and strengths to attract more customers
and attain the best brand reputation that would bring the company to be well-
known, not only in the Philippines but in the whole world.

A healthy and harmonious growth of agriculture, manufacturing, and

services sectors is necessary for any economy to advance. Once these are
met, advancements in the tertiary sectors of the economy can occur very
naturally. In terms of economic and social growth, the Philippines has lagged
behind its wealthier Southeast Asian and East Asian neighbors for decades.
Those days, though, are long gone. Today, it appears that the Philippines is
firmly on the road of development and sustainability (Investopedia, 2020).

Therefore, as the market size increases the demand of the products will
increase and the company would higher its price due to it. The quality and
size really matter to the customers, so Rising Fortepreneurs oblige to improve
the look ups of the customers and innovate products to gain more customers.

Market Trends
Rising Fortepreneurs focused on the solid waste management in the
community of Muntinlupa. The increase in population comes an increase in
waste products that must be managed. The company look for the trends that 1
STI COLLEGE ALABANG
would be beneficial to its growth and for the minimization of solid waste in the
community to save Mother Earth from climate change.

Today’s biggest environmental issue was the improper waste disposal.

By that reason, the solid waste management was implemented by
government together with the Rising Fortepreneurs to help the society to
solve that environmental issue. As of today, 3R’s was not really use by the
society, by that reason instead of making the plastic wastes into opportunities,
it becomes a threat to the community. According to Dragani (2019), there are
a variety of reasons why waste is not adequately managed. One issue is a
lack of understanding about hazardous waste and some people are unaware
of how many products can be hazardous or how to properly dispose of them.
So, solid wastes were disposed improperly and most of the people nowadays
were more interested on using different materials made from plastics and as
you can see plastics can be seen anywhere and most especially in the lakes,
canals, and hallway.

The emergence of improper waste disposal gives an opportunity to

Rising Fortepreneurs company to use plastic wastes to create something new
for the community and to save Mother Earth and the people from climate
change. The company gathered the data and most of the residents of
Muntinlupa ang willing to buy home decorations came from plastics and most
are willing to pay P150.00-P200.00 for the products with good quality and
design. The company made the product according to customers choice and
company’s innovation towards the product to ensure that it would satisfy the
need and wants of the society. Solid wastes were the materials of the
company that can produce an eco-friendly, valuable, and cost-effective
products.

Home decorations are one of the most popular trends in different

barangays here in Muntinlupa. Mostly, aged 15–69 years old want their home
to become more presentable by various home decorations. Unlike other home
decorations, which are expensive, and most people choose a product cost-
effective and with good quality and design. Nonetheless, since it was not
budget-friendly, most of the consumers chose a cheaper one which is the
home decorations made from solid waste.
Hence, Rising Fortepreneurs grab the opportunity to minimize the solid 1
STI COLLEGE ALABANG
waste in the community and turn it into a cost-effective, unique, eco-friendly,
and unique products.

Competitive Analysis
In the society, competition is unavoidable. Competition of products and
for the good reputation can be seen in the industry. The companies are
battling for the sales, brand, and customers satisfaction of their products.

Final Plan and Projections

The financial section includes projections for revenue and expenses for
at least three years with a summary narrative of the key assumptions. This
section also details the startup costs for capital equipment, inventory, initial
marketing and staffing, and subsidy needed to cover losses during the startup
period. These capital requirements may be funded from a combination of
contribution from the nonprofit, grants for the enterprise, and/or debt
financing.
