Suffrage
Your right. Our responsibility

As a citizen of our country, one of my responsibilities as a

citizen is to participate in an election that is held every six
years for national and local elections. The webinar tackled the
upcoming election that will be held on May 9, 2022. We all want
a model candidate or effective leader that embodies emotionally
stable, deliberate-conscientious, open and honest politicians. I
am more likely to vote for a candidate who is approachable with
a strong reputation, good communication skills with academic
achievement and prioritizes the sake of his nation and on how
he/she makes solutions to all difficulties that are currently
facing our country.

This month will be my second time to participate in upcoming

elections for both national and local. The webinar I have
watched about the implications for good governance discussed by
Atty. Bembol Castillo which it's implications for good
governance. He mentioned about using the parameter of
governance, it projects the principle of transparency in the
election and campaign procedures fosters trust and public
confidence in the process by allowing voters to guarantee that
the outcomes truly reflect the people's will. Social media
creates the governance principle of transparency in public
office. Transparency that makes accountability higher among
local officials. In addition, respondents are most interested in
candidates' educational platforms, followed by programs
addressing medical services. This demonstrates that people want
an agenda that promotes an inclusive strategy for education
reform in light of the pandemic's consequences on the education
sector. The same can be said for the health sector, which has
borne the brunt of the pandemic and exposed systemic
inefficiencies.

The webinar also discussed about the basic election law in the
Philippines like the Prohibited Acts of Voters (Sec.66) which
bringing out of ballot, ballot secrecy folder or marking pen
except in the case under Article IX of this Resolution and speak
with anyone other than the EBs while inside the polling place.
In addition, RA 9189 or the Overseas absentee Voting Law
entitles all Filipino citizens overseas, not otherwise
disqualified law, and immigrants and permanent residents with
affidavit of intent to resume sidence in the Philippines, to
vote for elective positions on the national level: esident;
Vice-President; Senators; and Party it Representatives.

I believe elections are important in democracy because it

provides an opportunity to advance democratization and encourage
political liberalization. For an election to be free and fair,
certain civil liberties, such as the freedoms of speech,
association and assembly, are required. So I encourage evey
qualified voter to vote in the upcoming election because votes
could solve poverty, inequality, healthcare crisis, for national
security and climate crisis and toxic pollution.
