Today's English – my stance

I believe that English being such a widely spread language is mostly a good thing, but not flawless.
It's great for businesses or for people who have relatives in other countries. It's a great springboard
for people who moved abroad and don't know the native language of that country. Chances are, if
they know English, they'll be able to get a job and won't have a lot of issues communicating with
their co-workers or newly found friends. Knowing a second language in general is also a very good
thing that can make your life easier and strengthen your brain’s natural ability to focus and process
information. However, it being so widely spread can have a negative impact on some other
languages. For example, because today’s youth is so surrounded by English, they start merging
English words with words from their native language. Most people in Croatia nowadays believe that
the word patetično has the same meaning as the English pathetic but it doesn’t. Patetično means
grand or majestic and if you describe someone or something as pathetic in English, you’re saying
they’re sad and weak or helpless.
