Activity Title: ExerciseDecimal#3
LEARNING TARGETS: Decimals & Operations with decimal.
REFERENCES TITLE: BUSINESS MATH (Vibal)

Main idea to be learned

 A decimal or a decimal number is the term used to describe the base – 10 number
system.
 Because our number system is based on decimal numeration, converting a fraction into
decimal follows the ordinary division of numbers.
 To add and subtract decimals, write one number below the other so that the bottom
decimal point is directly below the top decimal point. Add or subtract each column
starting from right to left.
 Perform the usual multiplication. Temporarily disregard the decimal point. When the
product is obtained, count the decimal places of both factors. Then, move the decimal
point to the left by the number of the total decimal places of the factor.
 The procedure for division of decimals is similar to the division of whole numbers. Move
the decimal point of the dividend with the same number.
Example
Add 220.25 + 16.75 + 90.50 = n Multiply 4.28 x 3.56 = n
220.25 4.28
16.75 x 3.56
+ 90.50 2568
327.50 2140
+ 1284__
Subtract 5.260 – 3.911 = n 15.2368
5.260
- 3.911 Divide 35 ÷ 0.235 = n
1.349 __148.9
0.235 / 35000.0
Percent - 235
1. Find the 30% of 390. 1150
30% = 0.30 - 940
0.30 x 390 = 117 2100
- 1880
2. what percent of 50 is 20? 2200
20 2
50
= 5 = 0.40 = 40% - 2115
Therefore, 20 is 40% of 50 85
