The Functions of Arts in My Own Life

Art is subjective, it cannot be reduced to simpler terms as it is used to express. Now, each person
has his/her unique way of expressing themselves through their ability or skill and imagination in creating
works of art. On a day-to-day basis, works of art capitalizing on literature (self-empowerment e-books)
keep me sane, motivated to continue living for the experience of the unexpected, and chase after my
dreams. Some art works, items, and products at home are also of functional or useful in my life as they
witnessed all the phases I have gone through—my ups and downs. Every time I see them, the more I
realize the flow of time and change of my current state that I am maturing and growing. Some also
express my achievements, beliefs, and me as a sentimental person. These artworks, items, or products that
is useful in my life are:
a) Harry Potter Book
This is an artwork that serves as a personal function to me. My inner child was so
happy that I got to discover the movie series Harry Potter and read the book itself. It
ignited my interest in chemistry as a child and even now. This specific book does not
just entertain me, but also educates me about distinguishing reality and what was not.
b) Wooden Chair
This wooden chair performs a physical function (utilitarian) as
well as social function (historical) in our home. It already existed
before I was born and used of course for sitting or relaxing. I value this wooden chair
because it witnessed all that has happened to me.
c) Medals
Medals are the reflection of my hard work within the
years of my journey in learning at school. For me, a medal is
an art that performs both physical and personal functions in my life. Aside from
being displayed at our house, every time I see them I get motivated towards
achieving my dreams at the same time paying gratitude to myself for not giving
up.
d) Ceramic Mug
Since I love drinking coffee, ceramic mug is an essential to me. It is
an art that appeal to me personally because it is a way
to satisfy my endless desire for a hot coffee, especially
when I study.
e) Rosary
I grew up in a religious family. A rosary is an art
for me that is of significant as I chant my prayers to
God. It plays a religious function in my life ( a must
have), because I have an undying faith in the divine creator, trusting his plans on me.
f) Birthstone Necklace
I am quite a sentimental person. I keep things that serve as a reminder for me of
happy memories I spend with awesome people. This birthstone necklace is all the way
from San Juan where I spent my first unwinding experience with friends as a college
freshman. It performs a personal function as it provides me with memories of great value
apart from the fact that it also describes me because it has my birthstone.
There are so many works of art that are of great importance to me. However, these
pictures of art are the most special to my heart as they have meaning and are useful for me
as an inspiration to carry on in life and discover and appreciate more the beauty of the things around me.
