Introductory Message
Welcome to TLE /TVL– HE (Beauty Care- Nail Care Services)!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the


Schools Division of Escalante City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to


guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For learning facilitator:

The TLE/TVL – HE (Beauty Care - Nail Care Services) Activity Sheet will
help you facilitate the leaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential
Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between
you and learner. This will be made available to the learners with the references/links
to ease the independent learning.

material provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent

Perform Basic Nail Designs

I. Learning Competency with Code

II. Background Information for Learners

Nails are important part of our personality and it deserves to be treated


properly and with care. Having an attractive and healthy nail can help anyone to
feel confident and young.

Learning the concepts of nail designs is important to acquire skills for


application in real life situation to augment family income. This activity can be
practiced at home.

After cleaning the fingernails and toenails including hand and arm massage, you
may now start applying the chosen design on the nails.

Application of Basic Nail Designs


A. Plain Manicure

It is the traditional application of nail polish to the entire nail


plate.

Procedure:

1. Apply base coat.

1. Select color of the nail polish according to the customer’s requirements


2. Apply the base coat with long strokes.
3. Start with the little finger and working toward the thumb.
4. Allow it to dry.

2. Apply liquid polish.

1. Apply the polish lightly and quickly, using sweeping strokes from the
base to the free edge of the nail.
2. Apply polish down at the center of the nail, to the right and left side of
the nail.
3. Repeat second coat of polish to both hands.

3. Remove excess polish.


1. Dip a cotton-tipped orangewood stick into nail polish remover.
2. Apply it carefully around the cuticles and nail edges.

4. Apply top or seal coat.


Apply a top or seal coat with long strokes in the same manner as the
base coat.

B. Half-Moon

Half moon is a style that involves applying of nail polish over


the whole nail plate except the area of lunula.

Procedure:

1. Apply platinum twice on the nail. Allow it to dry.


2. Apply color enamel from one side to the other side following the shape of
the lunula. Repeat the application of color enamel if necessary.
3. Remove excess polish.
4. Apply topcoat.
C. Half-Moon with Tip

It involves the application of colored polish over the whole nail


plate except the area of lunula and tip of the nail.

Procedure:

1. Apply platinum twice on the nail. Allow it to dry.

2. Apply color enamel from one side to the other side following the shape of the
lunula and the free edge. The edge should be seen.
3. Repeat the application of color enamel if necessary.

4. Remove excess polish.

5. Apply topcoat.

D. French Manicure or Tip Design

Variation 1
It is a design which involves the application of colored polish over the
whole part of the nail except the area of the free-edge.

Procedure:

1. Apply base coat (platinum) twice. Allow it to dry.

2. Apply color enamel from one side to the other following the shape of the tip
or free edge.

3. Fill up other parts of the nail with color enamel in the same way tip was
done. Repeat the application of color enamel if necessary.

4. Remove excess polish.

5. Apply topcoat.
French Manicure or Tip Design

Variation 2
It involves the application of white nail polish or colored
polish on the tips and coating the rest of the nail with a
sheer polish. It’s suitable for short nails and those with
moderate length of nails.

Procedure:
1. Apply base coat (platinum) twice. Allow it to dry.
2. Apply a coat of translucent pink polish over your entire nail.
3. Apply white or color enamel following the shape of the free edge. Apply
second coating, if necessary.
4. Remove excess polish.
5. Apply topcoat.

E. Elephant Tusk

Elephant tusk is a style that involves the application of nail polish to


create S curve, leaving a slightly larger gap along the nail walls.

Procedure:

1. Apply platinum twice. Allow it to dry.


2. Make the half circle design at the inner side of the nail.
3. Shape the other side, following an S-like.
4. Fill the other side to complete the design. Repeat the application of color
enamel if necessary.
5. Remove excess polish.
6. Apply topcoat.

Glittering Ideas
If the polish is thick, add a little nail polish solvent and shake well.
It is much better to use dark color of nail polish when designing to make the designs
more visible.

Direction: In a clean sheet of bond paper, draw 5 samples of nails and apply
the different basic nail designs and color it is using colored pencils or colored pen.

Activity 4. Perform Me.

Direction: Simulate or perform the activity given. Using plastic spoons, apply
your knowledge and skills in basic nail designing as a proof of your performance.
Follow the steps in doing the nail designs. Make your output clean and place in your
plastic envelops for submission.
