4.1.15 With terminal post made of copper rod inserted into lead post.
4.2 Accessories
4.2.1 Modular tray/rack for mounting/housing the batteries as per paragraph 4.3
below. Alternatively, self-racking arrangement shall be provided to form the
complete bank.
4.2.2 Bolted type banking accessories such as inter-cell, inter-bloc (mono bloc
batteries) inter-row and inter-tier connectors made of insulated tinned solid
copper bar, and adequately sized to carry, without excessive heating or
voltage drop, the required current (maximum charge/discharge) at the
ambient temperature. Similarly, grounding jumper connectors shall also be
provided if self-racking arrangement of battery bank is offered.
4.2.3 Lead plated brass or stainless steel hardware for inter-cell and inter-step
connections. The inter-connectors shall either be insulated or provided with
snap on type insulated covers.
4.2.4 All the necessary tools such as torque wrench, pliers, spanners, etc. shall be
adequately insulated.
4.2.5 A portable digital test voltmeter of appropriate reading range of 3-0-3 volts
and with contact spears and leads for checking the cell voltage.
4.2.7 A digital cell thermometer of high precision, good quality, industrial type and
with clear and visible display.
4.2.10 A hand operated siphon tube with suction bulb for emptying any cell into a
container conveniently placed in a safe and accessible place.
4.2.11 Instruction/caution labels and typical within the tray connection layout chart.
4.2.12 Mechanical lifting device of adequate capacity when specified in the Data
Schedule.
4.2.13 The following minimum safety equipment for safe handling of the Battery
and protection of maintenance personnel shall be supplied:
b. Chemical apron
c. Face shield
4.2.14 A lockable steel cabinet for storing the maintenance equipment when
specified in Data Schedule.
4.2.15 A wall mounted medical kit containing all items necessary to attend to
battery related accidents.
4.2.17 Maintenance manual shall be provided along with the Material Safety Data
Sheet.
b. Made from acid resistant epoxy powder painted or plastic coated steel
or aluminum alloy materials to ensure corrosion resistance. Or of plastic
that has similar properties and performance of steel strong enough to
hold the battery cells.
ii. Minimum height to the bottom tier surface shall not be less
than 150mm from the floor level. The top of the cells in the
highest tier/row shall not be over 1.5 meter above the floor
level.
4.4 Nameplate
4.4.1 Each battery and modular tray/rack shall be permanently and legibly marked
in English with following information:
a. Manufacturer’s name/country
g. Number of Cells
i. Specific Gravity at 25 °C
l. 46-TMSS-01
4.4.2 The nameplate material shall be stainless steel and shall be fixed to the
tray/rack by stainless steel screws or rivets.
4.4.3 Each cell or monobloc shall carry durable markings giving the following
minimum information:
5.0 TESTS
All tests results shall be provided for review and acceptance by National Grid SA. Tests
shall be as per the latest applicable International Standards/NG Approved ITP.
5.1.1 All type (design) tests prescribed in the relevant IEC or equivalent
ANSI/IEEE standard shall be performed on the representative unit or on the
first unit of every new design or rating to be supplied to National Grid SA.
5.1.2 In lieu of the actual design (Type) tests, certified test reports of type tests
performed on identical unit may be submitted to National Grid SA for review
and approval during the pre-qualification.
The acceptance test for capacity shall be performed as a site test per IEEE 450 or
IEC 60896, Part 11. Manufacturer’s representatives shall be present at the job site to
observe the battery installation and pre-commissioning tests.
Visual examination and checking of dimensions and weight tests (for their adherence
to approved drawings) shall be carried out on five (5) percent of total number of cells
in a lot (of same type and discharge capacity) drawn at random subject to minimum
of two. Should a sample cell be found defective, the tests shall be repeated on a
double amount of samples drawn from the same lot and if any cell of the latter
sample gives unsatisfactory results, the lot shall be rejected.
Inspections and tests, for batch acceptance, shall be carried out using inspection
levels and AQL (Acceptance Quality Level) as recommended in IEC 60623. The
sampling procedure shall be established in accordance with IEC 60410.
6.1 Battery shall be transported in a “dry charged” condition sealed with moisture-proof
caps and thoroughly wrapped and sealed.
The following documents shall be submitted during the pre-qualification and offered
quotation, contract award or as requested:
7.1 Dimensional drawings showing the recommended layout and mounting arrangement
of the battery with consideration to adequate heat dissipation.
7.3 Any specific data/particulars, which the battery manufacturer should take into
account while designing the chargers.
7.4 Typical Charge and Discharge characteristics curves showing cell Voltage and
Current versus Time.
7.5 Graphs (or relevant figures) showing the available capacity (expressed as a
percentage of nominal capacity) as dependent on different discharge rates to
specified final discharge per cell.
7.6 Rating curve for cell type offered indicating “KT” (Capacity Rating Factor) based on
a 10 hour battery capacity ‘C10” per IEEE 485 or equivalent.
7.7 Graphs (or relevant figures) indicating the drawable capacity as a function of
ambient temperature.
7.8 Graphs (relevant figures) behavior curve for offered batteries (No. of cycles
versus Depth of Discharge).
7.10 A laminated card summarizing the maintenance requirements, procedures and safety
precautions, suitable for mounting adjacent to the battery.
