CYANOBACTERIA/BLUE-GREEN ALGAE (FLAGELLA)

- Though often referred to as algae, blue-green algae


are not algae at all, but types of bacteria called
cyanobacteria. They are normally present in bodies of
water and common in Minnesota. This type of bacteria
thrives in warm, nutrient-rich water.

RAFFLESIA/ STINKING CORPSE LILY (TRICHOMES)

- The flower with the world's largest bloom is the


Rafflesia arnoldii. This rare flower is found in the
rainforests of Indonesia. It can grow to be 3 feet across
and weigh up to 15 pounds! It is a parasitic plant, with
no visible leaves, roots, or stem.

PAN TROGLODYTES/CHIMPANZEE (CILIA)

- Chimpanzees are great apes found across central


and West Africa. Along with bonobos, they are our
closest living relatives, sharing 98.7 percent of our
genetic blueprint. Humans and chimps are also
thought to share a common ancestor who lived some
seven to 13 million years ago

SOLANUM TUBEROSUM/POTATO (ROOT HAIRS)

- The potato (Solanum tuberosum) belongs to the


solanaceae family of flowering plants. It originated and
was first domesticated in the Andesmountains of
South America. The potato is the third most important
food crop in the world after rice and wheat in terms of
human consumption.
