chapters.

Adjustment of Sampling Frequency

The implemented standard algoritm (fourier transformation)
requires an adjustment of the sampling frequency to the
actual signal frequency. For reaching the required accuracy
the sampling frequency has to be adjusted to the 12 values
of the signal frequency. Therefor we define one current
transformer and one voltage transformer as synchronising
inputs on which signal frequencies it will be synchronised.
Because the signal profile of a voltage transformer in general
is at nominal value and also with less harmonics we
recommend to use the voltage input for synchronising also
in case of configuration types which only use current
functions.

Fig. 7 Tripping characteristic of differential protection

Figure 7 shows the tripping condition for each phase.

If the tripping condition is met within 12 consecutive samples,

the signals "tripping" and "differential current" are activated.
The tripping of a phase is blocked whenever the ratio between
2nd harmonic, or 5th harmonic, and fundamental wave of
the differential current exceeds the values set in the parameter
field. As a result, any false tripping of the differential protection
is prevented when energizing the transformer.

In case of a system disturbance, currents with a higher-

harmonic contents can also appear. Whenever the differential
current exceeds the value set for parameter "high-set
overcurrent", the harmonic restraint is blocked, phase by
phase, irrespective of the higher-harmonic contents; eventually,
tripping is enabled, phase by phase. Function output
"restraint" indicates the condition of the restraint feature.
The trip output is reset whenever the initiating signal has
disappeared during 36 consecutive samples (3 cycles =
providing a trip signal extension feature).

Withstand of insulation: 4 kV connected to a resistance thermometer, thermal element or
a DC current or a DC voltage source. It converts the measured
value into a typical current or voltage signal, which can be
used by the DRS-COMPACT. The mode and range of the
measuring transducer is being adjusted and programmed
by ELIN Energieversorgung on the basis of the specific

operating with the protective function.
The auxilliary voltage supply comes from the DRS-COMPACT
