Summary of The Oxford Murders:

 At Oxford University, a professor and a grad student who

work together to try to stop a potential series of murders
seemingly linked by mathematical symbols. Which is Martin
(Elijah Wood), a PhD American student in mathematics and
enrolls at Oxford in the hope of meeting his mentor. Martin
are also a boring and unengaging student and Elijah Wood
does nothing to improve his script while his Professor Arthur
Seldom (Sir John Hurt), is a mathematics professor emeritus
who plays logic against the odds. Also, he is the young man
manages to find lodging at Mrs. Eagleton’s (Anna Massey’s),
but in this house, a stifling atmosphere prevails due to the
landlady’s attitude. Indeed Mrs. Eagleton, who happens to
be a friend of Seldom’s, is a haughty and unsympathetic
woman who also stifles her daughter Beth (Julie Cox). At the
university, things do not fare much better as Martin is put in
his place by his idol during one of Seldom’s lectures. But his
private life changes for the best as he starts an affair with
Lorna (Leonor Watling), a beautiful girl he met during a
game of squash. One night, Seldom and Martin, who find
themselves at Mrs. Eagleton’s, discover her dead body who
are interrogated by the Police. Soon afterwards, they decide
to lead their own private investigation. His acting skill is not
at home in the world of blandness. You could do better than
“The Oxford Murders”, but if you’re not looking for too much
it will suffice.

Answer the following:

1. There’s no such truth outside of Mathematics.
Explanation:
 There is no absolute truth, because they invent rules and then see
what they need to prove or see what it is consistent with them.
Therefore, truth is not a numbers. Truth is absurd, random, and
deeply unpredictable that implying humans are not part of an
orchestrated continuum.

2. What were the clues in the movie? Explain the symbolism of

each.
 The next symbol in the sequence would again look like an M, but this
time with a horizontal bar through the middle that just touches the
point of the “V” shape.

THE FOUR SIMBOLISM:

 The first symbol is a circle that is left and also the word “kreis,” which
means circle in German that arranged on her Scrabble ledger. The
circle is the parent shape that allows all the other shapes to exist from
the center of the circle, based on Pythagoras.

 A fish or two intersecting circles is the second symbol. This symbol

that is created from two intersecting circles is called a dyad, which
represents duality or otherness.

 The third symbol is the triangle or tetrad symbol, which reaches into
the corners of the circle, is supposed to produce harmony, stability,
and synthesis after war.

 The last symbol is a circle drawn along a line that connects the two
centers from the lines of the triangle creates a perfect square shape

that conveys four seasons, four ages of man, and four directions of
the earth. Four becomes the perfect number in the decade, the
number 10, as well. 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10, and is associated with
wholeness that has symbolic combination of triangles that will reveal
the intent of the serial killer.

3. What realization did you get in the movie about math and its
application?
 I realized in the movie is about the last symbolism which is the last
incident that may be crucial because in this situation they can identify
who will be the serial killer when they find out the last formula or
symbolism.

4. Identify the mathematical tool used in the resolution of the

conflict of the movie.
 Long measuring tape was used for the mathematical tool when
Seldom test the Pythagorean Theorem out on the soccer field, or
apply trigonometry to finding heights of things, to testing that our
measures of distances using parallax are accurate.

5. Who is the killer in the movie?

 There was no serial killer in the movie because all of it is only an
inventions just like Martin said to Professor Seldom but it is clarified
at the very beginning that Mrs. Eagleton killed by her own daughter
(Beth) which Seldom came over to help to cover up the crime. All of
the crime and incidents are from Arthur Seldom who has been lying
at the entire time.
