Full day school system

As we know, the Minister of Education and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, initiated the full day
school system for primary education in both public and private elementary and junior high schools.
With this full day school system, students will be at school from 07.00 to 17.00. This discourse has
spread everywhere in Indonesia. But some the people may agree with this new policy with their
reason but others may disagree with some other reasons. Both sides have their own argument.
Although there are benefits of full day. in my opinion, full day school system should not implement
to the school.

Firstly students' understanding of the learning material becomes more conveyed. they say
that with a full day school, the material from the subjects taught by their teacher will be more
conveyed because with a large amount of lesson time in the full day school system and students can
also focus more because they are still in the classroom which is a learning environment and not
another place, which incidentally is not a place to do learning activities. With the full day school
system, the learning hours system will be different. lesson hours will change to be longer than
before, which previously only 1 hour can be increased to 2 to 2.5 hours. it aims to make students
more subject matter from the teacher so that math and language skills will be better, but the
academic abilities of other students also increase with this full day school system. Some other may
argue that full day system is to be able to overcome juvenile delinquency . With the additional hours
of subjects due to the full day school system, automatically there will be more time for activities at
school so that students will only focus more on the lessons delivered by the teacher. this will make
students avoid negative activities that may be present in the environment outside their school.
students can avoid the contamination of smoking habits which have become a long-standing
problem in Indonesia besides that many students also commit crimes such as brawls, theft, liquor
and many more. this is because they are less educated about the problems mentioned earlier that
can be found in the school environment. With the full day school system, not only material related
to learning can be delivered, but also education about social norms and rules can also be delivered
better.

I rebut to what my opponent said about full day school. First, they said that the
understanding of the material would be more conveyed. but many do not think so, understanding
the material more depends on how the teacher conveys the material, if the subject matter is taught
in an inappropriate way, the result will not make students understand more, but will make students
more confused about the lessons being taught. In addition, the addition of class hours will make
students more tired than usual, this is also a big factor that affects the way students understand the
lesson because students will more easily understand what their teacher teaches when they are more
fit and feel less tired. the second is about juvenile delinquency. this is not quite right, because like
today there are many juvenile delinquencies that occur either in the school environment. even
though the delivery of the lesson is correct, many students still like to commit juvenile delinquency,
even if it is either light or heavy. because for them there is no problem doing juvenile delinquency
anywhere, for example they even smoke during school hours so it doesn't feel right to implement
this full day school if juvenile delinquency still occurs even in the school environment.

In my opinion, there are at least three reasons why full day school should be abolished. The
first is because students will be more tired than on a typical day at school. students can become
tired because students will get additional hours of lessons that should not exist, this will actually
make students get into a lot of trouble because they are tired. students can get sick more easily
because they will always be active starting at 7 am and even some schools require students to come
in from 6 am to 4 or 5 pm. Besides that, being tired can also make their understanding of the
material bigger.

the second reason is that many schools are neither infrastructure nor financially ready. This
is still a problem in most schools in Indonesia and is still difficult to overcome. many schools do not
have classes or cannot provide a more suitable learning environment so that students can study
comfortably, many schools do not have access roads that connect students with schools that are not
feasible. In addition, many schools have financial problems that are not ready, even though such a
large budget has been issued by the Indonesian government, in fact there are still many schools that
still have financial problems. This will actually make the existing problems even more with the full
day school which will be successful if students are also comfortable with their learning environment.

The third is that many parents are not financially ready. Many of the students' parents have
irregular incomes, this will be a very serious problem if the full day school system is implemented.
Many parents will object because the school's needs will automatically increase, of course the school
will also increase their fees per semester or monthly. This may not be a problem if it's a student from
a public school but what about private schools, they will definitely add semester or monthly fees
because students use school facilities longer and more. This is also a problem for schools because
schools will also incur more costs to make improvements to school facilities so that students become
more comfortable in learning.

In conclusion, many people feel that students will benefit from this full day school system.
but personally believe that this full day school system will actually bring a lot of disadvantage to the
students and parents of students and even the school. because there are still many parents,
students and schools who are still not ready for this full day school system. such as finance,
infrastructure and more effective ways of repeating so that students can better understand the
lessons taught by their teachers. students will also feel more tired and can even make them stressed
with their busier hours of activity than before.
