Friends,neighboringbusinesses,andcommunitypartnersjoinedCoastalCenterforDevelopmentalServicesin breakinggroundonitscommunitygardenonMay20,2011.LocatedbetweentheCCDSAdministra on BuildingandQuantum,theprojectsitewasaplaceofcelebra onasa endeesgotaglimpseofthegarden layoutfortherst meandvoicedtheirenthusias csupport. Thissupportcameinmanywaysthatdayandintheweeksthatfollowed. Hardeeville,SouthCarolinabasedSavannahHardscapescommi edto dona ng$10,000worthofmaterialsandresourcesforourgarden,which includeslabor,variousmaterialsandbricks.Wehavealsohadamazing supportfromLETR&Co.,TidewaterLandscapeManagementandmany others.Insupport,dozensofindividualsandbusinessesboughtthe engravableLegacyBricksthatwillformthewalkwaysandtheHammond FamilyFounda onpurchasedthearchwayatthegardensentrance. Thefocusofthecommunitygardenistogrowproducethatcanbeusedin QuantumCatering,whileprovidinganopportunityforthepeoplewe servetolearnnewskillswhiletendingthegarden.Individualandgroup volunteershavealreadycontactedCCDSaboutgivingtheir meand eortstohelpmakethecommunitygardenasuccess. SeedsthatwereplantedbythechildrenonEarthDayweresetasidein smallbedsnearbyandhavebeguntoproducemanyfruitsandvegetables.Thesizeablemainareawillbe lledinAugustandtherst330brickspurchasedwillbeplacedinposi on,withpermanentbedstofollow.
