TYPHOON PAENG KILLS 42


IN MAGUINDANAO

In Maguindanao, tropical cyclone "Paeng"


(international name: “Nalgae”) claims 42
lives. (a developing story)
 The primary cause of mortality is drowning
 Areas where fatalities are recorded: (27) DOS, (10) DBS,
and (5) Upi
 Brgy. Kusiong of DOS was the most badly hit
 Brgy. Tubuan, DBS – 4 recorded fatalities,(others are still
missing)
 These 3 Municipalities that are not prone to flooding are
those that are affected.
 However, no municipalities in Maguindanao Del Norte was
spared from the tropical cyclone, not even Cotabato City.

 As floodwaters engulfed low-lying settlements, about
10,000 residents of North Upi town were compelled to
relocate to higher land.
 Cotabato City was declared in a state of emergency due to
the flooding of 25 of its 37 villages, which affected around
67,000 people.
 Steel bridge linking Datu Blah Sinsuat and Datu Odin Sinsuat
was demolished by the Baguer River.
 Nituan Bridge located at Parang, Maguindanao Del Norte
was completely cut-off.
 It is also not advised for drivers to cross the Oring Bridge in
the Barira LGU.
