Media Information Literacy: Activity 7.

Why do others choose to bully other people? Is it for entertainment? Envy? To show-off? Or
simply for attention perhaps? We don’t know why some of them actually do this kind of thing
and what do they benefit from it. It is a very bad action and yet it became a normal thing for us
now. Bullying occurs everywhere and to anyone. May it be on school, office and even in one’s
home and now it is also happening in the internet. I have met a handful of people who are
being bullied on the internet and also the bullies. Internet gives others the power to ruin
someone else’s dignity and reputation as a person. With just a few clicks, rumors and
information will spread. They often aim at their prey’s weakest point, biggest fear and
insecurities. Some of them relives bad past and memories to tease and make fun of it or make
some up some false rumors about someone. People won’t care if it is true or not, they will
immediately judge that person without knowing the truth. This is the power that rests on each
of our hands. Pushing a person to the edge and sprinkling salt directly on their deepest wounds.
To add insult to injury, most social networks, where cyberbullying occurs the most, do very little
to somehow prevent it from happening. We cannot permanently stop it from happening but we
can definitely prevent it.
