What is Google Classroom?

Google Classroom is an application that educators and students use. It is an online classroom
where educators can assign formative and summative assessments, assignments/homework, and
course content, as well as provide grades for student work.

Strengths

Google Classroom is beneficial for the environment, as it is a paperless way to provide students
with the material and resources they need to complete their courses. This application is easy to
use and monitor and provides ample opportunity for educators to give feedback to students.
Google Classroom is also compatible with other google apps, such as Gmail, Google Docs,
Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Meet, etc.

Weaknesses

With any product that relies on technology to function, Google Classroom is non-functional if
technology fails or if users do not have access to the internet at home or school. All users must
also have a Google account to access this application. There could also be misconduct among
students when completing assessments; cheating is a risk factor for all online learning.

Application: Organizing, Managing, and Accessing Learning

Google Classroom is applicable to teachers and students. A few examples of Google Classroom
in the classroom are:

 English
o Writing Assignments: Teachers can efficiently provide students with prompts for
written assignments and have them complete and pass them in.
o Activities: Set up activities for students and organize scaffolded questions that
you must complete in sequence.
 Math
o Activities: Set up activities for students and organize scaffolded questions that
must be completed in sequence.
o Resources: Create a space for additional support and resources for students to use
based on the unit or topic.
o HomeworkHub: Additional tool in Google Classroom for students to use outside
of the classroom. Instructors can also get learners to access HomeworkHub during
work days.
