RESEARCH PLAN
I. Topic
Factors Contributing Sleep Deprivation of scholars in TUPM to their Academic performances.
II. Background
In this engaged and highly competitive generation of students where sleep is perceived as a choice and no
longer a necessity, it is a must to fully understand the vitality of sleep. Sleep is certainly an essential matter in
everyone’s life. Unfortunately, the most integral things are often neglected. Factors such as caffeine intake,
loads of works, and influence of technology are resulting to inconsistent sleeping patterns of Filipinos. It is
alarming to know that Philippines has one of the highest rates of sleep deprivation in Asia, according to Healthy
Living Index Survey (2017). The researchers aim to raise awareness about the effects of sleeping habits to the
one’s academic outcome. Knowing the cause and effect of sleep deprivation can easily understand the
connection between the academic performance of the student as well as the importance of having a right sleep.
This can be helpful to everyone, especially students to decrease the risk of developing diseases and sleep
disorders from lack of sleep, along with promoting consistent and healthy sleeping habits in pursuit of better
health.

III. Statement of the Problem


1. What are the common factors that result in sleep deprivation among TUPM students?
2. What is the direct proportion of sleep habits and cognitive ability of TUPM students?
3. How may the findings be utilized in addressing the problem in sleep deprivation of TUPM students?
4. Is there significant relationship among student’s learning habits to their sleep deprivation?

IV. Methodologies
A. Research Design
The research design was adopted in the study of descriptive design of research because it describes the data above
the population under this study. The researchers also be using Experimental survey.
B. Research Locale
The research will be conducted at Technological University of the Philippines-Manila. The research will conduct data
gathering procedure in all college department of Technological University Philippines- Manila.
C. Sample and Sampling Technique
The researchers used probability sampling under the simple random sampling method. Wherein, the only
selected number of students or participants will be the one or involved in this study. The researchers chose this method
for them to gather information about the Factors Contributing Sleep Deprivation of scholars in TUPM to their Academic
performances.
D. Instrument
The instrument that will be used in this research is tests that aims to find out Factors Contributing Sleep Deprivation of
scholars in TUPM to their Academic performances of the respondents. For the respondents to better understand the
content of the survey forms, the researchers made use of the English language as the medium of the study.
E. Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers will conduct a test for students at Technological University Philippines- Manila. The respondents were
expected to answer the test and the researcher will know the score and ask what average of sleep the student have in
everyday life. The researchers will know if the sleep deprivation can affect the academic performance of the student in
TUPM based on their answers.

V. Expected Outcomes
The researchers aim to know what are the common factors that affecting their sleeping pattern and how it can affect the
academic performance of the student. Knowing the cause and effect of sleep deprivation can help the student to know
the importance of sleeping and to assess themselves what are the things that the student does that causes sleep
deprivation. Through the help of this research the students will have some insight about the possible impact of sleep
deprivation in their academic performance. At the end of this study, the students will be aware of the substantial impact
to their academic performances including the importance of sleep itself.
